I love your enthusiasm, but if Fantasia comes in and has another 25pt rating game it's over for him the moment other players get fit.
If we are going to carry a player getting single digit disposals and having little game influence, it may as well be a longer term project. That's just how I see it.
Generally, you have some senior types around the club on the fringes, it is so they can come in and do a job having an immediate impact without the need to learn the ropes. As horrible as this sounds, we got more out of Tutt, Lang, Smedts maybe even Clem Smith than we have out of Fantasia for a similar number of games.
Agree LP. Better to play a young developing player than Fantasia. He has had enough chances and shown zip.
I would offload all 4 for whatever we can get. We just can't afford to carry them anymore. Williams & Martin pushing 30...it ain't going to improve from here. Replace them with youth
Yep. The one potent thing we're confronted with against the Fluffy Ducks is that they maintain pressure for four qtrs. We tend to have a lapse in just about every game, and that's all they will need to open up a lead... and keep it.
Spot on Baggers. If we bring 4 qtr effort we can win. We have had in game lapses in every game this year. Swans don't. The hard 4-5 week block we've had makes it harder but they are still beatable. Mids set up and kick most of their goals. Need to get it in quick to our forward line. Swans slice defences by clean ball movement so 4 qtr pressure non negotiable for us to win.
Just got home from the game, having a JD to settle the nerves. We did panic a bit in the last quarter and lost our structure. Take the win and the possitives from the first half and move on.
The Pies are better drilled and trust each other and their systems. We are not there yet, but there is hope. F#$k I hate losing to Collingwood and I wish we had a Nick Daicos.
Overall happy with the changes except Fantasia. Doesn't deserve a recall, however I suspect the discussion with him is let's find out what he can bring to the table in the first half of the season. If he doesn't lift in the next few weeks, I don't think you'll see him for the rest of the year unless there is a major injury crisis.
So the press has jumped on us now in regards to our poor defensive efforts in the last 4 weeks. Only North have given up more points in this time. Good article in The Age today no point posting link as you won't be able to access it unless you're a subscriber. I agree we have been poor but it is not that easy to fix. It's not just about the back 6, although losing Saad and McGovern certainly hasn't helped. When teams like Geelong and GWS slice through us from defence to there forward line, it is about our whole teams defensive efforts. And as I have been saying for a long time our lack of leg speed makes it hard to stop. We need players that can go with them when it gets turned over and we don't have many.
