Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Passion; AFL Rd 19: Carlton vs North Melbourne
Normally I’m on the other site but reading this thread some of the comments make me laugh
The injury excuse
We have 12 guys  out
Casboult done and dusted
Boyd Mirkov McDonald rookies recycled players
McGovern has hardly touched it in 3 years anyway
I could go on
Essendon have more out yet there probably going to play finals
Whoever said that injury is an excuse for yesterday’s shameful effort has their hand on it

Our recruiting is crap
Our midfield recruiting over the last 6 years has been crap many on big money giving up draft picks
It’s Walsh Cripps then who else
I new we were in big trouble when they gave up the farm for McGovern and Setterfield when the club had its worse year on record in 2018
Stephen Silvangi  screwed this rebuild up big time
I predicted that this year we would be crap and once again a new List Manager Nick Austin decides to pay Zac Williams 4.8 million over 6 years to solve our midfield  speed woes
The guy has played 8 years as as unaccountable half back
How screwing stupid is it to give a guy such a massive contract to do a job he clearly is not capable of doing
The club is now saddled with paying a guy huge money for 6 years to play on nobody at HB
Ditto Jack Martin plays as a permanent HF does pretty much screw all

The club overrated him as well
5 years on about 3.5 million
This is a guy who has achieved virtually nothing his whole career
Other clubs simply wouldn’t do this
Why would a club give up a pick 8 for a guy who can play only one position
Ironically HB and pay him over 3 million for 5 years. At least Saad is fit but he is actually a limited player
Why would you give up pick 30 for a spud like Fogarty
Whilst all this is going on Murphy is handed games to get to 300 like he is entitled to get there and produces crap footy
Meanwhile Carroll Honey Ramsay can’t get a game
Honey and Ramsay have played one game between them in 2 years
That’s a joke

What i am saying is nothing has changed in 20 years
The club still lives in the past
It hugely overrates some
It says screw the others
How does that produce a team environment
How can a guy like SPS be allowed to play 93 games
It doesn’t get how to be successful in 2021
The board needs to go
The board is ultimately responsible for setting the tone
I’ve said this on the other website for years
This external review is another smoke screen
Until that happens nothing will change

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2021 Rd 12: Carlton vs West Coast
Murphy was poor but Jack Martin continues to disappoint IMO, Yeo was second game back after a long lay off and copped a knock in the head but was influential in the contests ,getting physical with our blokes and looking after Cripps.
Williams and Saad were ok but Martin isnt doing enough, he has the skills but continues as he did at GC to have low possession games and I'd be giving him a rocket if I was the coach and telling him to lift his work rate.

Tell me
What has Martin achieved in his whole career

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2021 Rd 9: Carlton vs Melbourne
If you think Martin's soft (or lazy) you really are clueless.

You see the perception is this guy is a gun
Can you tell me his individual achievements
This is his 9 th season
In 8 and a half seasons he has finished 3 rd in a GC B+F and was a rising star in 2014
That’s it
Can you tell me a game last year where he went into  the midfield and made a sustained difference
Give me a specific game
I’ll give you a specific game
Against Brisbane second quarter last game of the year CHB pulled out of a contest
This after hardly touching it in a game where a top team was heating it up not to mention Simmos last game a guy of similar size who never pulled out of a contest in over 300 games given by recollection of events

Martin will be on less than 400k for the next 3 seasons as the contract was front loaded to pay him 2 million for his first 2 years.
I have read that Martin was in the top 5 paid players in 2020
Ignore COVID-19 and he would have got a million
The next 4 years starting from 2021 it’s 600000 a season
Not bad for a cameo soft injury prone lazy guy who can’t play midfield
Saad actually is on 650000
Face it the club has shot itself in the foot once again

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2021 Rd 9: Carlton vs Melbourne
You don't know that for fact.
We can assume that’s the case surely
Williams 850000
Martin 600000
McGovern 700000
Saad 500000 plus
Cripps 800000
Curnow 600000
The added problem is McKay
He is on  around 400000
He will be getting close to double that next yearbecause his contract is up
In relation to the first three names we are not getting bang for the buck of course Charlie has been injured
WC and Freo don’t have much wriggle room either
Freo in particular over pay some of their so called stars
Rory Lobbe

Reckon we're one gun mid away from getting it together - had hoped it would be Dow or Setterfield.

Kemp? As a Kouta type utility/mid? Maybe.

Hunter would have been good, ditto Oliver albeit different players.

Merrett is certainly something we lack - zippy, finds the pill, bit of an accumulator too, gets it inside 50 quickly - perfect for Charlie and Harry.

Not sure he goes missing too often - see below, consistent numbers this year - and stacks up well statistically with Josh Kelly.

According to Champion Data we have the second
Worst midfield
One guy won’t fix it

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2021 Rd 9: Carlton vs Melbourne
Our recruiting over the last years particularly mids has been woeful
Add some horrible trades recruiting total spuds from other clubs plus giving too long contracts to blokes who don’t deserve them and this is what you get
The coach had a shocker of the week but the club itself is the problem
Starts at board level
I said last year we won’t go anywhere in 2021
Everyone over the moon about Williams and Saad
Saad is one dimensional
Williams is a HBF that’s all he is
Our depth is crap
The club doesn’t seem to have the capacity to actually know where it’s really at
It overrates its list condo
Add gifting games to Murphy is adding insult to injury
But sacking the coach will not solve the club’s problems
The President and Judd departing at the end 2021 might trigger the real change we need

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2021 Rd 8: Carlton vs Western Bulldogs
You know who else got 2 possessions in the last quarter.....Captain Cripps.
For a guy who is captain, that is CLEARLY not good enough.

The whole team was crape in the last, using that to justify your argument (if it is indeed based on stats or just your opinion) doesn't make him look bad, it makes him look like the rest of the team.
Why not
He played crap and went missing when it counted
How many credits does Cripps have in the bank

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2021 Rd 8: Carlton vs Western Bulldogs
Since you guys are so good at using stats to back up your argument
Here is mine
He basically played around the ground on ball with some stints up forward
As we know he is the best kick in the team
9 score involvements when you get only 12 possessions is amazing
Here is the bit you blokes conveniently don’t bring up
In the last quarter Cuningham like most in the team played 100% in defence
2 possessions
Not one tackle
When the pressure was on like always with him he went missing
For a guy in his 6 th year it ain’t good enough

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2021 Rd 8: Carlton vs Western Bulldogs
You are never pleased.

It wasn't the number of touches he got is what he did that got me excited.
He showed more in that game than LOB has shown his whole career.
Showing more then O’Brien wouldn’t be hard
Is 12 possessions good enough for a mid
I’ve always said he has great skills
He simply doesn’t want it enough judging by the lack of output
