I could only listen on radio stream, as we're OS.
Commentary suggested we got quite a few lucky one's!!!
But there you have it. They can make it sound like whatever they like.

Looking like it...that marking attempt was worrying , didnt want the contact so he didnt step back.....had a few mates in Boekhorst and Smedts......wasnt happy with Graham initially but he had a go after half time...

Scoreboard flattered us a bit... they just seemed to move the ball too quick for us to set up.

Overall effort was ok, but we really need to be a bit braver with ball movement.

I believe this is against official club policy at the moment. Apparently our players need to be taught to catch and kick.

They were able to transition the ball way too easily. Quite a few times chances for goals to us ended up scores for them.

Picked a bad side.

Played the smaller forward line and while Jones played well the idea of moving Castagna to FF worked for them.....I would have played Jones in attack half way through the last quarter....

He marks and goals we had a sniff... I very disappointed with that "attempt".  He looks flashy out in the open having a run but doesn't like it physical.

Agreed re Smedts, Boakhosrt and Graham.

Too many of our support act didn't contibute enough today, leaving too much to too few.

Boekhorst, schmedts, pickett, SPS (28 touches combined) all made little impact, with Graham only marginally more. Lose this many posessions through the middle and it is going to be very difficult. Richmond's goal kicking was ordinary so the score flattered us in the end.  48 tackles is also a poor return, espcially for a low scoring game.

Thought we were coached well today, making some changes in the back half to negate rance in the second half, but lacked the execution. Our backline got a bit disorganised, as the richmond small forwards kept moving and defended well without the ball.

Best were cripps, gibbs, kreuzer and docherty. Murphy was out of sorts today, running like a headless chook at times attempting to fill the many gaps. He has been doing this much of the season, doing an extraordinary amount of running. Richmond negated him well today so he was often out of the game, especially in the first half.

Was impressed with charlie curnow today. Took some good marks and moved well over the whole game. He is developing well. Highlight was cripps' mark in the last i think, along with his burst out the middle and brilliant kick to casboult. Champagne football.

Richmond are a good side and do seem to lift against us. But have a few passangers, especially across the middle and it is quite a handicap.

Yes, and it's difficult to do much with that last kick you referred to in the in-game thread when you spend an hour chipping around, giving the opposition time for a degustation dinner, then some extra time to flood and set up real nice.

I must've been watching a different game ::)

Maybe you were.
I will give 3 examples of the top off my head.

2 examples in the below passage.

Richmond player handballs it out, is called for a throw with back to the umpire, the next possession Cas pushes clearly in the back and is paid the mark regardless to pass into the square for a goal to Daisy.

Another.. Cotchin drags the ball in, when Cripps jumps on top he puts his hands Cotchin's face, but we are paid the free kick, I felt the hands in the face should have taken precedence to the holding the ball, the umpire payed it the other way.

I am sure I could think off more also...
It is easy to just look at when it goes against us, but it doesn't always paint the right picture.
In my mind we were not closes to hard done by from the umpires.

We lost it at the selection table.

Losing 3 kids with enthusiasm and hunger was going to be hard to replace.

Failure to bring in White to do a job, or as a swingman to mix things up wasn't a good start as he brings the requisite hunger to the contest.

Pickett, simply doesn't influence the game enough. Yes, he needs games and we need to cross our fingers, arms and legs for him, but it wasn't the week for him.

Smedts....not sure what we were thinking with bringing him in this week. If anything he needs to be played deep forward, not across the middle/backline.

Graham....does a job....just not well enough. Will always be a small step below AFL level, but at least we know what he offers and is consistent.

Already having Boekhorst and Lamb, while adding the above 3, meant we had a few too many ???'s on effort and output. Obviously losing Lamb early was not ideal, but we may have lost Boekhorst, Pickett and Smedts as well. Non-eventers, the lot of them.

I would've preferred the mature bodies of White and Armfield to all of the above.

But...hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and do better at the selection table next week.

I reckon the umps hurt the tigers in others.

Not a great performance by the umps, but at the end of the day it went both ways and lets call it a draw.

Selection wise, I think we went into management mode with a few of the youngsters.  Cunningham, Fisher and Williamson all travelled interstate, probably had a few niggles and then faced the prospect of a six day turnaround before the Crows.  I'll be interested to see how many of them return this week.

I understand we are only half way through rebuild and attempting to build this list-depth for the future will be challenging.

Happy to accept mediocre performances from youngsters from time to time. Just not make a habbit of it.

Perrenialy short one consistent classy midfielder to support Cripps, Gibbs and Kreuzer and I think this is Josh Kelly.

Murphy should play as hard working small forward rotating through the midfield. Need to get this midfield right must be this year and must keep Gibbs too.

Beaten comprehensively at our own game?

Too much left to too few, again. Thank the gods for Cripps, Kreuzer, Docherty and Gibbs.

How many of our tackles were easily broken?

Was Murphy instructed to go at 60% today?

Samo does a couple of pretty things but little that is hard/ruthless. Has he been told not to hurt himself?

Pickett, Boekhorst and Samo contributed far, far too little. All 3 should be returned to the NBs. Many of us were surprised at who was promoted and who was not dropped, ie surprised Boekhorst kept his spot and surprised Pickett promoted. Pickett is beginning to remind me of the bloke he replaced on our list - Smith... runs around a lot, jumps about a lot but doesn't actually achieve very much.

Were we instructed not to bring our 'attitude' today? 48 tackles, good of us to not bruise the Tiggers.

Good to see Meat work so hard.

Thought Graham was far from our worst.

This 'one tall' up forward isn't working.

Agree with Kruds comments...our spud factor was too high, too many VFL standard players only....not the first game we have lost at the selection table.
Hardwick was a bit more inventive with his moves as well....their  small forward line worked vs our taller backs....Plowman, Marchbank and Weitering were serviceable at best and not suited to some of the Tiger smalls...

Boekhorst has been a bust...gone at years end.
Smedts isnt quick enough or good enough in pressure games.
Pickett wants to play bruise free pretty football or spectate.....
Graham gave effort after half time but wont ever be the class mid we need...just caught in between VFL and AFL standard..

Umpiring was woeful but not the difference....

Levi probably did enough to keep the Tigers interested...

Need the second tall forward as Baggers said...Harry probably has to play even though his form isnt great in the NB's......
Same old same old...Rance marking all our bombs assisted by Astbury, at least Harry might force a contest and some loose ball..

Excellent points. I'll add terrible tackling attempts and insipid pressure. And Murphy. Show boating again. Man he is overrated, his timidness kills me. Set a very poor example today when the captain needed to smash someone into the ground and make a stand. I don't know, I just don't have the love for him like others do. Sorry, rant over.

Poor selections. Unfortunate about Lamb. Hope the lad is ok. Crows at the G next shall be a drumming. They will be baying for blood after the Hawks loss and we will get a pasting unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Pickett and Smedts should not play again until they are exceptional in their endeavour and impact in the NB.

He won't get it because we lost and that is okay, but I think Charlie Curnow would just about have been a lock for the Rising Star this week if we won and if he keeps this up, he is a certainty to get one.

I think we were completely outplayed in regards to having no way to stop the ball movement from our forward 50 in transition, I cannot remember us being beaten so easily in this fashion in quite a while.

It is going to be a game to learn from, but I think there might be a hell of a lot of tough talk in the reviews this week.

This was a list shaping win if you want a positive, some players like Charlie Curnow established their credentials, some like Boekhorst, Smedts and Pickett probably had their papers stamped.
Selection and lack of appreciation of Richmonds game plan/setup didnt help....
Shame with Pickett as he has skills and was a No 4 pick but he just doesnt seem to be able to concentrate or apply himself for 100 minutes...makes a brave smother then half attempts a mark playing bruise free footy...very frustrating is that lad...

I've been banging on about it a bit, but up until recently we've had a blessed run with injuries.

Now we lost 3 players with injury from last week. Add that to the 2 key posts down back with knees and thats as big as our injury list has been all year.
The result?
A very poor result in the 1's and a smacking in the 2's.

We need to hope we have some players back ASAP or we will repeat our 2nd half of the season last year.

We have Adelaide and Dees in the coming weeks, followed by the 'easier' game of last years premiers.

Its going to get worse before it gets better.

Boeky has had enough chances to prove himself - has pace and skill, but that's not enough.

Plenty of players had their colours lowered today. I wonder whether the injuries suffered by Pickett and Smedts in the past has made them a little timid ? Smedts played his worst game for us today, although he wasn't Pat Malone. I still think he and Pickett need to be give the benefit of the doubt, for now.

Whatever selection issues we have, the teams currently sitting top 4 don't play molasses footy.

Exactly. Sliding doors moment right there. Plus, first 2 scores of the last q were points - make 'em goals and the Tiggies would have been thinking "here we go again".

Our worst 4 are much worse than their worst 4.  They had a plan to strangle our half forward line and they stuck to it.

Have another look.... the kick was good.

Pickett was running back to the square then stopped and jumped too soon... it's easy for me to say from lounge but he should have kept going back with the flight.. he didn't want it badly enough imo.

I know he's young and inexperienced etc etc... but I've seen it a few times in general play he steps back and hopes for it to bounce his way instead of attacking the pill

I had high hopes for Boeky, but I'm always getting sucked in by those pacy, silky types. His progenitor, a certain Kane Lucas, was rookied by West Coast, and proceeded to do sfa.

I can't see either WA club being interested, but I'm always open to surprises.

Ill drive him over, hand delivered. The guy is simply not AFL standard.

I'll pitch in with some petrol money and your flight back. Business class? Come on, let's raise enough money for GTC to return Boekhorst to WA. Maybe there's a discount for 2 and we can send Pickett back as well. Maybe hide Fyffe in your luggage on your return.  ;D

I don't need to, I was sitting right above it in Q9 with a perfect view. The kick should have been lower and should have allowed Pickett to run onto it. It was too loopy and gave the defenders (ie plural) time to make it difficult.

First qtr was an arm wrestle, after qtr time, they just ran us ragged. It was like circle work, the transitioned the ball from defence to I50 with ease. 11.18, had the kicked straighter it would have been real ugly. You dont win many games of footy kicking 1 behind in a qtr of footy no matter how close the game is.

We have a few still on the books that aren't
As Kruddler said we have been lucky with injuries which has papered over the cracks.
We have too many one paced mids.
No forwards.
We need Harry to come good, 2 extra A grade mids and a small forward.
The Gibbs trade, if it happens, may get us one.
Pick 2,3 or 4 should get us another.
We should work hard for a clever quick small forward.

like I said,  it's easy for me to say from my lounge... but that really killed us off as it went straight down the other end for a goal to them.

Go to 5:39 of the AFL website highlight package. Look at the space in the pocket, if the kick went there and drew Pickett to that area, we wouldnt be having this discussion.

I've been on this site for many many year and never had a crack at the umpires, but gee it's hard not to tonight.
I often have a crack at the umpires. Some times I regret it. Other times I do not. I found today very hard to handle on the umpiring front. We look for consistency and we do not get it. Rules that were enforced to a ridiculous degree 4 rounds ago now may as well not exist.
The umpires did not cost us the game: our own play did that. But the way the game was umpired made the game harder to stomach.

God that was a frustrating game to watch - we just needed to harden up a bit stick a screwing tackle! Tigers weren't that good, and we played as bad as I've seen us play, and it was only what 4 goals?

Jack Reiwoldt is a Goddard.

Murph - what's going on there? Timid slow and seemed really out of sorts?

Cripps champ.

That last bit of play where Gibbs kicked beautifully to Pickett who completely missed it - what was that?  Obviously inexperience, we really need and want players that want to be the match winner - too many chipping it around rather than taking it on
We have been playing quite well for some weeks now. We've been able to keep our intensity up. But it wasn't there today. The game reminded me more of last year. They wanted it more than we did and we did not hunt them: they hunted us. We had a lot of players down today, yet we managed to keep in the game. Our disposal was ordinary and our play often stagnant. I am not surprised, as we just couldn't generate any run or any easy possessions.

The defining play of the day was the lead up to the Gibbs to Pickett pass. We played some of our best footy for the day in that passage of play and we REALLY set up what should have been an easy goal. Pickett failed badly. Enough to question his future. We were all out of position, so Richmond took the ball the length of the field and kicked a goal. 12 point turnaround and our challenge was over.

Completely outcoached today.

Richmond figured out how to beat our defence and sliced through it almost effortlessly and with numbers every attacking thrust.

By contrast we made scoring much harder work than it needed to be because we ignored players in space in favour of speculative chances to score, and they set-up to kill our favourite forward entry by bombing long to a contest.

A lot to learn from today for our club. Any week hardwick looks a good coach is a poor week for his opponent.

I'm sure he does. That hardly makes him effective, nor does it have anything to do with him taking a big step up.

So many of our players were down yesterday, it seems churlish to isolate one or two and make them carry the can. But let's not gild the lily here.

If his performance yesterday constitutes a step up, then my issues with him would appear to be well justified.

What concerned me about SOJ yesterday was his inability to stop his opponent(s) running off him.  While our team defence should minimise the impact of that, SOJ's opponent(s) was able to set up several Richmond forward thrusts.  As a small/medium forward SOJ (and Bolton) needs to find a way to stop opponents exploiting his lack of pace.  Samo and Pickett having off days and Lamb getting KOd probably didn't help.

We were just not switched on - fumbled, poor disposal decisions, skill errors, pathetic tackling efforts to name just a few issues. We were caught flat footed and out of shape time and again and cut to ribbons with ease. The only saving grace was the eventual losing margin. In that the Tiggers were kind to us.

Anyway, the game provided further clarification as to this year's list management decisions. BTW, I thought Levi had a reasonably good overall  game and so did Charlie. Our midfield let us down, although I noticed that by the end we did square up on clearances a bit. Earlier we were being smashed.

He's going OK for a young bloke only half way through his second season.

Jack's issue is as a forward he doesn't have the speed to break away from the defender on the lead.
Therefore he is under pressure every time the ball is kicked to him.

Graham and Pickett both took short steps.
Really disappointed in Graham's effort as a player who is playing for his future you would think would have the run through a brick wall mindset.

Richmond rely heavily on Rance. They run and spread aswell as anyone on the break because they back Rance to win his contest.
We continually fell down at Centre half forward and that kick into half forward all day. No real options and poor disposal.

Agree. This will be looked at by other clubs, and unfortunately, there isn't much you can do to make someone faster or more athletic. The rest of the team needs to take up the slack, or Bolts needs to use Jack in imaginative ways.

That was our worst performance since Port Game and we were lucky to be in it.

Shows our lack of depth still, still 2 drafts/off seasons away.

Meh. Richmond just sweated on the inevitable poor kick coming and then bounced it out easy as you like.

I imagine a few players wont see the seniors again this year.

Richmond's set up in the second quarter particularly was like us playing against ourselves.  Once we got the ball we had no idea on how to get it forward to give us an opportunity to score.  We had 30 minutes and nothing changed - we didn't seem to have any plans or ideas on how to do things differently.  Some of the options that we took were horrific!

To be 13 points down at 3qtr time was astounding and an indictment on Richmond.  Their fumbling and lack of skill under a modicum of pressure continues to this day.  Unfortunately, we weren't in a position to take advantage of it.

Best players would be a short list this week, unlike other weeks.

Exactly.

This was one of our weakest performances for the year; a reminder of how timid we can be from days gone by. Maybe we still are, deep down inside. As the old saying goes, exert enough pressure on anyone and they'll revert to type. The Tiggers killed us and as you point out, had they kicked straight they would have won by plenty more.

Where was the 'attitude', the mongrel that we saw in the previous two weeks? Easy to pick on Ablett jr but were we scared to try the same thing with Dusty? If so, that is wimp city stuff. Real courage is getting into a bloke like Dusty. Can we only beat sides who are decimated by injury or in poor form or where we can pick on non-threatening blokes who are prime movers?

Thank you, 77, for calling it as it was. Seems we overdosed on 'pathetic pills' for both the NBs and seniors yesterday. Or perhaps we were still basking in the sunshine of back-to-back wins. That what losers do.

An all round bleak day for the Carlton Football Club. Between the NBs and seniors we kicked 12 goals for the day. Embarrassing. We're almost 66% into a reset/rebuild... really? Once we're challenged or played at our own game, we 'turn up our toes' as one commentator observed during the NBs characterless surrender at Punt road yesterday. Yesterday was a horrible reminder of our past where it was left up to a few individuals... if not for Cripps, Kreuzer, Gibbs and Docherty... I dread to think. And our skipper was the antithesis of leadership yesterday.

Players and coaches need a fair dinkum shake up... hiding behind this reset stuff has gone on long enough. And, sorry to say this, but if I see Samo cruise around the ground again playing bruise free footy I'll... cue Terry Wallace speech.

It's beginning to remind me of the bad old days when our marketing dept ran the show and the wool was pulled over our eyes, until it was impossible to mask the endemic failure of the place.

As an aside, I hope we recruit (if he retires at year's end) Luke Hodge as an assistant coach. His footy smarts, superior leadership and uncompromising ruthlessness are qualities we desperately need. And p1ss of the Adelaide bloke and get an elder coaching boss with a premiership pedigree who's got some old school intolerance to mediocrity.

I guess the frustration for me is that yesterday's game and effort looked a lot like the 'old' Carlton that we all hoped we were moving away from over the last few months. But it was back in spades yesterday, and like a lot here I felt like we deserved to be beaten by a lot more when you look at the stats. The fact that if Picketts takes the mark and goals we would have been 12 points down with 5 to play shows just how ordinary Richmond played.

There were a lot more negatives than positives yesterday. It was left to a few [Doc, Gibbs, Kruz, Simmo, Cripps] to do all the heavy lifting, and we just had way to many passengers all over the ground. We got nothing from our 'ins', structurally we were poor and we got out-coached.

Our defence against there small forward line was horrid. They took 24 marks i50 and had spare men everywhere. We were too tall and slow for their setup.

Our second tier midfielders and wingers were terrible. Boek really disappointed me after an ok game last week. Smedts was playing in defence some of the time, and SPS just cruised around without showing any intensity. Graham just doesn't have the weapons to make an impact at AFL level. Insipid comes to mind.

Forward line was [again] a shambles. No real pressure when the ball hit the ground from SOJ, Pickett and Wright, and they outnumbered and ran it coast to coast a number of times. Pickett was a real disappointment for mine, and Jack's lack of leg speed really hurts him on the big ground when the ball hits the ground.

Dusty did as he pleased all day [again] which was embarrassing at times. Murph was poor, just cruised around and went back to putting team mates under pressure with handballs rather than taking the game on when he got the ball making an impact.

They played two games where they put in a very good effort.
Maintaining that effort week after week is just not possible.
It's why a side has never gone through undefeated in the history of the game.
Even our 1995 premiership side (possibly our best ever "team") had a couple of down games.
Now when youré a side in development these "down games" occur more frequently.
It's hard for youngsters to be consistent.
I wouldn't be surprised that at some level we aren't actually targeting those games where we have less chance of winning and using them to manage players or give a few blokes a final chance.
That game earlier in the season where we played a heap of youngsters could have been such an example...."We're not likely to win....give them all a run and see what they come up with"...Unfortunately that one backfired.

And this is where I will respectfully, yet strongly, disagree with you. It is possible, in fact it is the stuff of sustained excellence and success. Excellence abhors failure.

Good sides can struggle, even be well down, yet find a way to win. This is a gladiatorial sport, which requires certain unique character and ability. We were reminded yesterday just how far off the pace we are, how ordinary we are. We're hit with a few injuries and fold up. Excuses and justifications are fast running out for poor efforts. When we excuse or rationalise poor performances, we allow them.

Agree with Lods, coming up week after week in a H & A season is nigh impossible without a downer.  And that's for a strong side. Otherwise sides would go through undefeated.

A young side building, like ours, will have many downers. Part of the process. Thing is it was as bad as we've played for a while yet we were still in the game for much of it. We are always at least competitive. We have to be accepting the young, building sides will some weeks not come up. We're all happy when we win, or even when we have a really good performance but supporters generally, for all sides, tend to sook like hell if their side has an odd bad game. Everyone is useless or no good, the sides no good, yet all is quickly forgiven if/when they win the next week. It's like supporters struggle to want to take the good with the bad hence lose perspective.

Depends whether you seek excellence or excuses; whether you tolerate mediocrity or are uncompromising.

Nah you are right we should cut corners again, pay people under the table, trade away draft picks for saviours, hire old out of date coaches, because, we want to win a meaningless game in June.

We were not remotely competitive yesterday after Q1.

The Tigers should have been ahead by 50 odd by half time....fact.

A small question for those footy boffins among us - why did we only have 69 rotations yesterday ? I would have thought being one man down we needed to max it out to 90, to give blokes as much of a breather as possible.

I thought Jones did OK, given he was on probably his toughest opponent so far, Jack "The Beggar" Riewoldt.

Hard for the defense to do much more than they did, especially given how easily and quickly Nthmond transitioned the ball.

Basha "The Basher" Houli lived up to his name.

I think Ed Curnow had some question marks over him too as well as Lachie Plowman at times.

We didn't run out the game well at all after the absence of Jed Lamb.

For me the effort wasnt what was lacking, what was lacking was the ability to have clear thinking under pressure.  We made some extremely poor decisions, multiple players "heard footsteps" and then missed the ball drop, and we looked like we were going at half rat power.

We do need to be mindful that despite all of this, our opposition had actually put a lot of time into dismantling our zone and kicking through it.  This is a great learning experience for all of our blokes, and Im not as dissapointed as everyone else because I thought we were due (maybe even overdue) for a dissapointing week.  Once you remove the enthusiasm of youth (somewhat) and replace with blokes trying to play for their careers, you end up with blokes who are not going to back their ability with confidence.

Food for thought, we were pretty crap yesterday and still won half the game against a side that is eyeing off a top 4 finish given where they are currently at.  We are on the right path.

That's more of a reflection on how good ( or not so good ? ) Richmond are... a decent side would have buried us by halftime.

If Pickett takes that mark and goals we are 11 points down with 12 minutes to go and we all know how Richmond handle a tight finish ;)

As much as we love to laugh at the tiges, they are one of the best teams this year. Their goal kicking was poor, but we missed some easy ones too. Bolton was clear some time back that this season is about developing consistent 4 quarter efforts. We haven't been too bad in this regard. Last year was focussed on strong team defence and were are seeing the fruits of that effort.  Next year will see an effort toward scoring.

I didn't think we were too bad, just had a gaggle of lesser players making little contribution. That's going to happen. Its fortunately happening less this year than last.

I understand. And you're right, what I am saying is to remain intolerant of failure/mediocrity and not to be content with isolated/moderate success. We made important changes to the club because we were candid and fed up with many facets of how the club was operating. Yesterday's loss spanked of self-satisfaction with two consecutive wins. Gotta call that for the softness that it is. I choose to remain unreasonable in my expectation of something much better than yesterday's weak effort, in many respects personified by how Samo swanned about. If Graham, or Boekhorst, or just about any other player dished up that same crud as Samo did yesterday, we'd be calling for him to be dropped to the seconds.

Perhaps I am still a little gun shy in relation to how we've been bullsh1tted to by the club over many years... promises, we suck it up, there's a flicker of hope... then same old returns. Yesterday was a huge dollop of same old. So I am beginning to ask myself have we been conned again? We are a club, results wise, of 3 speeds - we get beaten by a lot, beaten by a little or scrape in for a win, winning, generally speaking, against an opponent decimated by injury or in indifferent form.

I'm just calling it on what I am seeing right now. I've been a member since '85 (missed a few years here and there when working OS) and no matter how bad the performance I've never contemplated burning or tearing up my membership, nor not spending loot on my annual membership. I love the place which is why it hurts all the more when I see cr@p like we dished up yesterday... in both the NBs and seniors. If I dished up a performance like I saw yesterday in my own work I'd be bitterly disappointed and angry as all fck.

We were fumbling everything yesterday - so what is that? No confidence? Tiredness? Just rubbish?

I think we have some great players and some up And comers and then some - only a few in my opinion - that are perhaps on their last chance. I think the game was terrible yesterday but I think WE played under how we can play so I'm not so disappointed in the loss.

Other than a silly free Plow gave away in the goal square, I the think the defenders did as best they could under the circumstances. The way the ball came in with little or no defensive pressure from our mids and fwds, there's not much the defenders can do.

Just watched a replay of the game again... 2nd qtr, both Samo and Graham went for marks one handed, obviously hearing footsteps and failing to commit to the contest.

Gave up counting the number of half-@rsed tackles from us that were easily broken. Should have been a 12 goal drubbing, it was only the Tiggers psychological doubt/problems that helped us.

True, they are the sort of depth players you want though not the main event to really lament letting go.

I think Nick Graham is another one in this mould.  All 3 of them like a goal, all 3 of them go hard enough, all 3 of them have genuine footy smarts, but they just lack the tricks to really be damaging mids at this level.

Two weeks for Houli. That's all, 2 weeks for knocking out a player intentionally.

Evidently its ok, he is of good character. So much so that the HS makes his tribunal appearance sound more like a celebration of his character.

Even the PM and Waleed Aly were called upon to pump up his tyres and say what a top bloke he is.

It seems they know how to have us hearing footsteps even when there aren't any. The silly thing is our defence seems to stand up very well against them, or at least it has in all but one game.

I thought our midfield was ordinary last weekend, they won plenty of the ball but subjectively I think the efficiency would be well down.

Overall, I think we have become way to predictable when we are playing Nthmond in recent years. I can't count how many times we chose to kick to the Rance option, by the end of the game I was mocking us by calling the kick to the Rance zone before it happened! Even when we had options open across the field we kicked to Rance.

Not their fault, because there was no pressure applied up field, but if Richmond kicked straight, we would have been flogged.

Rance was given 6 Frees for last week.
The umpires love him.
We must have kicked it to him 10 times.

Is it purely by accident that in a game where one player gets a backhander to the head another gets a bruised larynx?

I suspect the AFL umpires are going to take a very very close look at Mr Nthmond in the coming weeks.
