The Sports Desk / Re: World Cup - 2019
Well, made the semis in style, poms are the ones struggling now.  That bowling attack looked a whole heap more balanced last night, & that first wicket of Behrendorffs was an absolute ripper.

The middle order (well, basically everyone other than Finch & Warner) are still not pulling their weight.

Smith has to bat 3.

Maybe the problem isn't the bails, I've seen the zinger bails close up and they are similar weight, shape and size to traditional bails.

The problem might be the light up camera stumps, they are very different to normal stumps and covered in vinyl decals which softens and contact between the stump and ball. They also have a deeper seat for the bail at the top of the stump, to prevent stumps and bails randomly flashing when it's windy or as the bowler runs past during a delivery stride.

Yeah, that could definitely be an issue if that is the case, surely the depth of the groove is written into the rules of cricket !

On another matter.....the gimmick that is the "zing" bails....are costing bowlers more & more wickets, but no chance of the ICC doing anything about it apparently...nothing to see here la la la.

Classic case of putting entertainment value over the values & integrity of the game.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: RIP - Anna Green
I have to add my sincere condolances to Brad and the family at this news. There will be a huge part of their lives missing.......I lost my dad about a month ago now, and while I feel blessed to have had him in my life for 50 years,.....I've never known life without him & there is still that feeling that part of me is now missing.  Anyone who goes through this or is going through it now, you have my complete sympathy.

regards

trying to be positive....

The pies would rather keep Grundy than get pick 1 in my mind.  He's the best ruck in the comp and their most important player, and could potentially cost them a flag in the next few years if he departs.  They are fair and square in their window, and he's a massive reason.

We get Stocker and another crack at a first rounder, who combined might be more valuable than pick 1.  We could easily win this one still.

The crows - well - they just win.  Try as I might I can't see how they lose this one.  I have decided not to waste my energy on what they get out of it, all that matters is what we get.

The crows don't "win" unless they get a 200 game player with their pick.....and even that will depend on how either of our two picks have gone.....which will take a long time to all play out...& I agree with you that it's not worth worrying about.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pre-Game Prattle: AFL Rd 10: Carlton vs St Kilda at Marvel

As for Charlie, I’m not convinced that his form is all that bad.  He is getting the defensive attention that a key forward has to put up with and we’re still struggling with a forward structure that provides mutual support and exploits over emphasis on one or two players.  I had hoped that Teague would have this sorted but we’ve got a way to go and getting hammered in the midfield doesn’t help.
So, why don't we chuck Curnow the younger into the midfield ?  We have the marking forward to replace him & his aerobic capacity is supposedly nearly as good as his brothers.  I for one, would love to see what his reaction would be to being given a go there.

Mal.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Winning isn't everything
You're a funny one. What those 3 clubs were doing during those times was still win plenty of games... just not enough.

What does it matter if I or anyone, if supporting one of those clubs, would have called for a change of senior coach? Nothing. And no-one knows what would have happened had any of them changed their senior coach... might have improved, might have gone backwards, might have achieved about the same. We can speculate, but that means diddly. We just don't know, but what we do know is that they had a good base to launch from and should have been doing better - so those clubs, knowing this, each supported their senior coach in changing his MO and in some instances, some of the people around him with instant results... makes you wonder how much more successful they might have been had their senior coach changed his ways sooner? And to me that's the real message in this... expect success then when it doesn't come, look in the full-length mirror.

I think we're smart enough and not egocentric enough to simply agree to disagree. We see things differently and that doesn't reflect negatively or positively on anyone. And we each, from time to time, dare to speculate which can create some chaos. Difference is delicious. Be boring as all get-out if this forum was full of agreement!! In the end it boils down to how we disagree.

The difference with those 3 sides that Paul mentioned, I think, is that none of them went back to the beginning for an entire rebuild as we have done.  I truly believe that we have to allow Bolton to at least have a shot at being able to coach the rebuilt side....Bringing in another bloke to coach a side that's ready made & them giving them credit for results is pretty skewed to be fair.  It's like giving Ross Lyon credit for the Saints....or a little closer to home, Wallsy too much credit for building the 1986/87 sides (which were Parkins doing).

Anyway, I hope he gets another full year to fine tune a side that finally, has some significant upside.

Now Ruckmen.

Quality ruckmen are even rarer, most teams have at least one or two A Grade KPPs on the list, but there are less A-Grade rucks than there are teams!

We've one who is at the moment has to deal with an unreliable body.

At one point we had 3 quality rucks when we had no other KPPs !

....but lets not drag over that scenario decision again.

Watching on Kayo, just do not understand why this cricket isn't FTA.

I think despite being well on top in the final, as I understand the new points rules it's 50/50 in the final under the new rules.

NSW have taken the points in the first 100 overs so if it's a draw they win, is that correct?

I agree absolutely, it's been on the site free for every other match of the season...

BTW, Pattinson dismantling NSW...he has got to be in the Ashes squad, not World Cup though.

His fire & attitude is so far from what Starc produces its not a contest.

The Sports Desk / Re: Australian Cricket - Crisis, What Crisis ??
RIP Bruce ????

I always liked the way he went about his cricket.  He wasn’t the best cricketer but he always had a crack.

One of the most energetic, likable cricketers of my childhood.  Loved watching him.  He was good enough to bamboozle the Windies regularly, and was the bowler Sunil Gavasakar picked as the hardest to face.

Very sad to hear this news....all my heros, getting to this age....quite sobering.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2019 AFL Rd 1: Carlton vs Richmond at the MCG: Post Game Passion
BTW...Walsh, in his first game.....was excellent....his composure (for the most part) was years above his age & experience.  Zach Fisher is a real goer....& Patty Dow did some great things (apart from one horrid shot for goal)  We are going to have a top notch midfield in a year or two.

The day we don't have to play Jones in defense will be a turning point...and I'm still not sold on Weitering.

What was with all our running under the ball for marks ??, was there Helium in the footy ?

Oh & don't get me started about the horrid little dinky kick ins after a behind....it was just a photocopy everytime & the Tigers blocked it off at the same half back spot  !!

We didn't even attempt to use the extra space available to get us further up the ground.
