Title: Jim Park Voting Rd #3 Carlton vs. Essendon
Post by: crashlander on April 18, 2015, 08:09:15 pm
We may have failed to defeat the Drug Cheats this week, but today's game was a considerable improvement over the 1st 2 rounds. There is still a lot of improvement before we actually become a good team, but that is another issue.

It is time again to reward some lucky players for their hard work. There should be a considerably larger spread of votes as well.
Remember:
[1] At least 3 players need to get a mention.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player.
[3] Give a rating of team performance. It can be anywhere from A+ to F and will probably be nearer the latter.
[4] Votes must add up to 15.

I am almost certain the default rating will not be an "F" this time around.

Maybe I was wrong about that. Over 12 hours and not a single bite.
Well, I guess it is my responsibility to start.  >:D >:D

Team:    C
This was a considerable improvement compared to recent weeks. We were ordinary in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but our excellent work in the middle and with the contested ball really showed out.
Now we need the skills to find targets and the game plans to get it to them.

Votes:
[2]   Murphy
[2]   Everitt
[2]   Walker
[2]   Simpson
[2]   Cripps
[1.5]   Wood
[1]   Judd
[1]   Carrazzo
[0.5]   Docherty
[0.5]   Byrne
[0.5]   Armfield

Explanations:
[2]   Murphy   Murphy started slowly and was clearly beaten early, but his last half was the best football he has played for quite a while. I am still not sure he is 100% fit, but the run he showed after half time give me hope that he may be coming through things at last.
[2]   Everitt   A good effort on the day and a couple of crucial goals. Following on from last week as he did was a positive.
[2]   Walker   Andrew looked rusty at times, but he really worked hard and got a lot of the ball. he will be better for the outing.
[2]   Simpson   A solid game from Simmo.
[2]   Cripps   The future of our club was on display. Cripps got a fair bit of the ball with more than 75% of the his possessions being contested. He fluffed 2 shots at goal, but he will improve in this area.
[1.5]   Wood   An excellent effort from Wood in the ruck, especially considering he was so well beaten the previous week. I was surprised to see that he lost the tap outs. he also managed 8 clearances.
[1]   Judd   Not his biggest game, but his work in the middle was magical. He had instrumental in a vast number of clearances and helped kill Essendon at the contested ball.
[1]   Carrazzo   Got a lot of the ball and a lot of clearances. While he could not keep his opponent down in the uncontested ball, Carrots got the contested pill.
[0.5]   Docherty   Not as good as he has been, but he was solid and kept his man under control.
[0.5]   Byrne   9 possessions in his first quarter of football deserves a mention and no clangers. His pace and aggression from defence was excellent.
[0.5]   Armfield   Very solid across half forward. His pace and run was good.

Honourable Mentions:
Rowe   Not back to his best, but he was much improved. heading in the right direction.
Jamison   Simply could not stop some of the passes, but worked quite well. Not getting a heap of the ball, but much improved on recent efforts
Casboult   Not bad in the ruck and did OK at CHF in the 1st and last quarters. Need to be more consistent.
Tuohy   Solid effort
Gibbs   A fair bit of the ball, but he spent considerable time on Watson. Watson did not respect, and Gibbs came into the game somewhat. But 4 clangers hurt.

Other Comments:
[1]   Umpiring:   This has been quite reasonable this season, but there was a number of decisions that really were ordinary and most went against us. These were crucial and hurt us on the scoreboard.
[2]   Yarran:   Chapman much have said something. Yazz does not lose it.
[3]   Curnow:   Started well enough, but is really struggling at the moment. He needs form badly.
[4]   Our game style:   Terrible. Ineffective. Needs work.
[5]   Dean Laidley:   Earnt his money. Our centre square work in particular was excellent and totally outpointed a team with finals pretentions.

Big improvement this week, and if we had kicked straighter would have been in with a real chance rather than the catch up style which is very taxing.

I will leave this thread open until tomorrow, but I don't expect many more to express their opinions. Losing does that.
