Jim Park Voting AFL Rd 7 Carlton vs North Melbourne

A pity to have Hewett out. He was one of only 2 to get votes in every game. Only Doc remains.

Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos:
[1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Sam Walsh or Patrick Cripps)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.

Someone has to play well.

HM Carroll, Cripps(kicking for goal took the edge off his game for me)

Considering that we have so many injuries at the moment, and that we’ve played poorly against North now for years, this win was little short of excellent. Even with our ruck issues, we dominated the centre square and played with more aggression and dynamism than we’ve managed for years.

Votes:
[2]   Patrick Cripps:
[2]   Sam Docherty
[2]   Adam Saad
[1.5]   Harry McKay
[1]   Matthew Kennedy
[1]   Sam Walsh
[1]   Adam Cerra
[0.5]   Lewis Young
[0.5]   Zac Fisher
[0.5]   Jack Newnes
[0.5]   Jack Carroll
[0.5]   Lachie Plowman
[0.5]   Lochie O’Brien
[0.5]   Matthew Owies
[0.5]   Jacob Weitering
[0.5]   Charlie Curnow

Explanations:
[2]   Patrick Cripps:      If he had his kicking boots on, it would have been perfect. As it was, Cripps did a remarkable job: 35 possessions, 4 marks, 2 good taps that created scoring opportunities and 10 clearances. Brilliant.
[2]   Sam Docherty:   Doc had a great night. Not only did he get 33 possessions, but he gained over 500 m! He killed his opponents and provided huge drive from defence.
[2]   Adam Saad:   One of the best games Adam has played in his career. Saad defended brilliantly, attacked excellently and didn’t waste a ball.
[1.5]   Harry McKay:   11 marks for a key forward says a lot. Had H kicked them all … H was excellent and really provided leadership in the front half.
[1]   Matthew Kennedy:   24 possessions and 11 clearances says a lot. 5 tackles, intercept marks, he provided a huge amount of drive.
[1]   Sam Walsh:   Walsh played well without totally dominating, and still ended up with 29 disposals and 4 clearances.
[1]   Adam Cerra:   Cerra was a bit quiet early, but when the game was to be won, he really stepped up and provided grunt in the middle. 26 possessions and 6 clearances.
[0.5]   Lewis Young:   His best game by a long way, Lewis had the confidence to go for his marks this week. He took more intercept marks than any other player and really provided something.
[0.5]   Zac Fisher:   Fisher has been less than great lately, but this week he really stood up. The impressive part was his kicking and his hard running. He really provided an option when it was needed.
[0.5]   Jack Newnes:   A solid contributor who knocked up getting possessions. Solid marking. Solid, solid, solid.
[0.5]   Jack Carroll:   An excellent debut and a brilliant first kick, Jack managed to get involved in a lot of scoring opportunities. His kicking was neat and his willingness to go in hard was excellent.
[0.5]   Lachie Plowman:   Lachie has had a poor year by his standards. He has struggled with form and fitness and was lucky to be selected when Williams dropped out. But this was the sort of game that managed to get him so many votes for the Carlton B&F. he spoiled when he had to, he out-marked his opponent and he provided real presence in defence.
[0.5]   Lochie O’Brien:   Only 15 possessions, but each one was a knife in North’s vitals. The kicking he showed was one of the reasons we drafted Lochie.
[0.5]   Matthew Owies:   Only 5 possessions, but 2 great goals and 8 tackles. His defensive work was enormous and helped keep the ball in our forward half.
[0.5]   Jacob Weitering:   Had the better of his opponents and kicked a goal. Solid contributor, especially when the game was in the balance.
[0.5]   Charlie Curnow:   Charlie didn’t have his kicking boots on either, which spoiled an excellent game. He kept on making chances.

Honourable Mentions:
Tom de Koning:   Tom was almost voteworthy. His efforts in the middle were significant. He was beaten overall, but half of all his taps were to advantage. 10 taps to advantage are more than most rucks manage in two weeks. His ability to nullify Goldstein was instrumental in our win.
Nick Newman:   Very solid in defence, his effort would normally be vote worthy.
Jack Martin:   I was really tempted to give Jack Martin a vote because he stood up for a lot longer this week. Not a 4-quarter effort, but when things were close, he really stood up and committed his body. He doesn’t do that enough.
Jack Silvagni:   Like Tom de Koning, Jack didn’t have a great day in the ruck, but he competed well enough to nullify the advantage that could have beaten us.

Throw a blanket over the rest of the team for honorable mentions!
