Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 11 2024 Post Game Postulations Carlton vs Gold Coast
Good  effort.  Small forward kicking goals, who would have thought. Our decision making going forward in the first half was poor.  Makes the opposition defence look good. If we could make good decisions and then deliver the ball then both Charlie and Harry would kick 100 goals. Only one bad decision coming out of defence but we got away with it. O.Hollands had a ripper of a game. Cincotta up forward was an interesting move. Didn't get a lot of the ball but probably shut down Gold Coast's attacking option coming out of defence. Williams was brought to the Club to be a defensive midfielder but kicking goals like Nick Duigan was a bonus. Big game next week.

That was an ordinary effort. I haven't been all in on Carlton this year but I was beginning to think we could go all right. In both the Sydney and Collingwood games we have been out tackled and I think our tackling has been pretty ordinary all year. You tackle with your body and not with just your arms. Once again our disposal, ball handling and decision making under pressure was poor. The missing of goals from 10 metres out directly in front deblitates the team. TDK had a shocker but should have received a free kick for a head high knock. Not sure how a guy gets his hands to the ball first and then gets the ball kicked out of his hands gets a free kick paid against him. Don't understand why the ball was not brought back when the bounce gave no chance for Pittonett to contest. Fantasia has been a disappointment and Durdin doesn't get near the ball often enough.
I think we have developed a very good list but I have been concerned about our lack of pace which has been getting addressed over the past couple of drafts. It is still a work in progress.  One reason I liked Fisher was that he did have some pace. What we lack are players with blistering pace.  Guys who can genuinely break the lines and run down opponents from behind. It is something I think we should be looking at.
Clearly it is time for everyone to strip off and jump into Ed Curnow's dam.

We seem to be able to attack or we can defend but we can't seem to attack and defend at the same time.  It seemed to me that 20 minutes into the third quarter Carlton stopped trying to kick goals. The midfield just wanted to have stoppages and the forwards were only interested in stopping the Melbourne defenders run. When only one side is trying to score only one side will. Our tackling was a lot better this week and we were a lot smarter going forward this week in the first two and a half quarters. O.Hollands is being caught too often while Pittonett had another good game though Gawn got on top late. Winning is always better than losing so this week was better than the past two but we need to learn to put our opponents away and stop trying to hold on from a long way out. We also seem to be getting taken apart by the opposition best player.  Rankine for Adelaide, Cameron for Geelong, Daicos for Collingwood and now Pertracca for Melbourne. Big game next week.

Let's be sure we ignore that against GWS Williams was subbed out for a knock on his achilles. That might have affected his performance. But King and the rest don't want to admit they made a mistake. Just as the AFL won't admit a mistake on the McKay 50 meters. He stood up and checked out his sore leg, he didn't stand the mark.
