Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading)
The other example which will get Trump plenty of votes is him raising postal voting being compromised.

Such a simple statement without fact resonates with the public.  They don't bother to think about it themselves, but 'if Trump says it, it must be true' and it could be plausible.

No one has yet worked out a simple rebuttal for these types of statements that stick and have such a wide-ranging effect.

Trump's insults also stick - true or not - eg he was talking about Biden being worst/second worst student in his year - saying he's not smart.  These resonate with the common person in the street.

Whatever you think of Trump, he is very shrewd.

She's not a journalist - she's an opinionist.  Doesn't have to abide by any rules of journalism, just writes whatever comes into her head - no accountability.

She's done well for herself by just sprouting her opinions.  I must admit that I agree with about 2% of them (which may be generous).

The Sports Desk / Re: Dean Jones RIP
Believe he played at Ashwood, but can't have been for long because he went to Carlton pretty young.   Paul Reiffel also played at Ashwood.

Glenn played at a few clubs in the area,  with controversy following him...

Foxtel have been playing the Legends interview with Craddock from a couple of years ago.   Good viewing.

I went to his school - Mt Waverley High - he was always spoken of with awe.  As another said started the revolution of improving fielding standards, running between wickets and the one day game.

There's been a heap of 80s and 90s one day games on Foxtel recently, where he features a lot - he was great to watch when going - you do forget.  He would have been almost unstoppable with today's bats and smaller fields.

Gutsy as (210 in India, asking Curtly Ambrose to remove his wristbands).

Still passionate about cricket and developing it.

RIP

With the 14 day average now below trigger points for the road map, it will be interesting on Sunday to see if there are some restrictions that will be lifted early.

There is significant pressure by business and on business that I think some more will be allowed to open their doors again.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Who would you vote for in a State Election if held this weekend 28/09
For me, it is about which party is going to:
a) make the State a better place
b) protect/look after the vulnerable the best
c) which party appears to have more integrity

I will admit that I don't necessarily know how to judge this as a lot of the talk is about 'me, me, me'

at the moment the choices are *****crickets*****.  The void of leadership, creation of division in society and total lack of integrity both State and Federally are very disheartening.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Participation: AFL Rd 16: Carlton vs Sydney at Metricon
We had two shots for a goal in the first quarter that we essentially touched on the line - Fish and Murph - bad kicking in that they needed to be kicked higher, but not as bad as Cas' miss.  If one of those is a goal, the whole game is different.

The worst bit was when Syd went from 3 goals to 7 very quickly.

TDK - does amazing things to our system!

McGovern is in horrible form as we all know.  One thing he can do is stop whinging.  Two missed tackles - whinges to umpire for free kicks that would have been there had he held the tackle.  In a scrum, whinges because he thinks he got an arm to the throat - there were several others.  Stop it and concentrate on getting the footy and then using it well.

The commentators' focus on Blakely's shoulder was interesting.  He did the first one himself when he ran into Setters - it was good to see some solid tackles on Blakely after that.  Also good to see that last free to Syd be called out, particularly by Dunstall as one that shouldn't have been paid.  Loved Cripps' 'Fckn bsht' comment to the umps.

If Plowman is such a dud and smashed Papley, why would we want Papley? ;D  Did Owies show enough?

We were almost bullies last night - certainly the stronger team.  GC were very young and our experience actually showed.   We controlled the ball most of the night.

We side stepped/ wrong footed them a lot.

Maybe we are starting to earn some trust as we beat a side as we should have.   Glad we didn't turn it into a close game.

We won't have the same luxuries next week.   Hope we bring ntensity run and our goal kicking boots next week.

What I found funny was how rental car companies don't allow cars on the ferry between islands, so you need to drop the car off at one side and pick up a new one on the other.

We had one of the roughest crossings from Wellington to Pickton (?), they were line ball as to whether they would cancel it or not.  We had a coffee before getting to the ferry and the locals suggested a locally made ginger tablet.  My wife took one, we gave one to our then 2yo, but I said I'd be right.  I was only just right!  Cutlery and crockery was going everywhere from the food places and I took shelter a couple of decks lower, sucking on ice cubes, while our son slept through it all, had no idea what went on!

Takes forever to drive anywhere in NZ, but because you go through every town, there are some pretty cool places you can pop into.

Someone posted that the flight from Brisbane to Darwin is a surprising 3 hrs 45 mins.  It still amazes me how big Australia is - it takes over 5 hours to get out of Australia going to Singapore from Melbourne - Brisbane is only half way to Cairns etc.  No wonder there are plenty of tourists who don't quite get how long it takes to go anywhere.  It takes about 7 hours to drive from Melbourne to the North West corner of Vic!

A mate of mine was working in London and there was a Wallbies v Scotland game in Edinburgh, so he drove up on Friday and back on Sunday.  No one believed that he went - had to produce ticket stubs as evidence - because you couldn't possibly drive that far on a weekend - admittedly it is a fair drive even for Aussies for a weekend.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Permutation: AFL Rd 12: Carlton vs Fremantle
A lot of talk about who should have taken the last kick.  In the mayhem that was happening, the umpire making the decision probably was looking for a Fremantle player, being unaware of the downfield free kick.  To then try to work out who the closest Blues player was is much harder as they have moved around.  It is easy to look at a screen after the event to see whose kick it was and where it should have been taken from.

In terms of the defence of Brayshaw - he was in the air, there was nothing he could do - how does that matter? It was late  Given the couple of in the back frees we had given away in the last quarter (correct decisions) a bit of consistency means it had to be paid.  Love the commentators trying to defend Brayshaw on that.

I think that Docherty did see Brayshaw and it affected his kick, which was probably a good thing, otherwise it would have just been a bomb into our forward line that we wouldn't have marked or roved.

So glad we won after again trying so hard not to!

A kid at the kinder our daughter goes to tested positive two weeks ago (28/7).  We just got our text from DHHS saying we need to isolate until 12/7 (yes - before the test - we are assuming they mean 12/8) and have a test on or after 8/7 (we are assuming they mean 7 August).

Good thing we were proactive and told families that were going that they should get tested.  As for what to do about a deep clean - that's a debacle - Call DHHS - no call DET - no Call DHHS...

(Kid is fine, all that have been tested that I know of are negative)
