Main job is defend your man....Essendon asked him to defend and he got upset.
We can't carry too many kick chasers at the expense of defending your man...
You can't let Jaime Elliott on his own all game this week...

Dont fall for the same cr@p line that the media trot out, because their Cheats FC mates fed it to them........  "Saad doesnt defend".   He is actually really good in one on ones.  Yeah, he occasionally gets caught out of position, when he is trying to make the play (but someone else should be covering for him - as he does for others, all the time).    its a myth, started by EFC, and suits the media and others on social media to keep perpetuating it

Tonyo I think our dare and run was there, we just kept giving it to blokes in Brisbane jumpers. Even the commentators said it one point, I think it was a Weiters grubber kick to a running Doc maybe? The idea was there, the kick was poor which resulted in a slight fumble then Brisbane player pouncing to apply pressure and the TO and it went straight back for a goal. Thats demoralising. I just expect better from players of that that experience.

Confidence maybe???

I noticed right from the start of the game the Bears were out to hurt us. They were tackling with intent to hurt and when they won the free kick they certainly told us.
When teams do this physical stuff yeah we might do a bit of push and shove back but it creates perceived pressure and the players panic because they don't want to be tackled harshly and hurt.
We are a NICE team, we have no MONGREL, no one tackles to hurt someone.
You look back to when we were successful, we had all this, Whorethorn played unsocialable, Richmond were dirty.
I'm not saying we go out there and play with high elbows but play angry, play to win, no prisoners. I'm over this nice guy stuff.

Still can't work out the umpiring, they got so many HTB yet we got hardly any. Is it the way we tackle?
Why didn't Harry get a free kick for the whack he copped to the eye. 4 Umpires? WTF were they looking at?
Harry is always being held. Cripps is always being held at stoppages. I thought the 4 ump system was brought in to have extra eyes around contests not divide the ground up into qtrs instead of thirds With each ump sticking to his lane.

The Match committee should be sacked today! Not tomorrow! How many games do we lose and then mention the MC?
We are charlatans, but I thought we did very well last night with a half a playing list made up of VFL standard players.

Agree 100% on the comparisons to Hawks and Tigs - we dont have that ruthlessness

If I see Crippa being held before a stoppage (and then when there was a free pinged for it - it was to Neale!!) or Harry being shoved under the ball in a marking contest (the old Paul Roos trained "tunnel") - i'll scream.

As for the the HTBs - i am sure that the majoirty of the time McCluggage and Dunkley were tackled, they did the old "pretend to punch the ball out" trick, except that it wasnt being held to them, and it was obvious they werent actually trying to get it out.  also saw a few drag the ball in during the tackle - but im not sure we got a HTB all night???

ah well, that was NOT the reason for the loss - but still craps me!

a few have menitoned it on here - but the number of goals they got out the back, just walking into goal must be a real indicator of how poor our d50 structure was....

Lets wait until next week before we hit the panic button

It was their Grand Final and they played like it

First quarter was one of those run-ons a team gets when everyhting is going their way - crowd, confidence, umpires (!!!)

We were actually prettty good in the 2nd and 3rd (and got within 3 goals at one stage) - just couldnt capitalize on it...  as everyone has poitned out - most of that is cause we used our winning of the footy to just bomb it on H & Charlie's heads - this NEEDS to be addressed

Last Q was always going to happen, when we spent our tickets getting back into the game (but didnt manage to get ahead on the scorebaord)

Worries were
- Not being ready for this onslaught
- Defence not standing up (Doc, Gov and an injured Saad dont help)
- Usage of the footy going forward
- Why start TDK in the first few bounces of the game??

I know we lost by 10 goals, but the home town umpiring was a factor (not 10 goals, but still a factor)..... when Cripps is held at EVERY stoppage, when blokes are tackled before they pick up the footy, when Motlop is scragged before the ball even drops to him, in front of goal, when phantom 50s occur, when H and Charlie arent allowed to run at the ball, as they are being impeded at every contest (as well as being tunelled, in the contest).... it does make a difference.    the Crom defintley knew they wou;d be able to get away with a lot in the first game of gather round... and they pushed the limits and got away with it.   it was like a Clarko method!!

As per momentum, I thought Motlop was monstered in the 1st q, he could’ve had 3 frees early but nada…

It was their tactic all over the ground, in the 1st quarter - hold at every stoppage, hold before the ball arrives, and see if the umpires have the guts to pay frees in front of that crowd.....  we know the answer to that...

We have 7 legitimate A-Graders (AA Squad this yr or last yr, or should have been)
- Cripps
- Curnow
- Saad
- Walsh
- Weitering
- McKay
- Docherty

The next rung are pretty bloody good B-Graders
- Cerra
- Hewett
- Kennedy
- Young

The "could be anything, if we can get them fit", rung have a LOT of talent
- Williams
- McGovern
- Martin
- Marchbank
- Cunnigham

The "young blokes with potential" rung, will surely give us a few players
- DeKonning
- Motlop
- Durdin
- Stocker
- Kemp
- OBrien
- Carroll
- Honey

Our "Soldiers" are OK, but probably where we need to improve - but have all shown something at times this year
- Silvagni
- Fisher
- Newman
- Setterfield
- Owies
- Cottrell
- Pittonet
- Boyd

That's 32 players who we can build around.

A bit of luck, a bit of tinkering at the edges, and we have a VERY bright future!!

Walsh, Curnow & Weitering were poor last nite, had they played better it may have been a different result.

Hurt earlier in the year,  coming off 3 years off and hurt earlier in the year.............

100% agree that they were down - but you prob expect that at this time of the year, from them  (Weiters hasnt been right since he came back)

The coaching box also needs looking at, as David King has suggested no extra players behind the ball in those last minutes were costly, all the other teams protecting a lead do it that way and we should have done similar.

Not sure how correct that was - SOJ was sent back for most of the last few mins.  The Melksham mark was 4on2 to our advantage.  Yeah, the numbers at that last contest were even, but that could have been because the spares were otherwise occupied.   King talks a lot and is occasionally on to something, but he does talk out of his backside at times

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 18 2022 Post Game Postulations Carlton vs Geelong
Geelong mids were holding ours before they even got the ball, while theirs managed to get the ball out, somehow or another (not many of these were remotely like legal disposals, but I'm not going there).
Cripps was well held, and I mean that literally.

I really dont understand how this is allowed to keep happening.  Every game that Cripps is "down" - you watch the replay, and see him being held, with 2 hands, off the footy.  he will get 1 or 2 frees, but compared to the 50 times they get away with it, then the tactic works...  bliscavs played well, but jeez he was allowed to just turn and face cripps and do whatever he liked at a number of stoppages.    and the number of times we would gather the footy and be tackled "as we took possession", or was it just a little before....

and, did we get a single HTB all night??  cats players being spun 360 before they disposed, taking a couple of steps but apparently no prior and as mentioned above - just slinging the ball out of a tackle,  all allowed.   again, reputation helps - liam stocker aint umpired the same way as joel selwood
