Title: Rd 9 Blues v Crows (Sunday Twilight)
Post by: BluePhantom on May 20, 2014, 10:29:37 am
Not looking forward to this game , especially at the G. Interstate team, not many people.
All depends on which Carlton Team decides to rock up.

Filth beat us, Cows beat the Filth...We beat the Cows. Isn't that how it works? :)

Hopefully Tex has the second game Blues ;D

Yeah, don't reckon we are a chance at all.

Even before they they beat Collingwood.

I'll be curious to see how Daisy goes. He's been in full training for a LONG TIME now, must start delivering something soon.

If we play with the passion that Melbourne did, for four quarters like Melbourne did, we can win.

The Crows Walker was rusty early but moved well later in the game and got a bit of footy.....reckon he might be ready to impact this week.
Being at the MCG gives us some hope but reckon the Crows wil start favourites....no Curnow will also mean Dangerman might be off the leash too...

Army has been used on Dangerfield with success & in pre-season Yarran did quite well until he got injured.

Tex was looking very dangerous against us last time at the G IIRC, up until when he got injured.

Yep Jamo cant handle him and probably the only other alternatives are Rowe and Henderson....would expect Rowe to get Jenkins.
Sloane, Thompson, Dangerman and Douglas is who we need to contain  and deny Walker and their other forwards the supply.

A Blues game on fta tv for us here in SA.  ;D

Thats a bonus - assuming we turn up to play!

We are not fantastic after the bye either...

Great chance for Rowe to live up to his rep and play on Jenkins.

@EB1
That would be my approach EB but that's a tall order in itself. We'll need to be at our best that's for sure. I won't know much about it for a while as I will be in a fairly remote area of the country by then for a while, if my trip is going to plan.

Talk to you guys when I get back - hopefully some good things will have happened to read and talk about.

More than a little worried given how good they looked last Thursday. Big build up, finals type atmosphere, season defining game... hopefully they are a bit off.

We are in the same boat as them, this game is just as massive for us.

If Walker plays up the ground like he did last week I'd play White on him. (if he doesn't cop a club imposed suspension for the fight he was involved in).

Jamison on Pods and Rowe on Jenkins. Malthouse said Buckley would go to Betts if he played in the NAB challenge match, but he didn't. I'd expect to see that matchup.

Dangerfield - Armfield, Kerridge - Murphy, Thompson - McLean, Douglas - Gibbs, Sloane - Carrazzo, MacKay - Simpson

Who takes Betts? Stick Yaz on him perhaps? Could beat him and run it out of defense. Only trouble is that it's probably too deep defensively for him to get decent run.

I think Betts is too much overhead for SOJ to deal with, pace and agility wise they are a good match, but I think Tuohy or 1AW might get the job and try to hurt the Crows going the other way. Adelaide would not want Betts trying to defend against Tuohy or 1AW within range of Carlton's goal.

I think Docherty might actually have played on Betts once before, but I am not sure it may have been in a pre-season match.

Touhy couldnt guard an elephant if it was trapped in a phone box....a very loose defender is Zac....agree on SOJ though...Eddie would be too smart in the air for him and I think the Yarran matchup could work with Yazz running off Eddie ....

I don't fully agree about Tuohy, primarily because he is quite physical and Betts hasn't done well against physical opponents in the past.

Betts' best attribute was always his ability to read the flight better than other back pockets. I would go with Walker as his height and size over Betts would drown that out plus he wouldn't out do Walker in any athletic capacity either. Old Eddie was always a bit of a plodder. Not to mention the advantage of running off him.

If Waite and Carrots actually play this time we would have to be a chance, and would be great for the team morale.

I thought he meant Eddie Maguire or maybe Eddie Hemmings!!

Couldn't be Eddie Betts, he patented running down opposition backman trying to get away.

Yes I know what you mean just not sure if there is a better match up.

Re the plodder comment, I probably went a little too far but I never really thought of Eddie as that quick more agile and elusive with burst speed.

Josh Jenkins will be on display, interested to see how he goes against us.

Last year I think we should have set up a deal to re-signed Betts and then traded him to Adelaide for Jenkins, assuming that is possible, it may have been a cheap way to get hold of a significant KPF prospect.

I dont think this would be workable LP.

Largely because there is no interest for Adelaide to do it.

They could simply pay Eddie more money to go as a free agent, and keep their asset, or say that Betts decided to sign and force this to occur, Adelaide would offer us pick number 99 or a player they were about to delist and then we end up accepting compensation we wouldnt use ALA Jordan Russell.

when it all comes down to it, I dont think we will get a key position player out of a deal like this anyway as its simply in no one's best interests to do it.

I think it depends what you call a KPF.

If you are talking about a Tex or Tippett then I agree, but a bloke like Jenkins is 25 been at a couple of clubs treated primarily as a back-up ruck option despite being a forward for most of his career. EFC invested in Daniher so Jenkins got chopped, Adelaide used him as a backup for Tex, Tippett and Jacobs. If not for Tex's injury he might not be getting a game, yet he would be more than a valuable tall forward option for us in light of Waite's unreliability, and he kicks bags of 3 or 4 going at nearly 60% accuracy for 1.5 goals a game! That is a Maclure type and that is what we need.

I dont disagree he would be a boon for our forward line.

What I think wouldnt work is that trade deal.

It's why guys like Armfield, Robbo and Bell are important players even if not the most highly skilled as they have ticker and won't take a backward step.....

Crows wont trade Jenkins and why would he want to leave after cementing a place in a team that at this stage has more chance of going places.
Reckon Ty Vickery will be on the market and he would be cheaper and may have something to prove in a Earl Spalding type of way.....

He'll play wearing a glove.

And given how Gibba & Bell played when they wore gloves, that's better than him not playing. As it's like being 1 man down.

Yes probably. I would just like to know who, what and how our team lineup is put together, we have blokes all over shop and its been like this forever. Is it so hard to just name players in their correct positions, I mean its a non issue in the grand scheme of things but with how "well" we run everything else fair dinkum.

I also expect a late change, wouldn't mind Johnson getting a game and throwing the Crows a curve ball.

Think I'm going tomorrow, will be my first game for the year but I want to cheer Scotto off as a thankyou for his years of service. Will take my 3 year old for the first time so that should be interesting. :))

Mate I am taking both my kids.    Lucky they are both older.  9 and 10, so it should be easy

Are you an AFL member?  Would be good to catch up at the game

Only one change:

Waite IN

Robbo OUT

Carrots, Cachia and Johnson are emergencies, which, based on previous experience, one will be a late inclusion!!!

Cachia I reckon will be an in.......the Crows are strong in the midfield and I think we will go the extra tagger.

Reckon you might be right. Both Carrotts and Johnson played yesterday... Cachia was roaming around with Waite watching the game.

At the expense of whom?

Garlett?

The Frankston line is being fixed up today making it too hard to get there tonight.

According to what Metro are saying it will add an extra 1.5 hours to the trip.

Heard early during the week that Yarran didn't train.

Anyone know anymore - didnt hear if he trained during the later sessions.

Worried he might be the one cachia might come in for.

Hope not
