I used to feel the same way about Hewitt many years ago but he has gained much respect over the years through battling on in an era of tennis greats.

Hewitt is still a tool in my eyes.  I can never applaud anyone who fist pumps and yells come on after an opponents unforced error.

Hewitt battling on in an era of Tennis Greats??

Thats mind boggling Gozza.  Federer is a great, Nadal might be considered a great but has a fair way to go, and same with Djokovic who is also on his way to being a great, but Hewitt has played in one of the softest period of all around stars.  Marat Safin was one of the stronger guys on tour when Hewitt was at his best, and he is a solid Scott Camporeale at best, whilst the others are in the Jezza category.  Worlds apart.

I've never liked Hewitt. I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he was young, thinking he'd grow out of it. He never has. The remark he made to the chair umpire at the US Open years ago about the black linesman was the final straw for me. Tool.

Tomic, he's also a tool imo and it has nothing to do with race. He has a real air of entitlement about him which I don't like. His on court demeanour also leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe it's just the way he is, laconic, but he doesn't always appear to put everything into a match, especially when the chips are down. He is young though so let's see if he can grow up which Hewitt never did.

Because he's an arrogant tool. What's he done exactly to warrant such arrogance? Fark all. Contrast with Ash Barty who has been well grounded and down to earth the whole time. Tomic's a bad sport. Sportsmanship goes a long way in this caper....even the great Pat Rafter had had a run in with him....sh1tty attitude caused him to be dropped from the Davis cup last year.

I've never been a fan of Nadal but credit where its due...has the runs on the board to earn respect from the community and I hope he smashes Spoilt brat in straight sets.

And don't come that racist crap with me....has nothing to do with it. I used to feel the same way about Hewitt many years ago but he has gained much respect over the years through battling on in an era of tennis greats. The racist card is a cheap way out and if that's at the forefront of anyone's mind when critisizing a sportsman then they need their head read.

Pietersen is an arrogant blowhard who plays for himself !!

Cook has always been susceptible outside off stump due to a technique flaw.

Bell is a good player.

Trott is a decent player but he crumbled under the pressure, first time it has been fully applied.

Peiterson is arrogant but that's not the point. A dud doesn't average in the high 40's at test match level.

The reason Trott left had nothing to do with what happened in the first test. He shouldn't have been playing in the first place.

Dont expect Johnson to provide the same terror as the Saffies are fed a diet of pace bowling and its going to get down to the 1%ers like who catches better in the field and if our tailenders can keep making runs to prop up the top order.

Johnson gave the Poms the heebie-jeebies so much they were shell-shocked into thinking every ball he bowled was a hand-grenade.

There is no way known that the Yarpies will fall for that trick and they will more than likely attack anything short or wide as their top order batsman are way more accomplished and talented.

This series is a defining one for our players with the bat, a number of them have suspect techniques and/or temperaments and they will be exposed under the bowling pressure from Steyn, Morkel & co.

Not expecting to win this series at all, in fact I'm prepared to rejoice at a drawn one actually.

Before the Ashes Cook, Bell, Trott and Pieterson were all very accomplished and talented.

I'd like to see Faulkner replace Bailey at 6. I like Bailey but not at Test level, great in the limited over game.
Watson still doesn't impress me and would prefer Doolan or Marsh at 3. I'd also take Bird.

I think Pratty has it fairly right as there is not much chance for others to push for a spot before tour. Names coming through but not quite ready yet, Silk, Head, Burns, Lynn, Maddison, Behrendorff, Sayers & Zampa.

I think Siddle may struggle with Bird, Pattinson, Starc & Cummins all back soon (or now) as well.

Is a fit Cummins good enough to force Siddle out of the team. My understanding is he's a pretty special player but body falls to bits.

Cummins won't be playing any long form cricket for at least another 12 months apparently, so no chance.

Now that we have smashed the Poms 5-0 with the same XI no less, who are the blokes you take to South Africa for the three test match series? I'm not sure how many we'll take, probably 15 or 16, so who are your men to get the job done?

At this stage I'd go with:
1. C.Rogers
2. D.Warner
3. S.Watson
4. M.Clarke (c)
5. S.Smith
6. G.Bailey
7. B.Haddin (vc/wk)
8. M.Johnson
9. R.Harris
10. P.Siddle
11. N.Lyon

12. J.Faulkner
13. J.Pattinson
14. N.Coulter-Nile
15. Fawad Ahmed
16. A.Doolan

No way to Bailey. Watson to six, not sure who I would have at three. Don't mind the rest of your squad.

The Sports Desk / NRL Player Sentenced to Two Years Jail.
I hope this sends a message to not just sports stars, but society in general.

Quote
Newcastle Knights rugby league player Russell Packer was sentenced to two years in jail on Monday after a Sydney court heard that he stomped on his victim after a fight in Martin Place.

Magistrate Greg Grogan said the 24-year-old's behaviour was cowardly and deplorable.

The Sports Desk / Re: Third Ashes Test (WACA) - The Decider ??
Often our bats have often done well in one innings of the two. Means although they might only average 35 for the series they're making a score in one of the two innings. For example one might make 60 & 10 another 10 & 60 meaning with Rogers, Haddin, Warner consistently going well a half century contribution by another means a good total.

Watson's made 68, 176, 51, 103 and 83no in 5 of his last 6 Tests but made not much in the other innings.

Maybe but it hasn't served us very well up until this current series. I see Doolan has been called up for the Sydney test. If he gets a start let's hope he performs well and puts some pressure on the likes of Bailey and Smith.

Re Watson, his 176 in England was made when the series result was over and his 103 in Perth was made with no pressure. I'll give him credit for yesterday's innings, but more times than not he goes missing when the pressure is on, not what you want from a number 3. I do think he'd go better at 6 though.

Don't get me wrong because I love seeing us win test matches especially against the Poms, but I've a few questions for Boof.

What about Patrick Cummins?

What about Jackson Bird?

What about James Faulkner?

What about James Pattinson?

What about Ashton Agar?

What about Fawad  Ahmed?

Throw in Starc as well. Our bowling depth is probably the best in the world so no issues there if they can stay injury-free.

Our batting is still a worry and I'm expecting us to be found out in SA. Watson may have batted well yesterday but he's too inconsistent at number 3 for mine. I'd love to see him batting at six when there's not as much pressure. Can't have Watson at 3, Smith at 5 and Bailey at 6 if we want to challenge for top spot. Can't keep expect Haddin to recsue us. Problem is who do we bring in?
