Blah-Blah Bar / Re: General Discussions
Panel of judges ripped into both as rubbish witnesses (Lehrmann more than Higgins) Ch10 lawyers for bad advice,  Wilkinson for her speech that delayed(?) the initial trial,  Morrison for his response.

The next two cases will be interesting Reynolds v Higgins, Lehrmann separate tape trial. Talk about messy.

Notice Board (Visitors Enter Here) / Re: Missing Members - 2024
I read, but am losing interest in footy because of:
 - the hyperbole in everything eg 'Footy great involved in accident'  Footy great played suburban footy, how great Gather round is and and every game sold out (apart from the heaps that didn't turn up) and 'how good are the suburban footy grounds?' fine for suburban footy, but not AFL.  Here's the great {insert fellow commentator}
 - commentary - 'what a superb kick' 30 metre pass to a player 20m in the clear and other inane rubbish
 - the detail that media go to in order to get a story - a lot of trivial things are reported as breaking news and then talked about for days it is really tedious.
 - the media making up the news - using one example to push their agenda (this player is lazy or shouldn't have done that etc.)
 - the games themselves that I have seen haven't been that interesting to watch (only watched a couple)
 - 'Event' footy - Opening Round, Round 1, Good Friday, Gather Round, soon to be Anzac Eve & Day - where the footy is actually second to 'being at the event.

I find that I am only really watching Carlton, even then, I'm happy to turn off the TV if something else is on and watch it later.  The blues are, however, the most exciting team when they get on a roll.

Sorry - vent over.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 4 2024 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Fremantle
Had to go out with 15 mins to go. Checked scores, Freo were ~10 points up with 3 mins to go, so I wrote it off. Pleasantly surprised with the result!

Touched - so what, must happen a bit when getting it out of packs as others have said.

Nothing controversial from my perspective after watching it back. I thought we could have been a few goals in front by the end of the second, but it was a tough day at the office.

"Dont forget to like and subscribe" is about the most annoying phrase i've ever heard, and i hear it dozens of times a week courtesy of my kids watching youtube non-stop.
Krudd - can't blame the government for this. Parents are also responsible for education and what kids do during spare time.  Certainly not having a go at you or your parenting!

The Sports Desk / Re: God help me - the Test Cricket thread
Just expected to win, mucked around and got the according result.  The team is comfortable and no one is willling to change it to make it fresher by bringing in new players - even the touted openers have all had a crack at it and been found wanting.  Test cricket shouldn't be a retirement fund.

S Joseph, however, was amazing. It was really easy to barrack for him and the Windies. A few others did their bit really well.

Smith - If you need a challenge by moving to opener time you retired. Bowlers have worked you out.
Labuschange - concentrate on batting and not the rubbish that you do.
Green - ??? No confidence.  He gets pumped up, but don't see it.
Marsh - back to his old ways. If Pakistan could catch we would be asking why he is in the team
Head - take the good with the bad - gets a lot of Goldens.

Bowlers - don't bounce the tail enders - hit the top of off.  Don't complain about the pink ball and surface just because it is a little harder to get a wicket - concentrate on bowling properly and getting them out.

Absolutely annoys me the narcissm in cricket and footy.

Certainly no going back.  Getting a balance of office and home is hard.  Certainly office space is - what space is needed for one/two days a week when everyone is in and 50-75% the rest of the time.

A big employee advantage you can have an appointment more easily eg see a doctor at anytime,  rather than stressing to get the first appointment before commuting ie the flexibility.

The worst is information sharing decreases - I won't bother that person for this one thing,  not worth it,  even though it affects my ability to do my job.

Yes, there are benefits of working from home.  There are also negatives.  It is dependent on size, purpose of org and management.

 - General productivity and communication is dropping as people get comfortable with it.
 - There are more taking the P!ss with it again.
 - Lose the water cooler idea sharing/venting
 - Lose relationship with teams

Yes, local business benefit (by the time I think about lunch, get organised to get it, then eat it takes longer than at an office - so is the extra time made up?), but those that invested in their retail/hospitality business in CBD or other centres lose out.

I think the crowd sizes are pretty good.
 - workers are flat out leading up to Christmas and the holidays - couldn't imagine taking a day off to watch cricket during a work day atm
 - not all schools are out
-Getting sorted for Christmas is a higher priority.

It's a difficulty with Covid - so many different symptoms and so many that are the same as other illnesses.

I know heaps with Covid now for the mulitple time - some are getting it tough and some mildly.

My wife has had a cough for weeks that she can't get rid of - not Covid, not Whooping and it is really annoying, particularly at night where coughing fits wake us up several times.

Blah-Blah Bar / RIP Shane McGowan
Amazing that he lasted so long, but while The Pogues had issues, what a great band!

I remember seeing someone wearing a Pogues t shirt in the late 80s.  Judging the person, I assumed Pogues were punk.

I was introduced to their music some years later (early 90s) and me and my mate laughed at how wrong I was - and how good some of their tunes are.

Dirty Old Town, Fiesta, Pari of Brown Eyes and of course (which we will hear heaps of now if it isn't cancelled) Fairy Tale of New York.

His last few years didn't look like fun - he took ownership and knew it was his fault.

He certainly had an impact on me, in my impressionable youth (early 20s!)
