Title: Rd 4: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs. Western Bulldogs
Post by: crashlander on April 15, 2016, 03:29:38 pm
I will be at this game, so have fun with this thread. Hopefully we can be more impressive than last week.

By the way, I named this week's threads with the type (in game, post game, etc.) first, so that it would be easier to identify Do you like it this way?

FFS how many times does Gibbs just let go of the ball when under pressure?

Fun fact....
The 5 players we got in for trading away Troy Menzel are all playing tonight.

Menzel -> Pick 28+Kerridge
Pick 28 -> Phillips, Sumner, Lamb and Plowman

Incidentally, Menzel isn't playing at the Crows at the moment.

Best 5 for 1 trade ever.

Fork me we are lucky we picked up Wright.

Brilliant kick by Curnow to set up the goal.

11 touches combined from Gibbs Murphy Cripps and Thomas

Bit of talent in that group.

Weitering on the other hand.

As usual our ball movement is slow motion. Who'd be a key forward at Carlton. Jakasch and Jones will beg to stay in the NBs where there's some speed of delivery...lol.

So far as I can tell, we're winning the marks Inside 50 and the hit outs. Everything else the Doggies way.

The best kind of pressure is scoreboard pressure.

Until we can get our blokes to kick some goals, and that definitely includes the lump wearing #41, we are going nowhere.

7-0 free kick count this quarter with 4 minutes remaining. We are the zero.

I'm prepared to cut Plowman and Sumner some slack because it's their first week back and they're under done.

As for the likes of Gibbs, Thomas et al.  they can F right off.  They ran out of excuses long ago.  Not fit enough.  Not committed enough.  Not good enough.

Title: Re: Rd 4: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs. Western Bulldogs
Post by: laj on April 16, 2016, 08:32:47 pm
All I want to see is a proper running game. Get ahead of the ball, create space. We'd kick a few more goals and make skills easier in space. We'd cough up a few the other way but I prefer to lose a high scorer than this stagnant horrible crap!!! First thing a side should bee taught, then blend the rest of it in as we develop. What we have now is pure compete and utter crap.

Don't think we can completely blame the forwards for this. It has to get near them first. Then it has to get near them in a way that isn't a meaningless long bomb to 3 on 1 contest.
Of course kicking goals on the rare occasions we have a shot wouldn't hurt.
Title: Re: Rd 4: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs. Western Bulldogs

Great to see Byrne making his mark, C Currnow has show bit for the future, but will take time. Unfortunate about McKay think he would have been out there as well. Some nice signs , but picked up to many second rate players in one hit, will slow down the development

Cripps is having a shocker. Gibbs is playing at half pace. Rowe lacks the grit needed by a KDP.

Actually I think the umpires need to stop giving stupid free kicks. We're clearly the lesser team tonight anyway, the dogs don't need any additional help.

If Cripps is injured, give him a rest.

If Gibbs is going at half rat power, drop him.
Title: Re: Rd 4: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs. Western Bulldogs
Post by: shawny on April 16, 2016, 08:38:24 pm

I'm at the game and this is utter crape.

Mick is coaching tonight. Identical to early last year.

No system going forward and refusing to move the ball early even when there's space if it means going inboard. What hope do we give kicking a half reasonable score when we constantly go to the boundary.

Gibbs and Murphy are finished. Will never amount to anything.

In terms of player development the umps may actually be doing us a favor and teaching our kids how to play smarter.

Really disappointed in Nick Graham's efforts so far this year. Should have been his break out year based on his second half of 2015. Won't be surprised if he finds himself back in the NB's if he doesn't turn things around soon.

Agree. The holding the ball against him was inexcusable, just stood there and waited for the whistle. Shadow of his 2015 form

The deer in headlights mentality of our players is making me sick.  I don't give a crap if we lose, but at least do it standing up and take on the game.  Don't just get the ball and in panic kick it forward.  It always comes back with dividends.

Cripps is having a shocker, but frankly he should still be developing and not leading.  Where the fug is Murphy and Gibbs?

Weitering is an out and out champion.  Charlie Curnow is also fantastic.  Plowman has been good.  Byrne has had moments, except for a horrid turnover.

Philips is a waste of space.  Had hopes for him, now dashed.  Kerridge is great in and under but coughs it up Mitch Robinson and Tom Bell style too often.  Feel for Sumner, clearly not fit enough yet.

You can't make a purse out off a pigs ear, we don't have the cattle in many area's , we will continue to sift through for the next few years add a few players each year, and hope a few stick and create a place for them selves. Unfortunately with this process unless you make the correct decisions on a regular basis , you can just keep sifting for many years without  any real guarantee . With so many inexperienced players it can be a slow process

Yes, I think so too.

Actually, select Jones and Jaksch,  drop Kreuzer and Phillips and let Casboult ruck all day. Mightn't win many tapouts but he'll take a crapload of marks well away from goal range. I am half joking there of course but we need to do something.

Prof...Philips tries to mark the ball with flat hands that are too rigid...has no give or feel when he attempts marks, everything just bounces off his hands...I'd rather Wood and Gorringe for while and see how they go....these two present ruck incumbents give us nothing...

How can Kreuzer not make the distance.

If only we could use thee ball and kick at goal, we'd be right in it.

We'd be 10 goals up.

Cripps x2
Gibbs

Next week I have Jaksch and Jones in and Casboult ruck. The first two can kick at goal and Casboult becomes twice the player away from goal. He'll take marks at least as the rest of our rucks are bloody useless right now. Nothing to lose.

Actually no it wasn't. Better than the last two, if Buckley and Krooz took their chances then it could have been interesting.

Plenty to like in sumner, lamb, plow, weiters, doc.

Would kill for Tomlinson. We'd possibly have won two by now

I'll swim against the tide here and say that Phillips will make the grade, don't forget he's played under 20 games and for a ruckman he's only a baby.
There's a long way to go but if we work hard and make good decisions we'll get there.
Docherty our best tonight I reckon, he's a jet.

You can have that but Phillips probably played the better game than Kreuzer tonight.

Kreuzer had 11 touches, only 2 were to our advantage (DE 18%!)
Phillips only had 6 touches, but 4 were to our advantage (DE 67%)

Kreuzer missed 2 shots, only scored 1 behind
Phillips had 1 shot and kicked it.

Phillips had more tackles, contested marks and 1%ers and had less clangers 1 to 4 by kreuzer.
They had the same amount of marks and tackles.
Kreuzer won hitouts 24 to phillips 21 and had 1 clearance and 2 I50's to Phillips none.

Both have a lot of work to do.
1 was a former #1 pick.
The other is a bloke thrown in from a package deal.

Don't sell Phillips short.

Phillips did get better as the game went on.

Let Casboult takes Rowe's spot in defence, Jaksch and Jones in, Wood in for Kreuzer.  Wood generally gives you something for his ability. Kreuzer is just terrible right now.

Rowe is awful right now.

I did write that in the post. ;)

@jimbo
Let Jaksch take rowes spot in defense. Put Jones up forward with Casboult. Keep Phillips and Kreuzer for another week.
