Looks good but I just wish they waited until we had a bit of success before it went to air.
Too much feel good, back slapping while the hard work is still being done might allow a few to take the foot off the pedal.
Go Blues, work harder... please!

Looks really good.

The digital manager (Luca Gonano) they've got at the club seems like a gun to me. I believe he's the one behind this video.

Right throughout the preseason the videos / photos have been first rate... quantity and quality. Loved the behind the scenes stuff. Heaps of news articles also. Generated a lot of positive press which has got to help membership sales.

We also do really well on Facebook / Twitter followers. I think only Collingwood do better. Shame they can't find a way to translate a few more of these followers into paying members.

That's easy; win a few games  :)

The coverage of the pre-season has been excellent and I think that it is part of a deliberate strategy to connect better with supporters.  "The Journey" should continue that process and, if other supporters/members are anything like me, they will be desperate to get a glimpse of the thinking that's driving our resurgence.

Anyone who doesn't think our Club is in great hands needs to watch.
Bolts teaches what he believes.
The players are absolutely eating up his teachings for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
You can see they believe what he's teaching them.
We re going to have some great times in a few years.
Seems we ve finally got our crap together.

I don't have Foxtel, the Pr..ks have taken too much away from Free To Air (see Formula 1) trying to get me to pay for it, I have no intention of getting it either, I've not got the money for this...so I ask, what does this mean from the clubs web page re the Journey:

"The Journey will premiere on Fox Footy on Tuesday, March 15, at 8:30pm and will be available on-demand via www.carltonfc.com.au/thejourney.

What does "on-demand via www.carltonfc.com.au/thejourney." mean??Do they want me to pay through the Website if I want to watch?? Or ....Hallelujah ...something free for Members and Supporters??

Feedback anyone?

That's was so bloody good. Should've aired it a month earlier as it's bound to push the membership along.

If Bolts coaches half as well as he speaks we will have a great man leading us.

They will grow into men faster then most being lead by this guy.

My favorite bit was when he prompted the young lads to all swim after Curnow was punished for not bringing his ball.  The way he explained that situation was so clear and direct and then when he did the swim as well, he banged home the point.

We haven't played a single game yet but I now very confident we selected a great coach for the era our club is about to embark on.

It is so good to have a coach who is articulate and knows what he's doing and it's great to see the quality young men we have at our footy club.  Blokes who were held back by previous coaches as well as the newbies now have a real opportunity to shine.

Go Blues!

I have no doubt that Bolts and his crew will lead us to #17. Very rarely does a man come along that collectively changes the minds of an entire football club.
Another thing as clear as day in the doco is that Weiters is going to be the best backman our Club has seen since SOS. I know its a big statement, but the kid is just so mature, so selfless with his actions, that you know he's going to be something special.
Oh,. and I teared up a bit when I saw SOJ crying. You saw how much it meant to him to be playing for Carlton, and you know that whether he makes it or not, he wont die trying.

Love The Journey my, or should I say OUR, club is on. Impressed with Bolts techniques of allowing the boys to "feel the experience" opposed to telling them or having them "talking about the experience". Powerful experiential learning cleverly combined with vicarious learning. capped with reflection and celebration... Very cool.... Must have been freeking freezing in the water in Tassie
I'll be watching for those green shoots with a confidence that the club's building with integrity and unity.
Go Blues.

Weiters stroking the CFC on his guernsey after being drafted was a magic moment.

Yes, I was intrigued as he seemed to be in a state of complete absorption. As my nan would have said - penny for your thoughts son.
The SOS family scene was special too. Young Jack's anxiety was palpable, as was his tears of joy - which I don't mind saying, I shared with him.

Ultra impressive.....

Quote of the show for me, wrapping up the draftee camp, Bolton was asked by one of the draftees "What did you learn from this trip?".  He replied "I learned one thing, one thing more than anything - our future is strong at our footy club'

I feel like going down to training and doing a few laps for Bolts myself!!!

I think Bolton is impressive and his teaching background is an advantage when dealing with 18 year olds.  But we have to remember that no single approach suits all.  The problem with boys is that they tend to be very hard to read, especially as it's easier to extract teeth from them than verbal responses.  What might look to us as gazes of rapt attention may be something quite different.  Weitering, though, did come across as a guy who is exceptionally mature, a natural leader and the sort who is keen to absorb any advice given to him.

Good luck with telling them to help Mum and Dad at home and not spend all of their time on the couch playing computer games.  If it works, I should get him to come around and talk to my son.

Going to watch this tonight but aren't we going a little early with the fluff pieces?

Its possibly the only time we will be able to do them without wearing too much criticism and its going to be important that this side of the club is shown because I don't believe the work we are doing now will immediately yield positive results and its more about selling and obtaining supporter buy in to "the Journey".

If you think about it, when we are roughly 4-16 (havent looked at the fixture, but its a likely scenario) if they were to release this, it would be harder for people to swallow and this is a snippet into a lot of work being done.

After watching it, you'll notice that its pretty much a compilation of a lot of different videos that the club has made thus far.

ITs part o the process of getting all our fans to understand exactly where the Club is at, and what we re trying to do to change it.
As was also said on Fox Footys Round Table discussion when they were talking about Carlton, its going to be very important that we remain united even during the inevitable tough times ahead when we cop floggings, or lose multiple games in a row. I remember Hawthorn copping some awful thumping's in Clarko's first year, but it was all part of the process, and look at them now.

Bolton using the jump in the water incident as a metaphor for one in all in was gold.  For a club that has done so little right it appears that the correct people are now running the ship.  Quality work from the club, albeit long overdue.

This was a fantastic doco and really eye opening.

I think the part where BB asks Jamo (as a 140 odd game player of the club) about what he would expect a guy like Viojo Rainbow to say to him if he can see Jamo doesnt adhere to team structures on the field was interesting.

Jamo replied that he would expect to be called to account on it, even by a first gamer.

If everyone is on board with this line this will be a significant shift in the club's mindset.

Lets hope so.

To me that was someone seeing that KJ isn't a hard trainer and sent Craig over to him to test him.

I thought this might be a bit more cringe worthy than it was, although I wonder how much of this is put on for the camera, the question to Jammo and the expect it answer had extra shots of Jammo and DVR cut into the footage.

When Weitering gather the boys around and told them to be ready for anything, was fantastic leadership stuff, but again was it organised for the camera?

The 'genius' in that bit was after asking KJ how he felt about the whole thing, he did the classic Columbo 'just one more thing', "who won the last one?" knowing full well the answer beforehand and gave the pseudo-surprised response of "oh you did..."

Points out to JK that if you listen to him, you will get results and get to the level required.

It was a nice piece, fluffy or not. And if the club cant make us smile before round 1 then what hope do we have?!

Regardless of the slightly scripted elements, it was abundantly clear that expectations are being raised every day. Bolton is setting a good tone: one that combines teaching and instruction with a really strong leadership and management focus.

I find it difficult to imagine any of our previous 3 coaches conducting themselves in such a way.

I can't see it: I don't have pay TV. However, I am really pleased that it exists. It goes to show that the new administration is becoming more media savvy and more inclusive.

A similar comparison can be seen when you look at the information coming out of the NBs. For years there was nothing. Nada, Nichts! Zip. Now they proudly publish everything they can, in multiple formats and in a relatively user - friendly fashion. A HUGE improvement.

There is more to be done, but the mere fact that something like 'The Journey' exists shows our club is moving in the right direction.

Yes, that's what I meant.  He'd only just met him and had to ask whether he was Kristian or KJ but knew exactly who he was and had the routine planned.  Even if Jaksch twigged, and I suspect he didn't, he learnt something about running and himself.

There's no doubt that there were marshmallows and fairy floss flying left right and center.
KJ was being gently blowtorched, and CC may not be the brightest spark, but it gave off a positive glow...
The one in all in bit was heart warming to anyone who was at the scum game at Princess Park a couple of weeks ago...

The one in all in bit was heart warming to anyone who was at the scum game at Princess Park a couple of weeks ago...
It buys time, it's better than we've delivered in the past, we are a work in progress.
Bolton said something very interesting at the very start "The players love comfortable - we have to keep them uncomfortable, not stressed or anxious, just uncomfortable"

Under Malthouse = Stressed, anxious and disconnected
Under Bolton = Uncomfortable, connected and tuned in

Let's hope so

Craig has obviously been directed to focus on him.

Classic classroom teacher practice. Get your support teacher to just wander around the room taking in interest in everything that's going on, but make sure they are focusing on Billy, Amanda and Ahmad!!

Seriously though I think we have the right people in charge. I feel like we've been a better club since BB stepped foot in the door. Exciting journey ahead. :)

Finally found a bit of time to watch it. Terrific stuff, really enjoyed it and it confirms to me anyway that we are on the right track even if we have a long journey ahead. Very interesting interaction between KJ and Craig for sure. Craig has obviously been directed to focus on him. Looking forward to some more episodes.

Seems the club knows that KJ is a serious talent but has issues between the lugholes. Hopefully now KJ also realises he has an attitude problem that is easily rectified if he acknowledges he has a problem and is willing to make strong change to his mindset.

Well I'm hoping your wrong. Generally speaking if you start mentally weak you struggle to ever reach any great levels.

He won't amount too much unless he makes big leaps this year IMO.

Yep, you're right, seldom do blokes with issues between the ears get there... my hope is that the issues between KJs ears aren't so great and with the right management, he'll make the very necessary changes in attitude.

Yeah in the past I would have cringed at this sort of stuff but loved every second of it.

Got the tingles as well and usually only watching Fraser Brown's tackle in the 99 prelim does that to me.

When Bolts said "defining draft boys" in the tassie camp that really got me going. As he knows from being at Hawthorn every era needs "a" draft where they hit the jackpot. And if the stars align with this group then we are rocketing up the ladder.

Seeing and hearing Bolton and Weitering has filled me with so much belief. Alas when Murph and Simmo got up still got the sense that Murph couldn't command the room and was slightly edgy. Won't be the case when Weitering becomes captain one day.

Well, i'm not sure how Sticks would have performed up in front of a big group as Captain.....he simply left his talking for the field - and that's fine by me!

Big fellas (as in tall) have the psychological advantage over the smaller captains that everyone looks up to them and they command an audience. Blokes like Brown, Sticks, etc with their booming voices get immediate attention, almost by intimidation.

The critical factor is that Murph and Simmo have the overwhelming support of the players, coaches and board.  That tells me that external doubts about their leadership are unfounded.

I like it, and it's a necessary part of selling the message to the faithful that Bolton is the man for us moving forward.

In fact it might be a major driver in why we made it, because it helps restore the faith in a disconnected fan base and really hits home that we are a different club now.

I would love to have seen more of the grass roots work the guys do. The little segment showing John Barker and his son at Auskick brought a tear to my eyes. The blocking-out of the whiteboard messages, although necessary, was annoying.

As with last year, it is very clear that a lot of thought has gone into identifying draft picks with footy ability and good, strong characters.

The Tassie trip is such a great way bring new recruits into the club; it's a bit like an abbreviated version of basic training in the military, but with a lot more emphasis on mutual support and individual achievement in a team environment.

Anyone who has any doubts about our club being in good hands should be re-assured after watching this instalment of the Journey.

Once again big tick.

With Bolton, I don't have any qualms about the personality type.  He is the sort of person you would love to work for as he seems hard but fair, supportive but even measured in terms of looking at inputs vs outputs.  Will praise the good stuff, and be constructive on the poor stuff, always linking it back to the values of the organisation.

We have a great manager of people.

What we don't know about is his ability to be an AFL senior coach.  Tactically, I think it's hard to mark someone with a younger group of players, as they are still in the process of implementation of system.  There will always be teething problems, particulary when compared to mature systems (i.e. Hawthorn, West Coast, Bulldogs et al) and there are always going to be the type of players that are incompatible with said systems that lurk around footy clubs which means that in can take time to get to a point where these players are no longer in the best lineup due to their ability to perform in that system vs their peers.  The perfect example of this is Levi.  He is easily a walk up start with us, but we need someone more competant in the ground level forward pressure, and finishing of work in that role.  Until we identify one, he weakens the system.

At the end of the day, I hope that we stick with Bolton, as we have a truly competant human being here, who even if he is short tactically of being a great AFL coach has all the attributes that should see him get there by the time his career is over (unless the Carlton Football Club culture has something else to say about it).

Under no circumstances, should we think that sacking Bolton is a good idea based upon what I have seen of him as a person, and his particular skill set and methodology.

In Aboriginal culture, once a family member has passed they generally don't say that name again. So if Mary passes away and were to come up in conversation she would be referred to as Margaret's Sister, or Bob's Aunty etc.

It depends on where you are.  Many Woiwurrung/Wurundjeri women are named Jemima after a particularly strong ancestor and cross-generational use of given names is common among Victorian Aboriginal families. There's still an avoidance of referring to a deceased person by name, at least for a few years and terms like "that old fella", "brother boy" and "sister girl" are used.

In some places where traditional names are used, people are given an Anglo name because that can continue to be used when a shared traditional name must change due to a death.  I met a bloke whose "Anglo" name was Musso, short for Mussolini.  He was born in the late 30s and his brother's "Anglo" name was Hitler!

If SPS wants to be called Sammo out of respect for his grandfather, then Sammo it is!

The problem being is that often over delivered where our team fell over and people struggled to make the expectation match reality.

Different department.

Have a think about our marketing over the years.  Since 2009 or perhaps even when Judd came aboard, I have seen them do really good things.

Our membership department has been the opposite.

Marketing has been fairly consistent IMHO.

Someone said the other day (forget who) that Bolton is a great leader/educator of young man, but is questionable when it comes to the senior blokes.

That together with unknown tactical nous would be the only (potential) problems i see with him at this stage.

Given we have a gun young team, and in need of a cultural change. He is certainly the type of person we need at the club at present.

What happens 3 years from now? Who knows.

Meh - seems like much ado about nothing to me.

Teams were bonding long before you had to make a video about it. And I'm sure the kids already knew that AFL players get injured, sometimes you have to push through pain, fatigue etc. for your teammates.

I finished watching this and wondered whether Bolts would be better suited to being a motivational speaker, or one of those new fangled "Organizational Change" managers.

And God forbid, I heard one of the kids start talking about density. Bloody hell.

Some footage of Bolts and Co showing the kids how to develop elite field and goal kicking skills, elite hand passing skills etc. might be nice.
