Goal kickers 2020

OK, so Lods didn't do his list this year and i don't think its had much coverage otherwise, so i thought i'd compile a fwe things re our goalkickers for 2020.

Firstly, Harry McKay wins it and is our first dual winner since Eddie Betts in 2010+2012, and our first back to back winner since Fev in 2008+2009.

He won it with 21 goals, which is our lowest total since 1964 when Ian Nankervis won it with 18. Incidentally, thats the last time the Dees won a flag.  :o Although to be fair to Harry, it was a shortened season....and he did miss games.

So here is our Top 10 list.....(conversion G+B) [Adj. Conv: G+B+misses]
21.15 (58%) [43%] - Mckay (13 games) @ 1.6 goals/game
16. 8  (66%) [46%] - Casboult (17) @ 0.94
13. 4 (76%) [72%] - Newnes (17) @ 0.76
13.13 (50%) [39%] - Betts (15) @ 0.87
12.11 (52%) [43%] - Martin (15) @ 0.80
11. 6 (65%) [52%] - Gibbons (15) @ 0.73
 9. 2 (82%) [56%] - McGovern (12) @ 0.75
 8. 4 (67%) [61%] - Walsh (17) @ 0.47
 7.11 (39%) [33%] - Cripps (17) @ 0.41
 6. 6 (50%) [40%] - Cuningham (12) @ 0.50

Fun fact the following defenders all had at least 1 shot on goal this year
Plowman (3 shots)
Williamson (2)
Jones (2)
Docherty (1)
Simpson (1)
Weitering (1)
Polson (1)

Yet only Williamson (1.1) and Simpson (1.0 in his last game!) were able to find the big sticks

That is a backline total of 2.8....which is perhaps why they are in the backline. ;)
FWIW, SPS didn't have a shot on goal.

Lets see what a difference it makes in 2021 with Charlie pushing Harry for top honours...

Thanks Kruddler.
Good to see a tally.
Hopefully McKay can double it in a full season next year.

The reason for not doing the Goaltracker this year was the shortened quarters and the shortened season.
It's more a comparison thread from year to year.
Total goal tallies for both team and individuals would have been down.

Our goal tally of 146 is the lowest since 1923 when we scored 136 goals in a sixteen game season.
McKay's 21 is the lowest season tally since Ian Nankervis kicked only 18 in 18 games in 1964.

Averages would also have been affected with less playing time.
Hopefully there will be a return to normality by 2021 although there is some talk of quarters remaining shorter...18 minutes has been suggested

Levi for all his faults and limitations still posted a very respectable total given the shortened season/matches.

All we really need to do is stop the run ons from occurring in games, and we will generally achieve much better results.

If Harry had played all 17 games and kept the same goal kicking average per game then he would have finished with 27 goals and in the top ten of AFL goal kickers for 2020.

The stats should have three numbers;

(Goals).(Behind).(Complete Utter Disgraceful Misses)

I suspect that would change some of the positional ratings.

Those numbers are factored in to the 2nd % lp.
I can add it in next to the others if it makes a difference.

@kruddler thanks for the explanation, it's far more valuable than goals and behinds.

FMD, Newnes comes out on top based on both, then Walsh followed by Gibbons.

Best make sure Newnes can get the pill inside F50 as often as possible!

As a club we must be heavily motivated to get McGovern firing.

Think we need Charlie back and firing to get anywhere...he can kick bags and win the Coleman if we had some proper delivery and he can stay on the park..
I'd be more heavily motivated in firing McGovern.....

We were 9th for points score this year and for a long time the only side not to score below 50pts. We scored 1017 averaging 59.8 points per game.
