Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rnd 20- Carlton v Bulldogs -Post Match Autopsy
With Port's loss we had everything to play for.
It was the insipid nature of the capitulation that is most disturbing.
We were weighed measured and found wanting...."big time".

It's not like these guys don't have the ability.
What they lack is the desire...yet the same playing group have displayed that desire in the past.
What is wrong?

Supporters have not given up on the season, the players have!

There is also something rotten in Denmark, anyone who has played football for any length of time can see it in the on field efforts. It stands out like a sore thumb, and has nothing to do with the coach.

Cohesion is zero, sacrifice is zero, support is zero and care is zero.

The players do not care, like or respect each other, they are a bunch of individuals. There is no team bonding!

Kreuzer is a bloody good footballer playing in an average team, Warnock, Casboult, Rowe and Hampson are spuds who wouldn't get a game anywhere but Carlton.

Unfortunately for us, that is quite true although if the media are to be believed, Hampson does attract some interest from the others clubs.

That is because as a ruck Hampson is good enough.

Look at our list, we have;
 - Walker playing backline after being borderline AA as a forward.
 - Yarran playing nowhere anybody knows.
 - Hendo playing forward after being in A Grade form as a defender.
 - Simpson a first class wing is playing in defense.
 - McLean a grunt midfielder playing on a wing.

We take players who are good enough at AFL level and try to turn them into something they are not. If Cooney had been at Carlton we would have him as a KPD by now!

EB1/LP... that became crystal this arvo. Sad, but true. I watched Meat this arvo and he does and would offer more than Rowey and 206.

Baggers, 15 years ago 206 would have been a superstar, if he could influence the game like Sandilands he still would be. But having a bloke get twice the critical stats of an opponent yet be clearly beaten is a massive tell. If Kreuzer, Hampson or Casboult had 48 taps our midfield would have smashed the Bulldogs.

Warnock needs trading out....I prefer Hampson who at least can take the odd mark and contest at ground level.
They're both duds, until we face the facts with our list and stop pumping up spuds we are going nowhere.
You can't replace them all in one pre-season, and keeping the zero value players because they collect some stats is just brainless.

Agree...Warnock is a dinasour and while Rowe gave effort today he had no imapact on the game at all and Casboult deserves a run.....I think hwile Rowe has another year to go he is destined for backup material only. Warnock needs trading out....I prefer Hampson who at least can take the odd mark and contest at ground level.

As much as Kreuzer tries hard he lacks polish, but he is young and works as hard as anyone on the list.

Hampson makes mistakes, but at least he wins some physical stuff other than just some hit outs.

Casboult might not ruck well but he can clunk marks.

All three do stuff that influences the outcome of the game.

Trade out Rowe and Warnock, unfortunately for Rowe he gives us nothing the others don't already offer. Warnock is just a giant diversion from the realities of modern football.

The value of Warnock diminishes every time the lad takes the field. Some will get sucked in by the stats, even his coaches it seems. 48 hit outs, 6 kicks, 2 tackles.

But at 206cm it is the zero marks that hurts us, opposition teams do not even bother to stand him. At stoppages Minson rucked and roved while Warnock watched on. I am sick of seeing it, for someone his size he is pure poo, and anyone who defends him is a joke!

Minson got half the hit outs and was twice the player!

I love Rowe's effort but he is not up to it!

I suspect the Poms will panic and makes changes, if it wasn't for the weather they were forked last test match!

If we win one over there, the Poms are going to hold the Ashes for the shortest period in the history of cricket!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 20: Carlton V Bulldogs (Pre-Game)
Just realised Army playing his 100th game. Congrats to him, didnt realise he had racked up that many.

And his last 6 have been arguably his worst.......

That assessment might be a tad emotive and subjective I suspect, i.e. it does not appear to be supported by fact in that it is not arguable that they have been his worst or if all of them have even been bad!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Marc Murphy launches a defence of his season and vows to break free of tags
What's there to not understand about Yarran? He's not playing HBF. Don't you mean you don't understand why we've adopted this method and Yazz isn't playing off half back?

I never stated Yarran was playing off the HBF, and yes the rest of what you wrote is what I mean!

So the question becomes a chicken and egg scenario. Is Yarran not off HBF because of his form slump, or is his form slump because he is not off the HBF?

The Sports Desk / Re: Ashes Controversy - Poms Tape Bats To Avoid Hotspot
Wouldn't want to be given out LBW after edging onto your pads.
Spot on, hot spot on even!

The silicone tapes and coatings are a doubled edged sword, or bat for that matter.

The first time one of these cheating blokes gets given out edging the ball into their pads, assuming with no hot spot showing, those tapes and coatings will be off like Paris Hilton's knickers!

There is / was a high speed video/image/sound analysis method that allegedly out performed Hawkeye, Hot Spot, Snicko and just about every other method. It could even adjudicate no-balls in real time, and it was smart enough to learn from it's mistakes if any of it's decisions got over-ridden by a third umpire resulting in it getting better over time.

But it was not developed by the owners of the TV networks and no MCC stakeholders were shareholders. In the long term it threatened the status of umpires, and some parties didn't like that. FFS, it would be incorruptible!

As a result I believe the company that developed it has now withdrawn the product from that market segment and restricts sales to security for governments and the military. It may be watching and identifying you right now!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Marc Murphy launches a defence of his season and vows to break free of tags
We're effectively one man down defensively and Judd isn't good enough to tag now anyway. I do see the point you're trying to make though but perhaps would be more effective with a more talented midfield.

I don't agree, I think one reason our midfield is on the slide is because it has gone too far in the tagging and negating direction and not maintained enough focus on itself and what it can do in attack.

I'd rather see a few of them get cut loose to see what they can do, they should have learned that effort is required both ways by now but we seem stuck in defensive balance. Our midfield is no longer feared as an attacking tool, MM's emphasis seems to be running off HB which is why I struggle to understand the form slump of Yarran.

If, like us, you only have one or two genuine mids you are cooked.

It's why the Bombers wont get anywhere in finals. Tag Jobe, job done.
It's why the Eagles went from world beaters to cooked when Judd and Cousins left.

It used to be you could get away with 2-4 mids, but that just won't cut it now. Must have 6 quality runner/ball users rotating through there.

We are 4 mids short .

Agree....now that Judd is on the slide , it only leaves Murphy and we need another 3 -4 quality mids....maybe Graham and Bell might step up if we give them opportunities to learn.

I would argue we have seen Gibbs and Bell step up already. Buckley will be in there eventually as well, and over the last couple of weeks there have been signs from Curnow he has another gear if someone can put him in it!

Bell is a victim of the rookie rules, and nobody knows why Gibbs isn't being played in the midfield.

Our other major mid is the one nobody ever remembers, Kreuzer. If he had a half decent player to give him a chop out of the ruck he would go to another level all together, especially at ground level.

I think it's time 1AW was given some center square work to get done. He looks to have the body, speed and acceleration. Whether he has the quick hands and smarts in that situation is another issue all together. I hate seeing potentially our best ball winners standing opposition forwards.
