Ok, so don't drop Dow and setters...

Who do you drop to bring in Williams and cover for injuries to Silvagni and parks?

Someone has to go....those 2 are most likely.

Makes me chuckle. When has Kennedy been given 2 or even 3 games to get form? Unlike Dow and Setters. They should have been dropped sooner. One is just not cutting it, repeatedly (Dow) and the other is a corralling seagull played in the wrong position (setters). I don’t care how great they looked pre season. This is the actual season and they need to perform when points are on offer, when the heat comes.

Kennedy is underrated. Good mark and accurate kicker, good attitude. Hope he kicks 2-3 to make the MC think twice about dropping performers, instead of playing favourites. Don’t perform? Off you go into our VFL team.

You're right, Woodstock, but the biggest enemy in the mis- and dis-information stakes is not the press (they are bad enough), but more our wonderful friend the internet.  People can publish any unsubstantiated rubbish with no filters or review processes to check their 'facts' - and if the website looks fancy enough, it can instantly become the 'real truth'.  And when these 'facts' are questioned, it becomes part of a big conspiracy.

After all, look at most of the rubbish we post on this chat site  ;)

With the internet in place and spouting off drivel, the role of the Media is ever more important to be a place of trust worthy, impartial, content. That is not the case, ergo the crapstorm. I am starting to have my kids watch the news with me to get informed. Only a little, but it’s important to get em started.

It really is amazing how there will always be those that are easily led up the garden path. Religion are the masters of it, but the Media and politicians have caught up. That’ll never change. What is interesting is the role of the media and the revenues generated from emotive “journalism”. The quality of long form content is stuffed. That’s why I like listening to long podcasts with interesting guests. Can be quite insightful. Plus you can stuff around the house or garden while listening.

I liked this quote, credited to Denzel Washington (unless he nicked it from someone)

“If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed, if you do read it, you're misinformed."

The Sports Desk / Re: Rewarding BAD Behaviour
Good to see I was not the only one who thought the same thing.  As noted in the Age article:

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/tennis/umpire-who-clashed-with-serena-williams-won-t-referee-her-matches-20190817-p52i3f.html

Stacey Allaster, the chief executive for professional tennis at the US Tennis Association, has confirmed that Ramos would return as part of the umpiring staff at this year's Open but would not be assigned to matches involving Williams or her older sister Venus.

"We don't need to go there," Allaster said in a telephone interview. "There are more than 900 matches here over the three weeks, and there are lots of matches for Carlos to do."

Allaster said tournament officials did not want to create a distraction by putting Williams and Ramos back on the same court.

"This is just for 2019. Let's just not put everyone in that spotlight. It's not necessary," Allaster said.

Right. I call horse dung. I say the Establishment, Media etc want her Highness to get that final Grand Slam. Reads like Serena insisted that that horrible man not disrupt her right to a run at the Title. A bit of Tall Poppy Syndrome? Not really. Whether you’re a complete Flog like Kyrgios, who should be banned for a couple of years, or an all time great like Williams. Don’t reward bad behaviour. Sponsors have far too much influence on trying to limit organisers from enforcing ethics and standards. Too many Prima donnas out there with chips on their shoulders. I vaguely remember some female players spitting the dummy because the French open officials insisted on a certain dress code. Imagine the bloody narcissism, the entitlement, to even argue the point. Just do as you’re told. You’re getting paid insane money to do something you love. And then this? How about you focus on your game. You don’t have to be there and the Tournament will be there long after you’re dead.

Sorry. I hate these antics. I swear the press do it on purpose and cause rampant anxiety among the masses with the emotive “journalism” being pushed by the hour. 95% of it is either blatantly snowflake drivel, right wing denialism or just blatant bolox. There needs to be a fact checking industry regulator who keeps em honest.

Listening to the boos ringing out last night when Smith got hurt and when he was walked off, and again when he came back and then got booed again when he ended up getting lbw. What flogs. Reminded me why I don’t like the English as a ‘group’ when they start thinking Rule Britannia. Wan$ers.

Anyway. This time LP, your latest escapade of standing righteously on your stirrups, shouting about the inequities of Life is fully justified  ;D

PS. Don’t stop.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Celebration: AFL 2019 Rd 12: Carlton vs Brisbane
Woodstock....agree in principle but Kelly from all accounts has some extenuating circumstances. One of his kids has a disability and it's more about having the support around his partner who has apparently struggled with being away from family. I remember a recruiting official from Adelaide years ago getting a bollocking and losing his job over comments about recruiting indigenous players from interstate (all from the PC brigade at the AFL) when all he was doing was stating a fact....clubs are more mindful of it these days.

But Kelly didn't do himself any favours last year when saying the move back to WA was all about family when he came out and ruled out playing for the Dockers who were into him as well as the Eagles. If it IS all about family then it shouldn't matter where you're playing as long as you're at home if that's where you want to be.

I stand corrected buddy. That’s what you call extenuating circumstances. Tough one. One wonders why he made the trip in first place then. $$$? The costs of living with a disability can be outrageously high.

Maybe I'm exaggerating a little in terms of being delisted, but I maintain Kelly wouldn't be successful at our club.
For one thing, I think he is a lot better player due to the players around him. Even with his form, he is way down the list of players that opposition coaches would target for close attention.
Secondly, I doubt he would stick around playing for a club that cant win a game, especially when I doubt he would be a superstar in Navy. Too many things pulling him back to WA. Do you think he'd have stayed with Geelong this season if they werent winning games? I would suggest he may have gone back to WA and sat the year out.
Not going to comment on the others you have mentioned. It wasn't the intention of my post to denigrate Kelly or any of the other State League players.

Amazing isn’t it. It’s a professional sport, a job. If you’re not willing to travel and commit for a number of years and bring your family along if needed, to set you up for life, then I wouldn’t want them at the club. Absolute nonsense and shows immaturity of character. NFL, Soccer, Whatever. Even a corporate job. If someone offers you 5, 10, 15 times the $$ you are on now, never mind the chance to play in the big league and at the MCG? No thanks. Lack of ambition in my books and not something fitting our fledging Culture.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Daisy
On another note, what's the general feeling about Thomas being dropped this week? We can't really afford to be dropping senior blokes but I'm happy with the club decision....he's been around long enough to realise he stuffed up and will cop it on the chin.

I say good move club. With so many youngsters on our list, the club had to punish him. Even just for the optics, it sets a bad example. It’s not about Daisy, it’s about the youngsters and the club branding. It’s a week off, not the end of the world like some peanuts are going on about. Move on.
