Re: 2015 Jim Park Voting

Last round was ordinary in a lot of ways, but we were very brave and could have won the game with better kicking and some good luck. I was afraid we would have few voters, but that does not seem to be the case at all. This time last year only 7 people voted and they were not happy. This time, we had 16 voters.
The rating was lower: after all, we lost. However, the rating (7.77) represented a C-, which compares well to our efforts earlier in the season.
Thank you to everyone who spent the time to vote.

The Votes: Round 14: Carlton vs. Western Bulldogs
Tuohy, Zach 357
Murphy, Marc 233
Armfield, Dennis 129
Graham, Nick 121
Jamison, Michael 119
Buckley, Dylan 61
Cripps, Patrick 51
Bell, Tom 41
White, Simon 22
Simpson, Kade 19
Curnow, Edward 5
Holman, Nick 5
Everitt, Andrejs 2

There wasn't a big spread of votes this time. Almost everyone had Tuohy as our best. 3rd, 4th and 5th ratings were very close. It is the first time this season, and I think the 1st time ever, that Zac Tuohy was our BOG. An impressive effort.

5 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
4 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
3 - Warnock, Robert (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

It is very close at the top at the moment between Cripps and Murphy, with only a handful of votes separating them out. Bell and Docherty remain in 3rd and 4th spots.
We still have a lot of very good players who are well down the leader board. Hopefully that can change as the season progresses.

So, what is Yarran's problem this year? Someone said they knew what 'ails' him....?

I wish I knew. His form has been reasonable, but not outstanding. He has been brought close to goal as often as the opposition can manage it: it reduces his effectiveness.

This was probably our most ordinary game under Johnny Barker, and  pretty uninspiring games all up. We lost Gibbs for the rest of the year and Armfield for at least 4 weeks (probably more - breaks don't heal overnight). The umpiring was diabolical and cost us far too much. Our skills were ordinary at best in some freezing conditions.
I am happy that so few games are played under those conditions.

We managed 12 voters this week, still an improvement over this time last year, even though we lost. Voting this week will be interesting. I do not have pay TV so I won't be seeing any of the game. I doubt I will be voting, as my only way to work things out will come from following the statistics and they can be misleading. Hopefully those with pay TV or those lucky enough to be at the game can give us an idea of who really deserved a vote.

This round's rating was 7.08, just over a D. This is a reasonable representation of our effort.

The Votes: Round 15: Carlton vs. Richmond
Kreuzer, Matthew 204
Murphy, Marc 201
Gibbs, Bryce 177
Tuohy, Zach 156
Buckley, Dylan 109

Cripps, Patrick 12

Tutt, Jason 6
Holman, Nick 3

I think the results say something about our night where our best player (Kreuzer, in his 1st BOG in years) was actually beaten in the ruck by former Blue Hampson. That may have you scratching your heads, but it is a good measure of how we went.
Murphy managed 2nd place, a few votes ahead of Gibbs (a good effort on his return from suspension, especially when he was crippled in the last quarter with injury). Zac Tuohy and Dylan Buckley continued their good recent form.
Cripps had a quiet game for him.

Murphy snuck ahead of Cripps, but things are close at the top. Nor is there much space between Bell and Docherty in 3rd and 4th places.
Judd remains in 5th spot almost half a season since his demise.
We have played 9 debutants this season, with a 10th, Brad Walsh, getting his go tonight. Of those 9 players 7 of them have managed votes so far. Tutt leads them with 128 votes, even with his significant problems (being unable to hold a tackle against anyone older than 10 years of age, for example).

Sorry this has taken so long: I have been sick for the past week and I was not able to touch the family desk top, which had this (and other important files). I wasn't allowed to contaminate the computer.  ::) (On the other hand, I could contaminate my laptop as much as I liked...  ;D ;D)
As I didn't see any of the game I found it difficult to tell anything about it; which is why I didn't vote.

Voting was down a bit, but that is no real surprised with the game in WA and not everyone having access to pay TV.

A Rating of 7.59 was not too bad in the circumstances. representing a bit more than a D+, almost a C-. Much better than how we fared against Hawthorn.  :-[ :-[

Cripps, Patrick 6
Simpson, Kade 6

A very small spread of votes suggested:
(a) I was not voting (as I spread the votes around).
(b) Not a large number of significant contributors. Very few players received minor votes.
I guess that makes sense when we do so little scoring.
Simon White lead the votes with an excellent game against Brownlow favourite Fyffe. Other defenders Buckley and Docherty also shone through. Tom Bell and Ed Curnow appear to have been our better mids (with Murphy).

With another quieter game, Cripps has fallen back a little in 2nd place behind Murphy, whose form lately has been much improved. 3rd and 4th place holders Docherty and Bell are now within one good game of overtaking Cripps. Their form this year has been really positive.
Juddy is still in 6th place, nearly half a season after he had to retire. That says a lot about the lack on contributions from our 'better players'. But, as Gibbs was finally finding form his year was terminated by injury and he has not been alone.

I was glad to miss this game. It was hard enough to tolerate on the TV. Our worst ever defeat. Says it all.

The rating of 6.08 was actually not close to our worst for the year. It represents an E. In some ways it shows how far behind we are at the moment, and we are a long way behind the best in the competition at this point. However, it also shows how under manned we are. We have a lot of players unavailable due to injury. So much so that we really sent out the Northern Blues. It isn't going to get better either.

Not a great result, not a great crowd and not a great voter turnout. However, we did play half a game, instead of no part of the game. So this was an improvement.

There were 12 voters this week who rated the performance a reasonable 7.29, close to a D+. A reasonable effort for a team that looks more like the Northern Blues each week.

It may have been the smallest Carlton vs. Collingwood crowd for ages, but the game was actually pretty close for most of the day. We were a little unlucky to lose, but with what we could put on the field, we were pretty good.
Still, we are a LONG way from where we would like to be.

It appeared that the voting public thought we were somewhat better: 19 people voted, which was better than last year (where we actually won). The overall rating was 7.72, which is almost a C-, our best rating for quite a while.

The Votes: Round 19: Carlton vs. Collingwood
Murphy, Marc 380
Cripps, Patrick 311
Everitt, Andrejs 142

Cripps and Murphy were the standouts, with excellent displays which attracted a lot of votes. Everitt had his best game for ages, which Simpson and Kreuzer were also good contributors. Still not a huge spread of contributors, but we did lose.

Considerable progress indeed.
However, it is still a real worry that Chris Judd is 7th presently. Remember, he played relatively little of the season.
It is an even bigger worry that Walker and Menzel both have less than 100 votes. That Jamo and Yarran have just cleared the 100 mark also describes how little they have been able to effect our play this season.

Cripps, Docherty and Bell have been the improvers this season. They have all made big strides and sit comfortably in our top 5. They will probably sit in the top 5 for the John Nicholls' Medal.

After another appalling effort, the effort to vote must be extremely difficult. Thank you to all those who bothered.
I could not vote: I did not see anything of the game at all, not a single highlight (or lowlight). I am unwilling to vote when I do not know what I am voting about. I am sure I am not alone.
We had 5 less voters this round compared to last round, and there were plenty of reasons why the voters would rather not have participated.

The rating: 6.17. That is poor by any standards, representing little over an E. We did have 1 good quarter, I guess.

With 3 games to go and the likelihood of good performances pretty low, Murphy looks to have a winning lead, from Cripps, a margin of about 600. Still, that can change, especially if Murphy gets injured (why not? Everyone else is getting injured).
Cripps is a 1000 ahead of 3rd placed Docherty, who leads Bell by 49. Placed 3 to 5 are still up for grabs.

Judd is still in 6th place and he hasn't played for half a season.
Hendo has ended at 423, well below the leaders. He is presently at 15th spot.

Carrots is presently in 13th spot. He could move up a little in his final 3 games.

Of the new players this season Tutt leads with 120. he is followed by Boekhorst (36) and Jaksch (16). It was not a great year for new chums. Considering how may players we have tried this year, that is a remarkably poor sign.

This was a most unexpected and joyous result that shows that Melbourne are still a long way behind us. Incredible!
The rating, 8.81, was the 2nd highest for the year, presenting a C+. It shows how poor we have been this year, because we didn't really play that well against the Demons.

The Votes: Round 21: Carlton vs. Melbourne
Cripps, Patrick 392
Kreuzer, Matthew 362
Walker, Andrew 159
Murphy, Marc 127

Jamison, Michael 24
Tuohy, Zach 22
Rowe, Sam 17
Tutt, Jason 17
Boekhorst, Blaine 10
Whiley, Mark 10
Bell, Tom 5

This was Walker's 1st top 4 finish for the year. Whiley got his first votes. Kreuzer again got a lot of votes and played well even though he lost the ruck duels by a long way.

The progressives:
3476 - Murphy, Marc (0)
3149 - Cripps, Patrick (0)

Cripps might just overtake Murphy, as Murphy won't score again this season. Whiley got his first votes. Juddy was moved down to 7th, but that he is still in the top 10 having played so little really tells a lot about our year. If we do lose Tom Bell, then we can claim a decent swap or a 1st rounder for him. For his faults, he is well entrenched in the top 5 and still getting votes. he could end up 3rd yet, depending on how we play in the next 2 weeks. The other possible exiting players have shown absolutely nothing.
Of those in their 1st year with us, Tutt has come out on top so far: a big surprise to some because his issues are many and obvious. However, he has got votes on a number of occasions, while Whiley. et al, have struggled to get a mention more than once. According to Malthouse, Jones was going to really make a mark this year. He has a dozen votes and would not have that many more for the NBs.

Not much action on the voting front for Round 22. Granted that the game and the effort were quite forgettable, but a large number of our usual voters didn't bother. In fact, only 10 bothered. I'm worrying for next Round, as I won't be among the voters: I won't see or hear the game at all.
The rating was not high: 6.5. Not quite a D-. Describes our effort reasonably well.

As the penultimate round, the votes of this week will have a large bearing on the result of the Jim park Medal.

With one round to go, the result is a forgone conclusion. Murphy didn't play, so he cannot catch Cripps. Tom Bell has 3rd place sown up, as Docherty went off for an operation. Carrots should move up significantly in the last round.
So, congratulations, Patrick Cripps, winner of the 2015 Jim Park Medal.
Final results will be determined in a few days when the few people who bother voting this week put in their 2 cents worth.

Again, thank you to everyone who spent the time to vote. Without you, this award would be meaningless.

PS: Purple names were unavailable this round. More were unavailable for the final round.

Not a huge amount of interest in this game, as success was a very low probability event. However, we improved quite a lot from last time, with a much weaker side. Still, we need to beat the Hawthorn and Sydneys and Geelongs if we are to make an impression. We haven't been able to beat these sides for years.

I was a little surprised at the rating: 6.36. It was lower than last week and I thought we were worse against GWS. However, that is the way it was voted. 6.36 represents approximately an E+.

There were 12 voters this week, down 5 from this time last year. Considering how we have been, I am happy to see 12 people vote. Hopefully we can attract more voters next year.

My thanks to everybody who voted this year. Without your contributions, and the time you spend making them, this award would not be possible. Hopefully our performances in 2016 will attract more people to record their opinions. We do have a lot of strength in our diversity of opinions.

The Votes: Rd 23: Carlton vs. Hawthorn
Carrazzo, Andrew 307
Curnow, Edward 217
Cripps, Patrick 148
Everitt, Andrejs 74
Tutt, Jason 74
Tuohy, Zach 48
Kreuzer, Matthew 42
Bell, Tom 34
Rowe, Sam 8

Again, the votes were quite concentrated this week. Only 9 players garnered any votes from the voting public. That suggests that a lot of our boys didn't do a lot. Alas, statistics appear to verify that result.
Andrew Carrazzo bowed out with a BOG performance. Congratulations. Carrots hasn't managed these numbers for quite a while with his injury concerns. Ed Curnow was a very clear 2nd with 217 votes, while Patrick Cripps managed a respectable 148 votes.

Congratulations to Patrick Cripps in winning his 1st Jim Park medal. Hopefully the first of many. Cripps managed 3707 to comfortably pass Marc Murphy with 3476.
These 2 guys were the standouts in a poor season, where injury robbed of class from the very first minute, way back in April.

In 3rd spot was Tom Bell, over 1600 votes behind Murphy, and 1900 votes behind Cripps. Still, Bell's was an excellent effort. Bell managed to lead Docherty by less than 100 votes. Docherty's 4th placing, like Bell's 3rd placing, was a huge improvement over anything previous.

Next were Simpson and Kreuzer, separated by only 3 votes. They were over 200 votes ahead of Ed Curnow.

Some huge disappointments in 2015 were (in no particular order)
Robert Warnock (3 votes for the year)
David Ellard (2 votes for the year)
Troy Menzel (89 votes)
Chris Yarran (125 votes included 0 since Round 8)
Michael Jamison (159 votes including 0 for the first 12 rounds)

35 players managed votes in 2015, compared to 33 last year. Last year only 1 player got under 10 votes. This year there were 3 players.
40 players played senior football for us in 2015, with Dillon Viojo-Rainbow and Cat B rookie Fraser Russell being the only 2 players who could have played but didn't.

Last year we had 4 players get more than 2000 votes. This year there were just 2.

Cripps managed our top votes in 7 different games for the year, while finishing 2nd on 3 occasions . Murphy Managed 5 BOGs and 6 2nd places.
