Too much talk from last week and i was worried we would get ahead of ourselves which i think we did. Still not quite there with the big boys and a lot of work to do to be a genuine top 4 team. Was shown up tonight by a even professional outfit who don't rely on superstars but even contributors.
Rely too much on our big forwards and need more avenues to goal and a better spread as we are too predictable.
Not sure what voss was thinking playing the useless number 14. Serious wtf. I like voss but his persistence with a bloke that provides nothing is looking bad on many fronts imo. And starting kennedy as a sub was another call that smacks of arrogance.have another 2 hard matches ahead and play like tonight and we wont win either.
If we think we can just rely on our talls to get it done it wont happen. Lets see how much we have improved or if we are still a bit off the best teams
Media are making this one sound like we will win comfortably. Degoey is a big loss no doubt but we still have troops out in the back half and need to pay very careful attention to Elliott Hill and co. They still have majority of their flag team in and imo this is a 50/50 game and Voss talking tough in the presser and at selection wont count for anything once the ball is bounced.
Reckon they will be loving the underdog tag in this.
Has all the hall marks of a upset and we cannot afford a slow start against this mob.
Im very worried about the pies pace next week. They also love to run in waves and i hope voss can devise a gameplan to make it difficult for them. While the cats are faster on the outside we had no plan and no structure at all to slow them down. If we cant counter it next week will be a similar result.
Despite poor conversion and umpiring going against us i thought Scott out coached Voss and we had no answers to counter the play. Used Hawkins as a decoy and burnt us on the rebound with outside run and as a result when they went inside they had space to work into. As they are so clinical when they have time and space we were always going to be up against it.
We love it in tight and contested and killed them in the middle but once the game was in play we couldnt go with them on the rebound and they made us pay everytime.
Think we need to cool the jets on the idea we can play 2 rucks most weeks. Pitto had his best game for the club and contributed around the ground which is out of the box for him as he is generally only effective as a bullocking tap ruckman and does sfa around the game. Last week was the perfect game but its one out of how many?
TDK was ultra effective as a forward and snagged 3 and should have had 4.
My point is both played blinders and the game was on a dry track. Wont work every week and personally i prefer going in with the one tall in TDK.
Ideally I hope last week becomes a regular occurrence as its so difficult for the opposition to play against it but i need to see it as good as last week again and again before im convinced.
This performance reinforces that we are the real deal and if we play anywhere close to our best we will go very close this year. Our lesser lights are now genuine contributors and our stars and there is now a few of them are match winners. Really believe if we have a decent run injury wise later in the year we may just add another cup in the cabinet at PP.
Replacing Cerra (a strong both-ways midfielder) with Pitto was dumb - not that Pitto played badly but it upset team balance.
It also reduced TDK's opportunity to influence the game and kept McKay from having a run on the ball, thereby lessening his opportunity to influence the game.
