Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Votes: Rd 19 Carlton V Fremantle
Team:   D
I was going to give the effort an 'E', but, but in the end, I relented. We weren't TOO bad for 3 quarters, but our last quarter was faecal in the extreme.
Unfortunately it looked like we weren't going to have a good day from very early in the game, but that is another issue altogether. That Freo, the most defensive team in the comp, kicked a lot of goals to beat us was very damning.

Votes:
[3]   Judd
2.5]   Tuohy
[2.5]   Scotland
[2.5]   Simpson
[2]   Robinson
[1]   Henderson
[0.5]   Armfield
[0.5]   Gibbs
[0.5]   Watson

Explanations:
I found this game very difficult to assign votes in. Basically, we didn't 'win' a single position, and although we had a few players who did well (Tuohy, Scotland, Simpson, Armfield, to mention most) and got a lot of the ball, they were also the guys (if you include Walker) who haemorrhaged goals. The small forwards for Freo kicked the goals and did a lot of damage. (Walters 4, Ballantyne 3, Hill 2, Neale 2, Suban 2)
Malthouse mentioned that at least 10 players had shockers: unfortunately he isn't far off the mark.
[3]   Judd:   Was one of our closest to winning his spot. Everything he did was class. 6 tackles and a some tough inside work shows just how important the guy still is to us.
[2.5]   Tuohy:   His 3 goals were rippers and the work he did in defence was great.
[2.5]   Scotland:   Probably his best game for the year, with 12 marks and a lot of effort.
[2.5]   Simpson:   Played well and gave some run from defence.
[2]   Robinson:   tried his guts out in the clinches and managed to get some good clearances. 7 tackles.
[1]   Henderson:   Had his man beaten if the ball got down there 1 on 1. Since that didn't happen....
[0.5]   Armfield:   Tried hard and gave some run.
[0.5]   Gibbs:   A fair bit of the ball, but he didn't have the touch today. Too many errors and was beaten when he shouldn't have been.
[0.5]   Watson:   Did better than most and lead much better than I've seen him do since the U18's.

Honourable Mentions:
Kreuzer:   tried hard, but he couldn't handle Sandilands at all and struggled to take a mark.
Garlett:   2 good goals and some run, but not enough.
Walker:   26 possessions, but got too carried away by Ballantyne and haemorrhaged goals.
Cachia:   9 tackles

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Baby Blues vs. Frankston at Frankston on Sunday
"All over at Frankston. The Blues kicked 8 goals to 2 in the final quarter, but it was too little too late. Frankston win by 13" from Matt Lodge. Sounds like the last quarter was worth the effort. The first 3 couldn't have been much good.

Some statistics:
Lambert 29, Marcon 23, Graham 23, Buckley 21, Gianfagna 21, O'Keeffe 21, Dale 20
As LP noted, it would have been much better of the better players were Carlton listed, but...
Nick Graham and Dylan Buckley can hold up their heads. O'Keefe can also feel pretty good, especially as it is only his 2nd game for the year.

Goal scorers: Buckley 2, Temay 2, Graham 2, Lambert 2, Wilson 2, Bell, Bransgrove, Mitchell

Frankston 16. 8. (104) defeated Northern Blues 13. 13. (91).
Bad kicking is bad football and we have ourselves to blame.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 19 : Blues Lose To Frockers (Aftermatch Angst)
pretty fair effort tbh.
carrazzo down, murphy down, no amigo's, intense pressure and we were within 10 points at the final quarter.
Sorry tex, I can't agree with you here. We were ordinary.
Even our best players, Simpson, Tuohy, Scotland and Armfield, had to lower their colours, no matter how many possessions they had: they played on Freo's major goal kickers.
Walters 4, Ballantyne 3, Hill 2, Neale 2, Suban 2
Smalls the lot of them, and the players our best were on (I should also include Walker in there, as he also shared that job and gave up goals).

We missed Carrots badly, but he hasn't been right for a while. This is a chance to get him right.
Our taggers had a tough night, with freo getting far too many stoppage wins.

No, we had a shocker. I can't find anything to appreciate from the debacle to be honest, not from the coaching staff, the fitness people or the players.

I noticed this wasn't up yet, so I lept in... sorry CRASH.

This game is in Frankston at 2pm at Frankston Oval, Frankston, Sunday Aug 4th.

Looking forward to shlepping down to 'Franganistan' to watch this one... from the grandstand that looks terrific from outside but is near useless to watch a game from!!!!
No worries, mate. I just merged them. Much easier than it used to be, thank God!

Weather is not looking brilliant, but the game is becoming really important.

Dodgy looking KP 's in the backline...Lourey and Haratuku will be happy to see Bootsma and the unknown Coulson named in those positions.....I'd play Micthell down back and see if he can show something.
They are probably licking their lips as we write.

I look at this and I am unconvinced. They are expecting a lot of Kreuzer. Two weeks ago I thought we had lost the game at the selection table: this week I just hope they know what they are doing. And I doubt it. But what do I know?

Duigan is missing: he got a 2 week suspension at the VFL tribunal during the week. I didn't see the incident, so I have no idea how justified it was. Maybe RR can shed some light on it?

Our team this weekend is quite small, especially as Bootsma is CHB and Dale is CHF. I don't know who is going to play on Haratuku yet: he beat Watson last time we played a few weeks ago.

Mitchell is named on the bench. I am not sure what that means, but he had only 1 possession last weekend, a handball.

Robert Heatley Stand / Baby Blues vs Willi: Last VFL game on Tv for the year?
Nothing is certain in the world of TV, but at the moment there is only 1 game set for Saturday 24th August at around 1:00 PM, and that is the Baby Blues vs. Williamstown at Willi.
That is the afternoon of the Essendon game, so hopefully a few enthusiastic Blues can get down to the ground.

It doesn't look like I will be able to make it, but I will follow closely on the box.

In advance, thank you to all of you who could make it to the games this year and given us a report: it has been a pleasure to read the information from people who are there, even when the reports are not as positive as I could hope.

Thank you also to Matt Lodge and co for the game information from twitter. This has been an excellent service this year. I have found it extremely informative and helpful.
