VFL Rd 10 2022 Carlton vs Northern Bullants

This game is on Sunday at 1305 at Preston City Oval.
We haven't been great lately, but we haven't had anything like a full list to select from. Even missing VFL stalwarts like Hayes. The last 2 weeks we just lacked that extra bit of maturity that could have got us over the line.
Another big out this week is Mirkov, who will probably be right after the Bye, but won't be dominating the ruck this week.
Last year, when we have similar height problems in our VFL team, the Bullants beat us. It was one of the more humiliating losses of the year, but we had very few players available. We will have a couple more this time, but not many.

One of our problems of late is that we haven't been hitting targets under pressure, especially our handballs. We really need to work on that: if we could hit the target last week, we would have won. As it was, we gifted them turnovers that killed us.

NB getting the better of us at the moment, mind you our guys are being destroyed by some of the decisions.

Crocker isn't AFL material, people need to give up on him, his deficits clearly on display. In one chain of play he took the footy 5m or 10m goal side of his opponents on the 50m arc and failed to get a shot away in a vacant F50. Just hasn't got the pace to maintain an advantage of space despite being smart enough to get there early.

Martin, Kemp, Boyd, Williamson, Philps, Honey, disposal quality / efficiency is horrendous for a bunch of AFL players playing VFL.

Kemp being smashed by NBs KPFs, he just not a defender, they have to give up on this or waste the blokes career.

JGM has heart but he's not a viable option either, just not mobile enough, very similar scenario to Crocker.

btw., Honey back on now, but hobbled off at one stage.

Cripps Jnr potentially looks OK, but needs a couple of more AFL pre-seasons.

Some of the names mentioned are still young and need more time before anyone closes the book. Many of the players in the team today where blokes with big queries on.

Didn’t you say last week buddy should retire after our game as he is embarrassing himself. Even the very best can’t and don’t perform every week let alone players just learning their craft.

No, I said he was cooked and should retire at the end of this season before he hits the slippery slope and starts to embarrass himself, he should leave them wanting more. I also said he'll still have some good games. Yet he still made a goose of himself throwing an elbow at Cotchin.

btw., The SCG is probably the one venue that best suits him, doesn't have far to run, ball exits the square and enters deep F50 very quickly, the very same reason the unfit Plugger dominated there!

Good that we won with so few AFL players available.
[1] The VFL boys stood up today.
Crocker had 23 disposals, 3 goals 4 as a key forward. He may not be AFL ready, because he does lack pace, but he is no slouch and we're better for having him.
Joel Trudgeon lacks pace too, but he had 27 possessions and 8 tackles.
David Handley, who is not looking as fit this year as he did last year, had 18 possessions and 5 tackles.

[2] The Carlton listed players were OK, but not special:
Setters had 23 disposals, 8 tackles and 8 clearances. That's pretty good.
Tom Williamson had 22 possessions and 6 tackles.
Sam Philp had 18 possessions and 4 clearances.
Jack martin had only 16 possessions, but 8 clearances.

[3] I'd like to see Brodie Kemp moved into the midfield, to see what he has. He has disappointed this year both as a defender and as a forward. he was a mid at U18 level.

[4] Boyd had an ordinary game. He won't be promoted next round.

[5] We had no Hayes and no Dow, yet we did well in the clearances and kicked 5 of the last 6 goals. But our total lack of height is very apparent.

[6] I would not be drafting Zavier Maher on 1st June. He does some really nice things, but he doesn't do enough.

Mighty Mighty come back

Joel Trudgeon is the best teenager in our VFL squad by a country mile atm. He is not fast but a natural inside midfielder.
