Follow the leader: Former Blue promoted to co-captain Pies
https://womens.afl/news/53245

So Collingwood has 2 captains for 2021.
- One of them is/was a Carlton girl who used to frequent these very forums prior to the AFLW.
- The other was a former captain of our AFLW when we made the grand final.

This makes me angry.

I'm not angry, but I am disappointed. With Stef, fair enough; Collingwood drafted her and we didn't. Davey: I am very disappointed in her and what she did. She'll miss out as we head towards the finals.

Not a bad draw, it's now up to the girls to get it done, set the record straight!

No conferences in 2021, just 1 ladder.
Finals will be 3 weeks, with 6 teams.

First week
Teams 1+2 bye
3 vs 6
4 vs 5

2nd week
2 vs highest ranked winner
1 vs lowest ranked winner

3rd week
Grand final

Not a bad draw???

Thats pretty tough.

The 2 teams who finished last in their conference....we don't play.
From the other 7 teams who made finals last year, we play all but 2 (Brisbane and GWS)
....and that doesn't include Adelaide and the dominant Erin Phillips who finished 6th.
Title: Re: AFLW 2021 season
Post by: LP on December 12, 2020, 08:13:51 pm
We topped our conference, it could be a lot worse.

My only gripe is why we keep playing the Crows in Adelaide.

If we play as well as we did last season, it won’t really matter who we play or where we play.

I think that we’ll miss Chloe Dalton but our list depth and strength has improved, and more than other clubs.

Bring it on and go Blues!

I agree. The teams we miss are 4 guaranteed wins. As for playing the Cows in Adelaide ...

That's a bit arrogant.

AFLW is much more dynamic than AFL, and injuries or trades to just one key player has far more influence than AFL, and it's not always the marquee player, you cannot assume teams won't drastically improve or drastically deteriorate in one pre-season.

No we didn't.
We finished 3rd in our conference. Won week 1 and week 2, so we were top 4 at best.

Pot Kettle.

Crash is right, which was my point. The easybeat teams are the ones we don't play.

I'm still confident we will make and play finals. But that draw could cost us a 1st round bye.

Hmm, except I never wrote it, and I never said it either.

I made a pretty simple points, written above, not a spoken word, breathless whisper, telepathy or telekinesis, but somewhat summarised simply that it's wrong to assume last season's weak teams will be next season's weak teams, and that no win is guaranteed.

If anyone thinks a win is guaranteed that is clearly an arrogance, it's tortoise and hare territory!

This we can debate, because it's actually written here in the thread!

Sorry we finished 2nd in Conference B in 2020, on 20 pts behind Freo on 24 pts at the cancellation, in 2019 we topped Conference B on 16pts.

Sarah Black (Miss AFLW!) was asked to pick her 3 favourites for the flag.

North
Freo
Carlton

When pushed for her favourite - Carlton!

(FWIW, she is a Tigers fan).

Big year for the ladies.....make it happen!

I think that site started off as a piss take, they originally started off taking the piss out of certain seasonal feminists who rallied against men one week and got their tits out for Page 3 the next! Sort of highlighting the hypocrisy of some associated with #MeTooToo!

I fear it's somewhat morphed into the LCD in recent times.

PS; It's amazing how different demographics have picked up on the "Be Seeing You" motif, perhaps many not knowing where it come from, if they do then I'm not sure what to make of it. It went through our company network like wildfire earlier this year, unfortunately part of my day job is being the Fun Police and making sure stuff like that gets appropriately filtered, needless to say some do not appreciate my efforts despite them still having or retaining a job!

I think you are correct, it's been misappropriated by all sorts of people in recent months, but it may be very likely that Vescio doesn't get it from the originators. It's common on TIk Tok as a sign off for example.

From the other thread...
Quote
Carl win against GC (30pts) 60 & GWS (15pts) = 20 points @ 119%
NM lose against Bris (20) 15 & Freo (20) = 20 points @ 127%
WB lose against Ade (10) currently 40 but beat Tigers (15) = 20 points @ 102%
Mel lose against Freo (10) & Bris (10) = 20 points @ 119%

Its all going to plan....

Melbourne are looking to end our season right now, being up against freo by 4 goals just before half time.

We really need them to lose....even if by 1 point. % isn't a factor as we have them covered already.

Alternatively, we need Freo to smash NM next week and us smash GWS....well when i say smash....a 4 goal victory each way is enough.

Freo now 18 points down, but 3/4 time is close. makes the finals look a long way away.
If freo kicked against us like they are doing today, we  would have won in a canter!

5 point win to Melbourne means they are in the final 6.
Dogs lost their chance and cannot make it.

It all comes down to us and NM. Currently they have 1 game and % on us, but are playing a harder opponent, and the % can be overcome.

That loss to North could is the reason we are only a chance to make finals, and not locked into finals.

Of course we cannot forget that we had.....
4 points loss to freo
6 point loss to dogs
6 point loss to pies.

Its a tight year.

Seriously,  we have no idea what is permissible when tackling these days,  the inconsistency is bewildering.

I'd expect Moody to be the AA Ruck, she is a mile ahead of the others in terms of her influence across the whole playing surface.

Moody might not be the best contested mark of the rucks but she is right up there in the top 3, certainly top 2 or 3 for tap work, and probably a clear 1st in ground level and continuing play stuff. She might not be the best running kick of the football, but there are hardly any AFLW rucks that are kicking in the chain of play, most are quite static.

I think we were shafted last year when they cancelled the season as it would've either....
a) Given us a flag
b) Given us plenty of hurt and thus motivation to get one this year.

I hope Half shows our girls Lauren Arnells interview and celebrations and asks them what they are playing for. If its that same feeling, pull your finger out.

I thought the Women's game evolved quite markedly from last season. I thought our game style in 2019 was great it reminded me on 1980's type football. This year the good teams held onto the ball and were able to chip it around. I don't think our game style evolved enough to compete. We were within a goal in three matches and if we had held on against Freo we would have made the finals. I thought our lack of foot speed shown up, especially in our forward half where the ball came out to quickly in some of the early games, along with kicking skills. We need to improve our skills and upgrade the game plan and be able to shut down our opponents a bit more effectively than we did this season. I would like to see a season where everyone plays everybody else at least once and I would like to see all AFL Clubs with an AFLW team.

Al Downie to the pies.

Katie is a teacher, so she will have to move on from her current school and hope of finding another one up at GWS. If i was them i'd find a school for her and ensure she gets well paid compared to what she was getting as a teacher here. Reckon she's been promised a coaching roll beyond her playing.

I saw that and while initially i was disappointed for Chloe, and i still am, i can;t help but think there is a bit of karma in that too.

She burned us last season to go to the olympics....it was postponed....then she burned us by wanting to be traded to GWS for the olympics.....and now she can't go.
If only she'd stayed and focused on AFLW as a priority, we'd both be in better shape.

As for GWS....a case of buyer beware there. A bit like the Dees with Harris.
Beware of the players whose 2nd sport is AFLW.

It would be nice if the club website kept the AFLW team up to date; Loynes, Harris, Hosking and Downie are still featured.

Yep.

As is Dalton, Edwards....

I'm not sure how much of that is on the club, and how much of that is on the AFL. The AFL used to take control over a lot of the structured content on club sites, not sure if its still the case.

I think you're right; the AFL has been managing the structured content for a while now and, since then, we've had AFL players in their previous club's colours and delays in updating AFL and AFLW lists/photographs.  Still, the club could be giving them a prod.

I agree.

Personally i'd like to give the clubs control over their own sites again in a similar fashion to the AFL giving the home team control of the home ground entertainment.

Everything has become very sterile in club land. You can't tell the clubs apart, only the colours allow that.

Allow the clubs to have some 'personality' or dare i say it, culture!
