Title: Rd 9: In Game Angst: Carlton vs North Melbourne
Post by: crashlander on May 21, 2016, 10:31:26 am
I have missed a couple of game this year, unavoidably, it is true, but not what I really want to do. This is going to be another one: knee surgery yesterday left me unable to make it. Next week will be my daughter's 1st communion. Frustrating.
More frustrating is that we are not on free to air TV. Nichevo. I will be stuck in front of the computer screen tonight.

For those who can get there, enjoy! I will be thinking of you.

I am hoping that Gorringe can do something.

We are on. 2 inside 50s to none, but no score yet.

Goal to Dale Thomas!

Goal to Ziebel. We are now behind, 6 points to 7 points.
Ziebel 4 possessions. :(

Goal to Brown. :(

Down in clearances 1 to 5. Down on contested ball 5 to 10.

We have had 10 more possessions so far: all handballs.
Title: Re: Rd 9: In Game Angst: Carlton vs North Melbourne
Post by: crashlander on May 21, 2016, 07:38:07 pm
Now we've had double the possessions, and Curnow kicked a point. Everyone except Weitering and Walker have had a touch.

We've had 2 taps, while they've had 7. Gorringe has 1 tap, Thomas has the other.

No goals for 10 minutes.

I should have crap up: goal to Lindsay Thomas.

7 possessions to Byrne.

We are down 0 centre clearances to 5. :(
Title: Re: Rd 9: In Game Angst: Carlton vs North Melbourne
Post by: crashlander on May 21, 2016, 07:48:42 pm
We kick points, they kick goals.

Carlton 1 - 2 - 8
North 4 - 1 - 25

As expected, Goldstein is killing us. No centre clearances to us still.
Title: Re: Rd 9: In Game Angst: Carlton vs North Melbourne
Post by: crashlander on May 21, 2016, 07:52:51 pm
Carlton 2 - 2 - 14
North 4 - 2 - 26

Walker gets a goal. Possessions have evened up somewhat, but it is the clearances that are the difference.
Goal to Brown
Carlton 2 - 2 - 14
North 5 - 2 - 32

Every Blues now has at least 1 possession.

Looking ominous. 5 goals to the Kangabies in the first qtr so far... gulp.

Quarter time and my fears look to be realized: Goldstein is the difference.

Carlton 2 - 2 - 14
North 5 - 3 - 33

We have done OK around the ground, but we are being killed in the middle. Goldstein has given them advantage every single time.
Our tackles are up, but we can't get the initiative.

Gunna get ugly I think, not getting much of a go from the germs in green though. Wouldn't mind Lindsay Thomas getting a whack in the chops...would be well deserved I reckon.

Not sure what is wrong with 1AW, if you want to play forward you have to take responsibility for the shots, looks like he doesn't want the kick!

The endeavour is there , but we are plain & simply undermanned , North are not 8-0 for nothing , as long as the effort is there , and we learn that's almost a win for us.

I don't think Jacob W is quite ready to come back, seems to be lacking a lot of confidence that he had before his shoulder

Certainly matching them in some of the general play, but a difference in experience / class shows out at times

Don't look composed at all.
Some still carrying old baggage with 1st thoughts of going sideways without looking up the ground.
Tackling not flash either.
Weitering looks tentative.  Cripps too.
Murph playing well and Sumners been great.Daisy been good.

Too many having an off night.

Sumner is showing his worth. Gorringe is doing the best he can. I think they have Rowe going against Goldstein and being a bit more physical. Byrne, Plowman, White are sticking to the task but the flow of the ball into the defence makes it hard.  Cripps looks like he could be struggling. Weitering looks a little under done.

If we cook this kid by playing him when he is not ready, in games we are not expected to win, during a season we are not expected to be competitive in, I'll personally tear some new ones at CFC headquarters.

In the words of Radiohead, thanks to the umpires we have been CRUSHED LIKE A BUG ON THE GROUND.  Six 50/50 decisions in a row went their way in that 2nd q.

Gibbs went back into his shell that q. after seemingly breathing fire in the first.  I wish Cripps didn't feel the need to go up in the ruck.
Title: Re: Rd 9: In Game Angst: Carlton vs North Melbourne

Half Time and we have problems:
Carlton 3 - 4 - 22
North 8 - 9 - 57

We had some good patches, but the difference in in the middle.
Kerridge and Docherty 16 possessions, Gibbs 14, Byrne 13, Thomas 12, Murphy 11. But the difference is the ruck, where Goldstein has killed us. Gorringe and co have done OK around the ground, but at the centre bounce we have been obliterated. They have 4 goals from centre clearances.
7 frees to 14 doesn't help either.
Title: Re: Rd 9: In Game Angst: Carlton vs North Melbourne
Post by: ElwoodBlues1 on May 21, 2016, 08:44:33 pm
Sumner has been good....Scott has done his home work on our small defenders trying to cheat off their men...Thomas and Harvey have slipped away a couple of times and been unmanned and they dont need many opportunities to punish us on the scoreboard..

Petrie and Waite havent done much but the 3rd member of their tall forwards in Brown has flogged us...

Gorringe is a reasonable athlete and footballer but hasnt got much idea in the ruck but hasnt been disgraced...

Just have to hang tough and keep it respectable...

Despite being undermanned, we stepped it up in the last 10/60 before half time.
The effort and tenacity has been there, but not the polish.
I agree Weits and Crippa look tentative possibly not 100%. Walker.... making some poor decisions. Curnow, Burns, Gibbs, Kerridge, Plow, Doc are looking the goods.
Sumner's a jet and Armfield's pressure is solid.

May Gorringe learn what to aspire to tonight.

Keep up the pressure Blues.

We've probably had 50% of the possession time but we burn the ball badly. We have too many $500K/yr footballers who cannot hit targets by foot from 25m, it's time to retire a few sooner rather than later.

It's because they cry, whine and whinge more than any other team in the league.

Even more than Nthmond, and that is saying something! :o

Frustrating when we do the hard thing and waste the kick at goal, a least 3-4 easy misses hard to give any scoreboard pressure at that rate

3/4time and Jones gets his 2nd!
Carlton 6 - 5 - 41
North 13 - 10 - 88

Kerridge 23 possessions, Docherty 22, Gibbs 19, Simpson, Byrne, Wright, Curnow 18,
Murphy relatively quiet with 14.

Just looking at the stats, all I can do tonight, it is clear a few of our boys are not 100%. Weitering, even though he appears to be doing a job, Cripps, and others. We are just a bit undermanned and it shows.

2 quick goals to North. How? Guess!

They have almost caught up with possessions, but considering that we can't get any 1st possessions, we are not as bad as the scoreboard makes us look.

We're just not switched on at the start of qtrs tonight. North have got multiple goals early in each of the 2nd, 3rd and last qtrs. That part isn't good enough.

Yes, we've started each quarter poorly, which we cannot afford to do against a good side.

Interesting to see who in situations/heat like this lacks skill, courage, fails to adhere to the team structures and ethic, etc.

How undermanned we are is very apparent tonight. Though you can see a strong backline developing well... they've been swamped.

I wonder if anyone else has seen the couple of occasions that Everitt actually squibbed it? The inadequacies of Lamb and Gorringe are pretty clear to see. And, gee, Andrew Walker is very out of touch.

Very important.

In hindsight you'd go Wood ahead of Gorringe. Wood might not have beaten Goldstein but would've at least held his own like he does most times.
