Title: Baby Blues vs Willi: Last VFL game on Tv for the year?
Post by: crashlander on August 01, 2013, 12:23:47 pm
Nothing is certain in the world of TV, but at the moment there is only 1 game set for Saturday 24th August at around 1:00 PM, and that is the Baby Blues vs. Williamstown at Willi.
That is the afternoon of the Essendon game, so hopefully a few enthusiastic Blues can get down to the ground.

It doesn't look like I will be able to make it, but I will follow closely on the box.

In advance, thank you to all of you who could make it to the games this year and given us a report: it has been a pleasure to read the information from people who are there, even when the reports are not as positive as I could hope.

Thank you also to Matt Lodge and co for the game information from twitter. This has been an excellent service this year. I have found it extremely informative and helpful.

+1

The club is doing better in this area.  Credit to them and Matt.   As you said Crash it's a great help for people that can't get to games.

Luke Mitchell has lined up in the Northern Blues development team. Papers stamped?

"Mitchell starts with a solid first quarter. 2 great contested clunks on the lead, 1 leading to a lovely goal from 35 out." - Matt Lodge

I can't see him with us next year. He has gone so far backwards it is not funny.
Still hope he has a good game for the Baby Blues 2's.

Matt Lodge's description of Luke Mitchell's game after every quarter.

Mitchell quieter that quarter, but the boys looking for him most times. Battling a regular 2 on 1 but created 2 goals.

Mitchell again looming large but only able to muster a couple of touches that quarter:  6 touches, 3 marks and a goal.

Game over. @NBluesFC development lose by 27 points. Just the 1 goal for Mitchell, tough second half with not many opportunities.

turns out he quietened down after a decent first quarter. on this form it would take a miracle for him to stay on the list next year.

Watching this game on the tube.  Explains a lot about our senior boys strategy of long bomb to the forward line  ::). Just comes straight back out.

Just grabbed the laptop to post the same thing. We need to get better at hitting players in space. The hack kick is a feature in both the 1's and the 2's.

Also, watching McCarthy move and play is like watching that "Embarrasing Bodies" TV show. You cover your eyes half the time and cringe the other half.

Can now see for myself why Laidler is not getting a senior game.

I'm liking Temay's tackling and pressure. He definitely lifted in the second quarter.

Lambert, Marcon and Dale also playing well.

Interesting to hear the Bumbers VFL team suffer the same fate as the AFL team, had not even considered that!

A few of the better players left once the Blues took over.

Need a stand alone team with a proper coach...Luke Webster isnt up to it IMO and I'd be looking at someone like Rohan Welsh to develop our kids properly or offering a potential retiring player like Heath Scotland the job.

Looks like his knee is still giving him trouble more than anything else.

Ill be happier when we have less blokes that are confidence players who only play well when everything is in their favour.  Might explain our sides lack of backbone over the years.

That's what I thought of Lucas' game this week and last - looking very disinterested.

Some solid triers but not much else - very disappointing.

Carlton-listed players in descending order of usefulness

The first 2 played well enough to be considered for senior selection next round if there are any vacancies.

David Ellard = One of the better players but nowhere near one of his better games.
Jaryd Cachia = Solid midfield performer
Tom Temay = Tried hard – showed a bit but doesn’t seem to have the physical attributes to create high expectations
Marcus Davies = Tried hard
Jeff Garlett = Flashed in and out
Sam Rowe = Tried hard
Rhys O’Keeffe = Tried hard and showed more than most
Frazer Dale = Tried hard – I guess that’s better than some.
Jeremy Laidler = Tried hard
Josh Bootsma = Tried hard but completely out-pointed
Kane Lucas = Very disappointing lack of effort - insipid
Pat McCarthy = Offered about the same as Mitchell when he was up forward and was as ineffective as Bootsma in defence
Luke Mitchell = Best contribution he has made since the last time he was left out of the team – shame his replacement gave a similar contribution.

Thanks for the summary, RR. I can't help but be disappointed, especially as the guys were playing for a finals' spot. Looks like it will be a quiet September for the boys in Blue.
We don't deserve to be there, which frustrates me no end.

2013 AFL Victoria Development League
Williamstown   5.2  7.6  10.11  13.19 (97)
Northern Blues   3.2  8.5  10.6  10.10 (70)

GOALS:
Williamstown: Conway 4 Gallucci 2 Polizzi 2 Burgess  Nastasi  Stockdale  Christodoulou  Hoghton
Northern Blues: Clark 3 Delahunty 2 Bonaddio  Wilson  Visser  Totevski  Mitchell

BEST:
Williamstown: Conway Critchley Masters Woods Hoghton Giles
Northern Blues: Marchbank Visser Soncin Clark Currie Bonaddio

2013 Peter Jackson VFL
Williamstown   6.4  11.4  14.7  17.9 (111)
Northern Blues   1.1  4.5  7.9  11.15 (81)

GOALS:
Williamstown: Jones 6 Hrovat 2 Anastasio 2 Jolley 2 Veszpremi  Wood  Roberts  Jong  Symes
Northern Blues: Dale 2 Rowe 2 Temay 2 Marcon  Garlett   Gianfagna  Laidler  Lambert

BEST:
Williamstown: Wheeler Pearce Wood Charleston Talia McNamara
Northern Blues: Lambert Dale Davies Gianfagna McCarthy Laidler

In the end, a 30 point loss is probably not that bad. Our kicking, as is often the case, for poor, as we butchered our shots at goal. Like the seniors.
Willi will be premiership contenders. But that doesn't make things feel any better.
