Time to conisder this week's game: we are 2nd bottom and GWS are on top for the first time, but we are a LONG way from being out of the contest. GWS have not been winning by much and appear ripe for a loss. We, on the other hand, are ripe for a win! :) :)
Seriously, we should be flogged. GWS have the skills we lack and deserve to be on top at the moment. But I am not sure we are going to be flogged. But we DO have to put in 4 quarters.
10 goal loss minimum.
Our boys crack in all game - get tired in last quarter regularly unfortunately
Our defence is super good - our dysfunctional forward line is a problem and hope Harry makes an introduction here as I don't rate GWS tall defenders.
Cripps, Gibbs, Curnow, Graham get good contested numbers and tackles.. just when we move it forward is the problem and hopefully Harry can make an intro to the AFL world.
GWS have struggled at Etihad this year ;D
Could easily be a blow out... hopefully GWS are thinking about their week off and going on a massive bender in Melbourne post match.
And can we at least try and tag Josh Kelly.
Bring our very very best as well as plenty of G and D and we could get close, but..........?
A week or 2 ago they were forced to play a half-injured stevie j because they couldn't find a half-fit body to replace him.
Not sure how many blokes they've got back since, but i can guarantee that their injury list is a lot larger than ours.
Who knows. This week might be the best week of the year to face them.
GWS play pretty footy and we have to make it tough hard and be physical.....dump Mummy on his fat ar$e too and dont get intimidated by him. The player who is their real leader is Callum Ward IMO, without him Kelly, Scully, Shiel and co will have to get their hands dirtier and I reckon nullifying Ward is a key factor.
They will start odds on favs but I reckon we can take it up to them...maybe a player like Armfield could be a suitable in this week, pacy, good tackler and can kick a goal if
a smart ar$e big headed GWS backman like Heath Shaw doesnt man up and kick chases instead..
I agree with playing this game tough.
There should be a number on the board at Carlton, 120 tackles.
If 120 tackles are not laid then the footy gets put away this week and all of their work is high intensity drills such as suicides etc that leave them needing to throw up, to remind them how to push our boundaries.
We don't have to win this game, but we must make them hurt, we must put a body on them and we must frustrate the crap out of them. It doesn't have to be dirty, but when you run past a player, put a body on them, when you are a stoppage .. put a body on them.
GWS has more skill and they have more speed, but there is no reason why our club can't have more guts and determination.
If Carlton walk off the ground beaten against GWS but you can see just how hard each player went, then as a supporter that is going to be enough to please me, that is going to show me that they know how to work when the chips our down, they know how to never, ever give up.
You've nailed it MIO, i agree 120%!

hear hear! I totally agree. Actually I think we could even give these clowns a run for their money if we attack the contest like there is no tomorrow. If we don't then we should be ashamed of ourselves.

Wright, Palmer and SPS to running backs in Heaf Shaw, Nafe Wilson and Zac Williams
Ed Curnow to tag Josh Kelly
Gibbs to Callum Ward
Docherty to a wing v Tom Scully - make Scull accountable
Some talent (and pace) missing from the park.....even if Lobb, for example, gets up he'd surely be well underdone...?

What chance our ex-GWS boys will want to prove a point?

They are good but they aren't that good.
Has anyone noticed the total lack of media time we've had this week? Granted we are not expected to win, but we haven't been expected to win all year. Nothing about the former GWS boys. Just a black hole.

I've noticed this as well, we seem to have locked down our media department.
FWIW, CheatsFC have featured on every news broadcast with The ChemiCoach doing more interviews than Graham Norton.
Even at our last home game, Carlton v Norp, they spent 75% of the time discussing Norp.
btw., Given our current level of success, is this a good or bad thing?
Our big chance is that we jump them early with extreme pressure. Hopefully they turn up with their minds already on their week off!! We might just be freshened up from the break, while they are hanging out for theirs, and hoping for an easy game.
Our last 3 games against these guys have been terrible - we have scored 50 odd each time to 120-130. They are a good team, but they have only just beaten Pies and Bombers who we beat, so I pray we can keep them in check early.
We need to match their midfield run and depth and put pressure on them there. I would bring in 2 of Smedts, Boek or Kerridge, and give McCreadie and Fisher a spell - just to give us guys who can put in a 4 quarter hard running effort and give us some transitional options coming out of the backline. Also allows Wright to play forward more where he is most useful.
I would also bring in big H for a debut game. Put Willo on Toby for the day for his education.
If fit I highly expect Daisy to be back and Jones to come in.
Jones is tall enough, strong enough, mobile enough and fast enough to be a real issue for the GWS forwards.

Dont like those ins.
I didn't think I'd ever be pleased to see Liam Jones as an "in" but I'm more than pleased, I'm excited :)
I hope he gets a run and is under instructions to crunch every GWS player that gets in range.
I reckon Graham, Jones, SPS, and either Thomas or Smedts will fill the bench.
Not a bad side.
Dont like those ins.
Some of the "ins" won't be "ins" though after 3 drop out.
Agreed, joke ins, my grannie has more exposed form than Jed Lamb.
If it were me, I would not be playing Lamb or Sumner and I'd be pretty dubious about Daisy Thomas. I'd have brought him back via the VFL after his concussion. But....
Agreed, joke ins, my grannie has more exposed form than Jed Lamb.
Actually he wasn't too bad in the VFL last game, but his run of good form is one game which seems odd given how long it's taken for Jones to get a gig!
Perhaps this selection is papering over some injury concerns.
I think Murphy hasn't looked right for a couple of weeks now, a week off is not always a good thing for old blokes with injuries, sometimes they seize up! :o
Weitering and Plowman both look to be sore and are struggling for form.
Anyway, those four ins need their chance, the two Ciaran's will be putting the heat of plenty of them in the coming weeks. Watch this space!
Final Carlton's team to face GWS:

Out: Macreadie (omitted), Petrevski-Seton (managed), Graham (omitted)
Milestones: Kreuzer - 150 games, Plowman - 50 games
Good move giving Samo a rest.
Reckon Lamb & Sumner got the nod over Graham owing to speed over the grass and fronting up to their previous club. NG has worked hard but that lack of pace does hurt him, his disposal has improved though he did commit a horrible clanger against the Kangabies. Lamb does bring a little mongrel as well which we like.
Along came Jones! Looking forward to seeing him.????

Both in against the old side. Maybe some inside info to help? Or some extra motivation?

I doubt that Lamb has any edge over Graham in the speed department but Graham has been more effective at the more spacious MCG.
How Thomas and Lamb get a game is beyond my understanding.
Still have to double take and kick myself seeing Silvagni written twice. Might be thrice times soon. ;D

x2...reckon that is the end for Nick Graham too....
Lamb might provide a bit more goalkicking ability as he does kick straight but vs GWS you need plenty of midfielders to rotate, reckon that means Wright up the ground more and maybe Lamb
down playing the FP role...

Part of the sorting out process I guess? Final chances before decisions are made.

Would that be a Cavoodle or Labradoodle Baggers?
I'm just a little concerned that we have both Lamb and Sumner in the 22. Happy to be proved wrong as always.

It may be the reverse EB1.
Lamb's last game at the NBs he seemed to spend a fair amount of time behind the ball rotating on-ball. It could be freeing Wright up to stay forward, we know clubs have dragged Wright away from goal in recent weeks.
Congratulations to big Kruez and Lachie Plowman.
Hope the boys give their all making for a memorable milestone event.
All the best to the Jones boy and Jed Lamb. Make this game your own fellas and give the selectors a headache.
Go new Blues

Just the way I like it, low key lead up, turn up and knock off the league leader and flag favourites.

Fair chance for sure. I've tipped Giants, so we're in with a chance according to my 2017 tipping stats :P

LP..Hope so..I like Wright near goal more often as he kicks straighter than most...
