Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Commiserations AFL 2020 Rd 15: Carlton vs GWS
Some perspective.  Remember 9thmond?

It took them years of being middle of the road to becoming a powerhouse.

The old two steps forward one step backwards, and sometimes one step forward, two steps backward.

Our list profile was absolute rubbish 5 years ago.  In my eyes it's better now.  Some of SoS's picks and trades won't (and some certainly haven't) come off.  That's standard practice.

I've mentioned a few times previously, that after doing all that trading and drafting, a time will come when some of our high hopes will not make it, and they will exit the club.  And then it's time to target very specific players (Tom Papley/ Zac Williams etc...) to replace them.

Teague has had 1 preseason with the club...

Charlie Curnow has missed the entire year and some...

We are getting more players to the 50 - 100 game bracket.  Importantly, playing together ...

We have more developing youth coming through, and it only takes 2 or 3 of them to step up...

Please, please, please land 2 or 3 good/very good ready to go players via trade/draft/free agency...

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pre game Discussion Round 15 Carlton vs GWS at Metricon.
Agree... I think TDK can consider himself unlucky and Brackets can consider himself lucky that he comes straight in to replace a kid with promise - you'd better deliver McGovern.

It was either TDK or Cas out.  Pitto to be number one ruck, and one of the other to be backup ruck and fwd.  Cas doesn't do much as pure fwd, and TDK not yet better than Cas.  TDK is almost there - almost taking important marks, almost getting free's for arm chops (that was a disgraceful miss by the umps at the end of Q1 or 2 v pies).  As a pure forward I have Gov ahead of TDK & Cas.

I hope, being by far our biggest game since 2013, we don't $hit the bed.

nailed it Laj.

easily the most important game for a number of years.  nothing is more important than beating collingwood to setup a run at the finals.  but we have a horrible recent history of showing some promise, getting some respect and a shot at finals, and then crapping our pants on the big stage.  especially when the media blows smoke up our butts and the boys get a bit ahead of themselves.

if we've turned the corner for real this time, we'll beat them (only just if they come to play for real), or we'll pants them.  Either way, we'll win this one.  And I don't care if it's by a point.

I'd like to see one or both of Kennedy and Dow in.  Not sure who goes out.  Dow was my pick for surprise packet this year, which wasn't looking good early, and then he got injured and missed a heap, so looked even worse.  Even so, I think he'll play 2 or 3 of the last games, and hope he'll show what I hoped he'd show.  Ya know.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pre game Discussion Round 13 Suns v Carlton in Darwin.
It usually does, but doesn’t seem too bad at the moment.
I was hoping to get back online a bit earlier but my wife dragged me out to dinner 🤷🏼‍♂️ But at 9:45pm local it’s 88% humidity and 25 deg.
I think the suns will handle the humidity fairly well, I was amazed at how hard they used to rotate when their seconds played NT Thunder in the NEAFL up here.

I lived in Darwin for 6 years and 'fondly' remember early on I had a flat tyre before leaving for work.  7am I jack up the car and replace the wheel.  7:30 I peel off my soaked clothes and I'm back in the shower and looking for a fresh set of clothes.

Also played footy up there for 5 seasons.  The season is switched around up there and you play in the summer, which is brutal when it's humid.  I'd start hydrating the night before, and then all morning before the game, and after the game on a Saturday we'd head to the pub to rehydrate.  Most weeks I wouldn't take a leak until 10pm or something stupid like that.

Has been 15 years or so since I was up there, so can't remember how early it starts getting uncomfortable, but I know it gets really nasty the closer you get to christmas.  From memory shouldn't be too bad in August.  Should be quite nice.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Pondering: AFL 2020 Rd 9: Carlton vs Hawthorn
that was pretty stanky fer sure.  i'm gonna say just the one positive thing.  even the best teams put out a stinker every so often.  that was certainly one of ours.  almost to a man.

i agree with TDK & Fisher coming in.

willo has looked shaky for a few weeks, but i'm pretty confident he'll get better, has lots of tools and always looks interested.

setterfield, kennedy, newnes, sps, cuningham all had their worst games of the year, sadly all on the same day.  slaughtered in the midfield.  crippa tried to break his form slump but botched it.

i just think the hawks wanted it more tonight.  anyone who says otherwise has a point, but i disagree.  they were stung as i mentioned pregame, and had an injection of 4 class players.  i saw this one coming.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pre game postulations: AFL 2020 Rd 9: Carlton vs Hawthorn
1.  The Hawks will be spitting fire.  They've been under the blowtorch for a while now and will be targeting us a circuit breaker, which in the past has resulted in us getting a first rate flogging.  Expect a gritty, congested game, and I think they'll have a got at trying to slice us open when they get a chance, even if that's not how they usually play.
2.  Moore was shizen last week, but I disagree with picking a bloke for 1 game and then dropping him, so he gets another go to show us what he's got.  We'll have a better idea about him in a few hours.
3.  Can't wait to see TDK in the seniors again, but Moore gets one more chance.
4.  I like that Fisher can't bust his way back in yet.  I think selection pressure might finally be in our favour, and I think it will be a reason we get the choccies.  There's blokes queueing up for a spot, longer than the lines for covid testing.  This fear of being easily replaced will be the reason we win.  Just...
5.  I barracked for Freo when they played the Hawks in granny a few years back.  I hate the Hawks.  Go Blues.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: KAYO
I sometimes like to wait half an hour after the coverage starts when watching games on Kayo.  Then I start from the beginning and can fast forward the ads or crappy pregame segments if i wanna.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2020 Rd 5: Carlton vs St. Kilda
random thoughts

yeah ok - a more athletic ruck might be useful.  Pitto was jumped all over tonight, but battled away still.

we got out run and gunned early again.  need better contested ball winners from the get go.  crippa doesn't always start so hot (always finishes hard though) - but we need more mongrel around the ball, especially early.

newnes doesn't do enough and i didn't want to pot him until i'd seen a few games.  i'd be giving LO'B a few games to see how he's coming along.

philps went from 5 to 9 touches, and did a couple of nice things.  he needs to go back and develop.

a shame fish got sick - we needed his pace and tenacity around the pill early.

jack martin is a good player.  a shame he didn't have his kicking boots on tonight.

Levi, H, Eddie & Gov had stinkers.  H I can't pot because he simply hasn't had any continuity, but is not in form.

Liam, Liam, Liam.  Does so many things right.  But NEVER switch across the ground.  please.

I agree with someone above about Simmo & Ed being very close to the end.  Both wonderful servants, but you can't go on forever.

Willo you can see has been out of the game for a while.  he'll get better.

Doc being tagged was an obvious move, and it worked a treat.

I think Jones should have played on King - Weitering couldn't get up high enough to spoil, but probably broke even by the end of the game.

SPS has not had a good year.  i dunno about him as a back.

cunners did not back it up.

setterfield played ok, but didn't do enough.

all of the above negative comments due to not going hard enough early enough.  switch it on and things can change next week.

I'm not expecting Doc to have the freedom he has had the last few weeks with a fwd playing a defensive role on him.
Before doc did his knees he played like that every week and was AA. I'm amazed at how well he has returned.  Pure class.  I also suspect teams will start thinking seriously about trying to curb his influence but I also think he's good enough to win out most weeks.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Party!: AFL 2020 Rd 3: Carlton vs Geelong
He might be back next year. Teague likes older, reliable players, and he could be going cheap, so you never know..............

that's the story of the night for me, clearly something in the tweet...

i wouldn't blame him for preferring to be at the blues right now.  he clearly wasn't all that keen on going back home in the first place, but i can't see how the family situation could have changed that much.

would he want to come back?  would we want him?  would he get a game?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Party!: AFL 2020 Rd 3: Carlton vs Geelong
Can we do better than them?...Matt has been AA and been in the top 5 for possies in the comp and Brad had a very good season last year. Appreciate they have had a slow start to this season but have still been in the Crows better players....something rotten in Adelaide when Walker continues to get games and others are made scape goats for the clubs lack of form.
Put them both at new club with less off field problems and they would do very well IMO and we might get them cheaper given what happening with the Crows..

I watch a few games of footy, and not many crows games tbh, but whenever I do i hardly notice the crouch boys.  maybe that's just the type of players they are, unobtrusive.  if one fell in our laps for not much then sure, but i'd never chase them as big trade targets  and give up much for them.  I dunno, they just don't impress me much.
