Boy the AFL didn't mess around in making up for giving us a good run with Friday nights in 2018, none in 2019!! ! x Thursday night and 1 Saturday night against the doggies, the rest is a mix of afternoon and twilight crap.

Love it. As someone who is actively involved with local footy on a Saturday, it means I can get to no less than seven Sunday games. Also means I don't have to put up with the journos and media types banging on about how much we don't deserve ad nauseam. Think this pleases me more!
Our first 3 games are very tough and our finish is a real prick with 5 of our last 7 games against this year finalist.
Prime time is Saturday arvo! 8)
6 times interstate, 4 in the first 9 rounds.
Love it. Selfishly, I'll be able to get to more games. Might be able to give the FOXTEL subscription the flick.
Should enable Bolts & his crew to develop the side and fly under the radar without the constant harassment from the Media Scumbags ;)
If the AFL could have banished us to play Tuesday mornings at 3AM they would have.
Banishment.
While you can spend time discussing our draw, what chance do some clubs have?

Is it any accident CheatsFC is a big winner, after a crap 2018, and that GC have gotten the easiest draw despite as Kevin Sheedy likes to remind us finishing above us on the ladder!
Ch 7 games ........7
FOXTEL games....14 (including 5 interstate)
Sign up....or spend a $hitload of time at your local watering hole!
I hope Cripps wins the Brownlow, with CheatsTV having stuff all coverage of it!

Off to the footy before heading to work...lol.
We need to get a touch of the Ted Whitten's about us, or we are going to be Auld's bitch for the next few years as he tries his best to assist CheatsFC in erasing it's filthy history!
Someone has to pay the price for that favoritism, guess who?
Suits me fine as I much prefer attending arvo games. Other games I can watch on FoxtelNow as I have a free 2 year subscription with my new broadband package. ^-^

Twilight Games suck, pure and simple, sponsors have no interest in clubs stuck in the twilight zone!
Still don't see why cheats FC gets so much prime time exposure. Some heat should be applied to Travis Auld....i smell a conflict of interest.
The fixturing prosses is as bent as a pollie's pre-selection.

I don't attend those, bad time of day for me. Foxtel again beckons.

Yep. Nine bob notes all round!

I can take the kids to more games which is great but this is a commercial disaster for the club. Sponsorship revenue will be decimated with no night games on TV. Funny how the AFL financially cripples the clubs already in trouble (the ones further down the ladder) with no financial plan in place to compensate them.
Crap draw.... For sponsors. Puts pressure on our finances.
Crap draw.... Chances of early wins slim. Puts pressure on the club, especially Bolton.
I get the feeling we're being set up to quietly fail, before the send 'em to X chorus starts up.
If there is a god we will bitch slap the tigers week one, but we're living a nightmare not a dream.
That looks like a pretty good fixture to me; I'll get to a lot more games in 2019 :)
The family friendly time slots should encourage younger family members to get on board - provided we're competitive and knock off a few of our main competitors.
I'm happy, I don't like night games as I don't get home until well after midnight, although I understand they are good for the club financially. I will be happy if we win somes games, no matter what time or day

CheatsFC people are already in the media making statements like the Good Friday schedule will take 2 or 3 years to develop. That is the very same tactic they used to secure Anzac Day, first is was argued to "Give it some time to develop" and then it can be rostered around different clubs. Sheedy painted it like CheatsFC and the Filth doing all the hard work and taking on all the risk for the good of footy! Then after two or three years the argument became "We've done such a good job developing the schedule, you can't possibly risk giving it to anybody else!"
Now whenever something like this comes up a tool like Sheedy will come out and state, "How can you risk giving it to anybody else, we(CheatsFC) have a proven track record of making these things work!" Carefully not mentioning that no other club gets the opportunity, and even if they do CheatsFC will white-ant them at every stage of the process!
Champion data rates Richmond's draw easier than ours.

They play a lot more teams below then than we do!
You know you've come off a bad year when you look at the fixture and you wonder where the first win will come from. Even GCS up there early in the year will be a tough gig.
I really hope for everyone's sake (especially BB) that we don't take until round 8 to get a win next season.......
Round 8 is against the filth, so unlikely. Round 10 against St Kilda is a chance

One coach will be in trouble if we do.

Not if you start winning or at least are dangerous and highly competitive.
Nothing but 6 and 7 day breaks will help.
From the Hun...:
CARLTON
The big win: Relishing a traditional arvo and family-friendly footy draw in which they host big rivals Richmond and Collingwood at the MCG.
The major concern: Stripped of Friday night footy hurts, but comes as no surprise.
Prime time factor: Retained the Thursday night season opener against Richmond.
Get your tickets: Should get more than 80k to the ‘G for Round 1.
Club says: “I’m pleased we’ve received a balance of Saturday and Sunday afternoon matches. They’re traditional footy timeslots ... so it’s a positive result for the club and our members and supporters.” — CEO Cain Liddle
Gotta say Cain looks like a feeble, very vanilla type....
Surely a great chance to say, well sure we haD A POOR 20018 but the numbers show we still draw a bigger crowd than all the others, Drug Cheats included.
AND, we'll be back....
Just strikes me as an AFL stooge - in my opinion.
Happy to spurt the rhetoric, rather than fly the flag!!

Do we draw bigger crowds than the others?....for the blockbuster games yep...but our averages are mid-field at the moment and well behind our big rivals.
Around 34,000
Richmond 57,000
Collingwood 55,000
Essendon 47,000
Melbourne 42,000
i was talking about the block busters games.
Averages mean jack.

No they don't...especially home games.
Of the top 20 crowd numbers last year we had 2
Essendon had 5
Richmond had 10
Collingwood had 7
Hawthorn had 5

Show me some facts Lods, to my mind, block busters - televised - must surely be the money spinners?

That doesn't answer the question. Sorry.
We easily have the hardest draw of anyone.
We only play sides thag finished above us on the ladder for all 23 rounds. No other club has to do that...lol.
That doesn't answer the question. Sorry.
If you're asking about TV ratings
Do you have the figures?
We can pretty much discount the Richmond 90,000 game...First game, new season plenty of hope, playing the premiers.
So our best apart from that was one 68,000 crowd against our arch rival.
We're not as good as we think we are at drawing a crowd and won't be until we're on the rise. ;)

Well you can discount anzac day, anzac eve, easter monday, dream time, queens birthday etc.

No you can't
The first game of the year is a clean slate.
Not many Carlton supporters would have attended anticipating a 2 and 20 season.
Most would have thought we were a chance of knocking them off....even more at quarter time
Personally I'm rapt we have no Friday night games, not I until we can provide we can compete and win consistently. I hope its in 2019, but until we demonstrate it, I am happy to not have to watch us lose on a Friday and spend the whole weekend thinking about it. I look forward the reverse of that in fact, us smashing opposition sides on the big stage on Friday nights. In the mean time, anyone, anytime, anywhere.

How many of the 'top 20' crowds were at a ground outside the MCG? 3. They were all in Perth with 2 WA derbys and last years grand finalists against this years grand finalists.
Given we play only half our games at the MCG, and given we play well over half our away games elsewhere, it puts us behind the 8-ball to begin with.
Both Tigers and Pies were flying last year and play the majority of their games at the G.
Bombers are a bit like us, but they still get 'Dream time' and 'ANZAC day' so thats a given 2 every year.
Just on the Hawks, they only averaged less than 2000 people more than we did on average for the year in Home and Away. They made top 4.

There were 70,000 Richmond fans there.
We kicked the first 5 goals and I was the only fan in my bay standing up.

You're making my point for me ;)
We still have residual support but it's waning.
What would our crowd have been if we'd played Richmond in round 16...and how many would have been Carlton folk.
It will flow back.... but the key as flyboy said in another thread is to "win games"
At the moment we won't get,nor do we deserve, prime time games

And that is where we found out the worth/ability of the senior Coach.
Our "kids' are past the point of saying they're young....
Several need to really step up. And I reckon will.

As much as I hate Kennett, I have to admire his stance, he not pulling any punches and has unloaded on the AFL regarding the biased draw and the disrespect he perceives from a Dawks perspective. If we had a tenth his attitude we'd be walking beside our opponents instead of being walked on!
So I'd like nothing better than to see the Dawks turn the CheatsFC into a bruised puddle!
Four interstate games in the first 9 rounds isnt exactly what we needed.......hate playing in Tassie too.....very hard to beat the home teams down there....

But does it achieve anything? I don't think so.
Much of Kennett's posturing is simply self-promotion. He knows that the AFL doesn't give a toss about his whinging and the AFL knows that he knows. The fuss will die down and his club will just get on with business.

That seems more like a wish DJC, than any reality.
We might not know Kennett's ultimate reasons but everything he says has a purpose and despite hating him it's naive to think it's all about self-promotion. The same applys to Eddie Everywhere McGuire,
If you want to ID some worthless self-promoters they are usually fairly obvious and transparent from their leech like lifestyle, Flubbo, Caro, Hunchy, Darcy, BT and Barrett and now Whateley has joined the club.
btw., The Dawks will be starting on their boutique DIngley stadium built on top of the new underground train line soon, and we'll still be installing showers for AFLW headquarters, which will probably move to the Dawks new boutique stadium once it's finished anyway! You don't think they'll actually pay for all that do you?

So what do you make of his famous “I’ll just sit here and drink my tea” statement?
Richard Garvey, Stuart Fox and particularly Geoff Harris deserve the credit for the Kennedy Centre. I guess it shows the benefits of sustained on field success.

If Kennett's relentless posturing was working then he'd have nothing to complain about this time as all his wishes would have been met.
Often the Dawks go about their business in spite of Kennett.
Plus he's good for media ratings as they know he'll give them a worthless/shallow headline with one of his blusterings. Sorry, but I think DJC is right... the AFL just see Kennett as an irritating yawn. Much like the rest of us.

Is that a confusion of not wanting to interfere in internal planning with not implementing them more widely?
I would assume the plans are "Kennett's plans", he's smart enough to know that in the back-room he isn't the smartest bloke in the place. But that doesn't mean he won;t do everything he can within his network of connections to make the plans of his associates happen! I'd argue having a Kennett or McGuire type on hand improves the boards chance of getting a things actioned, just as having Dick Pratt on-board helped Carlton!
Love him or hate him, he makes things happen, he's not just an ideas man!
Sorry, but I think DJC is right... the AFL just see Kennett as an irritating yawn. Much like the rest of us.
Yet the AFL officially appoints a person like Sheedy as a spokesperson!
The might be hypocrits but they are not idiots, they know how opinions are formed and how much subjectivity comes into play in the decision making process.
There are two good things at work with the fixture:
- upgrade to an 11 home game membership
- only 2 home games that we can't go to due to the time of the game - v Richmond round 1 and Bulldogs night game.
the last couple of years, our choices have been much more limited - the 1 and 2pm start times are great for us...

We get what we deserve, as do the other clubs that delivered tripe by towing the AFL line about this rubbish draw from a CheatSFC dominated AFL Executive.
Dishearteningly, Kennett is the only one to come out of last weeks announcements with any credibility. Obviously for now the AFL doesn't have the Dawks by the short and curlies, but he wants to be careful!

Isn't the bottom line thought that your ability to hit back without repercussion is very much dependent on your position both off-field and on-field.
If you're strong in both areas it gives you a fair bit of leverage.
Weak in both areas and they'll walk all over you!

Quite true Lods.
But I cannot help but feel that much of the AFL Media are basically bullies, and a heavily biased bunch of bullies at that, which means going meekly into the night won't save you! They'll always choose the soft target, they have no honour!
I've no doubt that this draw is a reaction to those bullies, because late in the season when the OzTam published the numbers our TV ratings were actually 3rd on the AFL table behind the Filth and Nthmond. So if nothing else we are victims of a political campaign, regardless of whether subjectively it is justified or not, it has become the fashion to blame us for all the AFL's ills, a confirmation bias covering over the real problems like the horrible broadcast line up and the slovenly cheap coverage! The time has past for CheatsTV, they are yesterday's men but they are determined to go down fighting! Why not us?
They want high scoring not because it's better to watch, but because the Sydney HQ of CheatsTV demands more advertising opportunity! They hated our 2017, we put the brakes on and made closer results after they complained about blow-outs, and then they complained about low scoring. There is only one thing that makes them happy, shoot outs, uncontrolled random crap shoots!
CheatsTV really want an AFL version of Basketball with 30 goals each plus timeouts(60 or more Ad breaks in 2hrs of sport) and a final term 2pt result for the highlight reel! Even some of the suggested rule changes seem to support this! Nobody within the trade will highlight that, because most importantly AFL is not about the fans, and this is not about making the game better to watch for the people who actually go to it, it's about making money for players, clubs, coaches, media and contractors!
The less scoring there is, the less Ad breaks they have, the more dependant CheatsTV becomes on it's bargain basement broadcast crew, and the worse the final product! SydneyHQ knows that if clubs like Carlton turn games into an arm-wrestle the broadcast talent budget will have to go through the roof, because the current set of slovenly downhill skiing spuds do not cut it!
As old mate Dylan states,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light!
By the way Lods, do you get the irony of the current barrage of media commentary talking about the unfair fixture, yet it's the very fixture they asked for?
