The Sports Desk / Re: Smith's Crew in SA
Game over nearly but marred by some real poor sportsmanship from Nathan Lyon IMO......dropping the ball on or near AB DEVilliers after he was sprawled on the ground after being run out was disgraceful IMO. I would have paid Lyon a visit at the ends of days play and given him the ball back...in his gob...he should be suspended for a game IMO..

Couldn't agree more.

Gives all Australians a bad name and isn't even close to playing in the spirit of cricket.
A bit of Lip is one thing but that ball drop was beyond ordinary.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2018 - What do you expect from the club?
I thought that 2018 showed, in general, a poor general standard of footy and the top teams all had major flaws. There was no complete, stand out side.   By this quirk the tigers were able to "pinch" a flag.  Seriously, would they have gotten with 10 goals of the Hawks or the Cats in their premiership years?

Agree the talent pool has been stretched across 18 teams now and the talent doesn't quite cut it.

Hence why all our draftee's got games last season. No real depth.

Less talented players will get drafted and play games they would not have in the past.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 20 Green Shoot of the Week
While I would prefer to see more consistency from Jarrod Pickett, this was the first time that I thought that he looked like he belonged out there and had the confidence and ability to take the game on.  His chase and tackle that won him a free is my green shoot.

Oh, and I loved Samo letting McDonald-Tipungwuti know that he'd been run down ????

X 2

And Samo's composure in the middle of the last to hit up the leading Silvagni was special as well. Pity SOJ couldn't nail the goal !!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 14: Post Game Palliative care: Carlton vs Richmond
Jack's issue is as a forward he doesn't have the speed to break away from the defender on the lead.
Therefore he is under pressure every time the ball is kicked to him.

Graham and Pickett both took short steps.
Really disappointed in Graham's effort as a player who is playing for his future you would think would have the run through a brick wall mindset.

Richmond rely heavily on Rance. They run and spread aswell as anyone on the break because they back Rance to win his contest.
We continually fell down at Centre half forward and that kick into half forward all day. No real options and poor disposal.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 12: Post Game Passion: Carlton vs GWS
Went to the game and only watched the replay last night.

Still think the umpiring against us was crape - they very nearly got GWS over the line in the last 5 mins!

I thought at The game that Gibbs spectated a bit but actually he was very good.

Fisher and Jed look similar on the run!

Marchbank made errors but god he's a good player - he made a lot of plays and altho two bad kicks I see such good signs there.

Thought Plow was great.

And thought at the game Sumner did not much but again on tv you can see how at times he was fully in the game.

Go Blues - I just love the intensity we're seeing! Looking back to days under Mm gosh they were bad days viewing live, depressing really! But not this  ^-^

I actually thought the same thing re Gibbs

In one passage Gibbs turns the ball over with a poor kick into our forward 50. The ball was quickly rebounded out the other side of the ground and Gibbs just casually walks across from where he kicked it.
Very pedestrian for someone who just turned it over !!
Then he calls for the short 15 metre pass back on the 45 and was ignored so he gave the player who ignored him a mouthful.
I love Bryce but this who piece of play was ordinary !!

Now a positive !! Charlie Curnow could be something else. The tap back into the middle of the ground to our runners from a big contested mark contest was special.

A couple of very small things out of a large game...but

1:  Jack Silvagni wrestling out of a decent Ziebell tackle with just sheer lower body strength, throwing him to the ground & running away......never mind the scrubby left foot kick into the forward line after that......I loved that bit of play.

2. In the last, Tom Williamson latching onto a contested mark on the edge of the square with 1 hand, completely wrong footing his opponent & running to just outside 50 to launch a shot for goal......never mind that it missed by a whisker.......I loved that as well.

cheers

Both these were certainly ' Wow ' moments in the game.
However the fact SOJ ran straight into him to start with no lateral movement was concerning.

That Williamson one hand gather and turn was extra special.  Only a very small percentage of elite players in the game can do such breath taking acts.
