Post by: Gointocarlton on February 21, 2017, 07:35:31 pm
So we've signed the son of Braddles, I see we have also signed Michael Romero. Any relation to Jose? Bloody looks like him thats for sure.

Mid 2016 Romero was touted as a FS pick, slipped a long way in the rankings.

7 goals to Jaskch in two games. Might get himself a gig in round 1.

Ditto. We are so bereft of tall talent, we simply need him to fire. I don't want to see yet another player bomb out. We have enough.

Does seem KJ has been reasonable in consecutive NB practice. The big question is, can he take the leap to AFL this year. I wish him well. If he wants it bad enough, it appears he has the natural talent. Body and mind must be 'in' synergistically.

Looks like the Jones boy got a bit of the ball too. How did he use it?

He could take the leap to play AFL ok. Just a matter if he can take the leap to play as a Carlton forward. That's an extra leap again.

Yes, thats a very good point. I do feel for our forwards. We showed signs of better forward entry in jlt last night. Better in terms of frequency and quality. If this continues to improve KJ will get his chance - minus the ball and chain ^-^ I'd love to see him have a breakout year and cement his spot, and kick start his career. He's still young enough.

Hey boundaryrider. I looked on our CFC website on the "Vfl Aflw" tab. Here's the team that was named. Not sure if it was the final team.

TEAMS
Northern Blues VFL squad: Cameron Barrett, Blaine Boekhorst*, Zac Fisher*, Jesse Glass-McCasker*, Sam Glover, Nick Graham*, Kristian Jaksch*, Liam Jones*, Tim Jones, Kane Keppel, Patrick Kerr*, Matthew Korcheck*, Chris McCabe, Angus Milham, Cameron O’Shea, Fraser Pearce, Luke Russell, Sam Russell, Ciaran Sheehan*, Marcus Stavrou, Dyson Stevens, Glenn Strachan, Liam Sumner*, Tom Williamson*

* denotes a Carlton-listed player.

I agree. If he can stay on the park, he provides a 'tough' option. I think his stature and physical maturity are amongst his strengths. If I'm correct though, he'll only play in our 1's if he gets elevated. Lots of our supporters would like us to have another 'bull' to support Cripps. Sheehan I think is a defender.

Watson played for East Fremantle in the WAFL last season ... and made the WAFL state squad.

Evidently Matthew Watson was signed up to East Fremantle by none other than our own Rob Wiley. He's contracted until end of this year. Good luck to him.

Yes - he gave an interview after he was delisted, stating that he thought the decision was fair, and that he should've worked a lot harder, and regretted not doing so.

Learning a lesson after the horse has bolted. Another Fev.

Personally, Wiley if he had wanted to stay would have been the only bloke other than Barker that I would have kept.

He put the club and it's requirements first, and he is a straight shooter.

Listening to him talk post match during his short and somewhat hobbled stint as coach he exhibited good modern football knowledge and terrific media management skills. It wasn't his fault he had a list built to succeed in the 90s.

I agree with that.

While paying out coaches is an expensive exercise, the club would have found the money if Bolton wanted Barker gone.  That suggests to me that Bolton was impressed with what Barker (and Capuano) have to offer.

Capuano is still a bit of a mystery to me. I haven't seen much from our ruck setups that fill me with joy, although I concede we tend to equal or win clearances in most games so he must be doing something right.

Mmm.........I must've missed something along the way.

He took over when the team was 1-7 or 1-8 - whilst I acknowledge that even Clarko could not have improved the situation much, I did not see much to inspire me, apart from moments like the Port game.

His media work was ok I guess, but overall I found him rather nebbish.

He missed out on getting the senior gig with us, and missed out with another team as well I think.

I'm not sure he would be missed all that much to be honest. But that's an outsider's opinion.

Capuano is purely a development coach these days, does a bit of work with our international recruiting also. As far as I'm aware, he has nothing to do with our ruck setups and hasn't done for a while now. I think we'll learn more about him and his abilities over the next couple of seasons with all the kids coming through.

You shouldn't judge Barker's value as an assistant coach based on how clubs evaluated him as a potential senior coach, they are two very different skill sets. And looking at results during his tenure makes no sense, we were not in the business of trying to win despite the public front.

While Barker was caretaker he displayed plenty that makes him a first class 2nd in command, someone who can advise and guide the players through all sorts of scenarios. My concern is Bolton was a first class 2nd in command as well, will he be a first class senior coach?

However, Bolton has coached a club in his own-right before coming to AFL.

The Box Hill game is round 19 and we'll be long gone by then.

The NB's aren't playing at Geelong this season and the Werribee game is being played at Princes Park so there won't be any VFL action in my new neighbourhood this season.  Perhaps we might catch up in 2018.

I haven't studied both fixtures but, if there's an opportunity to attend a double-header, I may yet see you at the NBs.
