What is the screen size? Is it full size, or reduced to 7 inch as the AFL one is.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Who of today’s 22 is playing their last game for the club.
Couple of points of difference.

Jack Gunston is lightning fast relative to SoJ!

Gunston was already a gun midfielder at lower levels before he had a growth spurt and became a tall mobile marking forward! I think the last year or so before Gunston was drafted he grew 8 inches!

Agree he is quicker, but you don't have to be lightning fast. Remember Greg Williams? too slow, couldn't get at game at Carlton.
Jack has the nous he can read the play, put him in a team with a winning culture and he would then have the confidence and the chance to show his ability.

Wont be SOS's decision. The Club will make that decision independent of SOS.

The grandfather and the father were champions, one, if not all the grandsons maybe as well.
Jack has been moved around each game because the team is rubbish. He needs time to settle in a position. This year he is surrounded by inexperienced and many players who should not be playing.
Just had a look at his stats compared with Jack Gunston at the same age (2012) on Footywire, he's not far off what Gunston was getting and Gunston was playing in a side that finished second on the ladder and he was surrounded by champions of the game. Gunston never had to play in a team that was getting thrashed each week plus having the expectations of supporters weighing heavily on his shoulders.
I'm not saying he will be as good as Gunston, just comparing.
Give him a better side to play in and give him time.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Another School Shooting in the US
Interested to read recently about the US constitution which is very strong on protecting the people from oppression and tyranny, including that which could arise from the government. The scarring experiences suffered during the George III regime shaped such a distrust of government that the right to bear arms for citizen protection became paramount. Today of course this seems rather pointless in view of the weaponry the government could theoretically  deploy against the populace but it is not going to be given up easily. I can't see things changing any time soon.

The only reason of the right to bear arms, was because the young US was broke, and couldn't afford a standing army. The minute men were successful in the War of Independence so they relied on armed citizens. It should have been repealed once the US could afford an army.

Ladies Lounge / Re: AFLW Rd 2: - Carlton vs GWS @ Drummoyne oval
Three shots hit the post that I can remember. Early behinds were all long shots (30+ meters) with a wet ball, one was rushed. Other 'easy' shots were missed after the long break. Should have won by another three or four goals, such was the Blues' dominance.
Vescio 1.3, Stevens 1.1, Loynes 1.0, Brazelle 0.3, Harris 0.2, Gee 0.1, Hosking 0.1, rushed 1

Pominoz

I'm blueycarlton just an occasional poster on this and other forums.
Both my parents and their parents were Carlton supporters, so the family's allegiance goes back into the 19th century. My dad first took me to Princes Park in the late 1950's. He grew up not far from the ground and I've been told he knew a few people at the club back then. So my children did not have any choice when it comes to Carlton. When I was 11 or 12 I used to get bouts of tonsillitis and be off school for a week or so and our doctor on a home visit brought a copy of The Carlton Story pub. 1958 to read. I was amazed at the history of the club.
So many, many years later when I stumbled onto the newly created Blueseum,  I was in blue heaven, and as no-one was doing the Pre VFL section I jumped in.

So now I'm heavily involved with the Carlton history web-site, Blueseum (www.blueseum.org)
Blueseum has a bio page on every Carlton player from 1864 onwards, more than 2100 players, plus Reserve and Under 19 grade players. The site currently has over 40,000 images including many team photos dating from 1868 onwards. Pre VFL Image pages, and year by year Image Galleries from 1897. Year by year details with most match details 1864-1896 and then round by round pages for each year from 1897 onwards. Stories about Princes Park, articles, memorabilia, membership tickets, etc. etc.

It's a real treasure trove of all things Carlton.

To all you Carlton barrackers out there, volunteers are most welcome to contribute to Blueseum.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Hey everyone
Pominoz
Our crowds are much different to soccer crowds, less singing because there is always action on the arena, and around 50% are women.
In the old days 1960's, 70's, 80's I stood on the outer terraces at most of the old Melbourne grounds and never was involved in a fight. There has never been segregation of the fans as in soccer. Even though in those days people bought in their own copious amounts of alcohol, the banter between the fans was great. There was an occasional scuffle.

I think it is the nature of a game which is high scoring, something is always happening on the ground, a mistake by the umpire does not necessarily alter the games result unless it is in the dying seconds of a match. After the game barrackers of both sides still mingle in the pubs or walking to the tram and railway station.

Welcome to a great football tradition that has been going on in this city of Melbourne since 1858, and the Carlton club since 1864. By the way, the world's oldest professional club that has played every season since.

I remember going to Arsenal in London in the early 70's and it was like a war zone from the railway station to the ground. Every shop and house window was boarded up, cops everywhere, you would have to walk in file on the footpath and would be arrested if you stepped off onto the road!
It was not a very pleasant experience.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Blockbusters 2015
Carlton have lost a generation of supporters since 1995.
The club has done nothing about it.
My brother was a long time Carlton AFL member and stopped buying a membership a few years ago and has never heard from the club.
The only way to get them back is to start winning games. Win the first 4 or 5 this season would be a nice start, membership and crowd numbers would climb.
Only winning, and not a 0-4 start, will bring back the crowds.
I can't remember when we last won the first 5 games to a season.
