Ladies Lounge / AFLW 2020 Rd 7: Carlton vs West Coast - CANCELLED
1:10pm at home against the new girls on the block, the Eagles.

What appears to be an easy game against the lowly eagles could translate to a danger game if we take it lightly.

With % likely to decide finishing order in the finals, this week is one we must give our all. It has the potential to elevate us to a spot where we get a bye in week 1 of the finals.

Got a pretty settled lineup of late.
Question marks over Harrington.
IMO Edwards needs to deliver more and is potentially in danger of losing her spot.

Robert Heatley Stand / Pick your best 22 players - Part 1 - Pre-season
OK, so i've done this before. Lets try it again to see how our best team 'evolves' over the year.

Please....
ASSUME ALL PLAYERS ARE FIT AND AVAILABLE FOR SELECTION

Everyone must choose 22 players.
Poll will end 5 days from now.....start of round 1.

Go at it.

Ladies Lounge / AFLW 2020 - Votes
To refresh peoples memory, the voting for the girls is different to that of the guys.

We use the traditional 3, 2, 1 method for votes (no splitting!)

So in a dominant win against the (other) 'old' enemy in R1, who deserves the 3, 2, 1?

Ladies Lounge / AFLW 2020 - PS1 - Carlton vs St.Kilda

The AFLW girls had their first practice match of the season today against St. Kilda down at Ikon Park.

Was St. Kildas first ever game in the competition today (albeit pre-season) and we handed them their first loss.....of which i'm sure there will be many. ;)

Carlton by 11 points.

No further details as yet.

Blah-Blah Bar / Daisy and Billy in the jungle?
I'm a celebrity is currently announcing which 'celebrities' are going into the jungle and there are 2 more announced tonight which most are tipping to be Daisy Thomas and Billy Brownless.

I'm not usually a fan of the show, but i did see large parts of it when Fev was involved and its very 'warts and all' and compelling viewing. This is where Fev came clean about all his issues with mental health, gambling and his sacking with Vossy in the mental institute.

Reckon both Daisy and Billy would have a fair bit of laundry to air out in public that would be worth listening too.

Would either of these 2 make the difference between you watching it or not?

Ladies Lounge / "Heroes" - An AFLW documentary on Kayo Sports
So i don't often open up Kayo to look for something to watch, i usually just go there to watch something i know is on (or just happened).

Anyway, time off, so why not have a browse....and i'm thankful i did.

"Heroes" is probably an hour or so long and tells the story of the AFLW in its first season. It takes a good look at both the on-field stuff, and the behind the scenes stuff from all angles. It has player, coach and administrator interviews as well as footage from the games.....and candid footage of players going about their lives.

Darcy Vescio features heavily. Lauren Arnell and Damian Keeping (our first captain and coach) are also featured. There are also quite a few words spoken from 'that collingwood chick' as well for those interested....i know there are at least a couple. ;)

Its a cracking watch and reminds everyone on how and why it all began and what it means to all those involved.

Its very well done and worth a watch.
Will get you excited about the up coming season too

Ladies Lounge / AFLW 2020 season
It seems one of the other teams might get a shot at the title this year.

First Erin Phillips does her knee in the Grand Final, now co-captain and superstar Chelsea Randall has done her knee on day 1 of the preseason.

That leaves the crows with 5 girls who have done their knee in the past 12 months. List sizes are only 30 (maybe 32?) which means over 15% of their playing list is unavailable due to ACL injuries. Ouch.

Ladies Lounge / Jess Hosking - Nominated: Jim Stynes Community Leadership award
https://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2019-09-23/hosking-takes-on-new-york-marathon-
Quote
Hosking was announced as one of the four finalists for the award last week alongside Geelong's Jamaine Jones, GWS Giants' Stephen Coniglio and Port Adelaide's Travis Boak.

Great effort by Jess.

Dennis Armfield is a previous winner of the award.

She was the 'lesser known' Hosking, but seems to be the more active one outside of football. She's done some hosting duties, as well as the 4 charities she's involved in.

“Me and my sister Sarah will be going over to New York and running the New York Marathon to raise money for Interplast.”

Anticipating the challenge ahead, Hosking is hopeful only to finish ahead of her twin sister in at the finish line.

“I think we’ve kind of said to each other that we just want to finish it,” she said.

“We don’t want to push ourselves too much considering we’re going into pre-season, but at the same time we’re very competitive.

“So when we say that we’re going to run the race together, it’s probably going to get to the last 100 metres and I’ll try and trip her up so I can finish before her.”

Good to see her outside interests help keep her, and her sister, fit as well.  ;D

Ladies Lounge / AFLW signing - Grace Egan
https://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2019-09-20/grace-egan-becomes-a-blue

Quote
THE Carlton Football Club is delighted to welcome Grace Egan for the 2020 AFLW season.

Egan was selected with Carlton's pick No.13 on Friday as part of the AFLW Academy bidding process.

The 19-year-old arrived at Richmond’s VFLW side with a point to prove and she did just that, improving her conditioning and strength to become a consistent performer at VFL level, showcasing a great balance between her contested and uncontested football.

Carlton now has picks Nos.2, 26, 36, 44, 52 and 59 in the upcoming NAB AFLW Draft, to be held at the Melbourne Showgrounds on October 22.
