I'd like to give Jones more, all he needs to do now is turn some of those clear punches into marks and his game will go through the roof!

If he can keep going, he will turn a lot of those into marks. He had a lot of confidence knocked out of him and it will take a while to get it all back. His confidence in his kicking is still not high: he looked to give it off every time.

Team:   C
I cannot give a higher score when we lose. And we did. We didn’t have enough maturity when it counted. The Weagles got all but 2 of their goals in red time.
Still, after last week, this was the massive improvement. Also we had basically the Northern Blues out there.

Votes:
[3]   Patrick Cripps
[2]   Kade Simpson
[2]   Liam Jones
[1.5]   Sam Rowe
[1.5]   Harry McKay
[1.5]   Zac Fisher
[1]   Dale Thomas
[1]   Andrew Phillips
[0.5]   Charlie Curnow
[0.5]   Ed Curnow
[0.5]   Paddy Dow

Explanations:
This sort of effort is the sort that makes my voting always look deflated. These guys deserve more than what they get. Compare to last week when few, if any, deserved a mention.
[3]   Patrick Cripps:   What a game! 11 tackles and 35 possessions.
[2]   Kade Simpson:   After a very quiet game last week, Simmo was back to his best and was inspirational in defence.
[2]   Liam Jones:   Jones’ best game for the year by some margin, he played his game and took Darling to the cleaners.
[1.5]   Sam Rowe:   I didn’t think he was ready, but he proved me wrong. He killed Kennedy in his 1st game for the year.
[1.5]   Harry McKay:   6 marks in the 1st quarter and 4 goals from the game, including 2 brilliant goals in the last quarter. He has a lot of improving to do, but he did very well.
[1.5]   Zac Fisher:   One of Zac’s more consistent games, the sort we will see more of in years to come (I hope!).
[1]   Dale Thomas:   Particularly good early, he really gave his all.
[1]   Andrew Phillips:   I didn’t think Phillips was quite ready either, but he did a fantastic job and took a spectacular mark. Well done!
[0.5]   Charlie Curnow:   A bit quieter than he has been, but he was a thorn in the Weagles’ side all night.
[0.5]   Ed Curnow:   Very solid, particularly early.
[0.5]   Paddy Dow:   Paddy ran out of gas somewhat, but he clearance work was good.

Honourable Mentions:
Lachie O’Brien:   Perhaps not quite ready physically, Lachie did some very good things and had his best game so far.
Sam Kerridge:   Not as many possessions as I would like, but a solid effort and a very physical one that helped those around him. He had a job and he really stuck to it.
Levi Casboult:   Also somewhat quieter than he has been, Levi rucked well when he had the opportunity and kept presenting.

Who is Dinny Navaratnam for AFL.com.au and how does he list Casboult as BoG?

A much improved EFFORT - across the board let down by some atrocious mistakes and a lack of awareness when moving forward (not lowering the eyes).

But a massive improvement on the previous three rounds in terms of intensity.

1   O'Brien (liked his effort, intent and left foot - even if it didn't always work)

Not specifically aimed at you Jofo, but I notice so many posters giving Phillips votes for 1/2 a game.

I realise curbing Naitanui' early influence earns him some credit, but in the second half when the game was there to be won Lycett and Naitanui handed Phillips his hat and coat and sent him packing!

Have we become so use to honorable defeats that anyone who plays 1/2 a game gets a bonus?

I gave him 2 votes and I thought he did well for a backup ruckman who could have been slaughtered by one of the better ruck combos going around, I also looked at the centre square clearances and NicNat had 1 to Philips 0....NicNat can be damaging when he gets the footy in that area.....Philips had 8 x 1%ers to NicaNats 7, Philips had 7 tackles to 6 from NN...not bad from a backup ruck.
Overall Philips had 24 hitouts to NN's 26....Lycett probably gave them an edge with his hitouts but I thought Philips did a fair job vs NN and deserved votes as the degree of difficulty was high and he didnt have the support that NN had.....

Must have watched a different game to me LP.....

It wasn't the WCE ruckmen that won them the game, it was our bloody mistakes!  :o

At 1/2-time we almost doubled them in the ruck for clearances and hitouts to advantage, by the end of the game they had almost doubled our match totals. We hardly added a ruck stat in several critical areas after 1/2-Time, and that was mostly Lycett giving them the momentum.

I was at the game and I viewed it from Level 2 of the Northern Stand. There were no commentators or biased influencers around me. I thought Phillips competed very strongly throughout the whole game and I was surprised that he was able to run out the 4 quarters. Much of what he did didn't trouble the statisticians BUT he did make room for Cripps, Dow and Fisher to gather the ball on several occasions. The fact that Natanui wasn't able to dominate was due in part to Phillips' competitiveness.

Not arguing, Naitanui was pretty ordinary against us, he likes jumping over rucks but when he comes up against someone who jumps as high or higher he's just an average ruckmen. When fit Kreuzer has him comfortably covered for game impact. As you mention shepherding, making space, blocking for smalls is far more important than taps or the odd average mark around the ground.

It was Lycett who set the tone for Wet Toast after 1/2 time.

Nic Nat had a quiet game by his standards but he still beat our rucks.
