Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2017 Rd 9: Post Game Patter: Carlton vs Fremantle
Now we are trying to play an outdated Hawks gameplan which relies on keeping possession and uncontested marks.  They key now is to score through the corridor.

That is the key to winning games in May.   Not sure how it holds up in Finals or against top sides.  Happy for the aints, frockers and port to win when they are running in front of the footy, through the corridor, against bottom sides......  not going to get you far when the whips are cracking in the big games

Another thing was our skill level, especially when we were moving the ball across the back line and in the past we would miss our targets and turn it over due to poor execution, this seems to have been tidied up considerably.

Go blues!

I kept saying the exact same thing to my mates yesterday.  Little handballs and quick kicks out of packs were hitting targets.  And more importantly, no fumbles from blokes running past.  AND it was wet?? Looked completely different from some of our earlier games

Just a bit of confidence, and the skill level goes up??  Could that be it???

14 minutes to go in the last, Williamson attacks the contest when others were standing around looking, intercepts a swans handball gives to Samo who gives a beautiful delayed handball to Fisher who kicks a lovely left footer into the forward fifty. That was my favorite green shoot moment of the game.

Gibbs couldn't take the mark up forward of course!

Gibbs got mauled on that marking attempt!!!

Is there a different holding the ball rule for them than us?  We tackle and they drop it half a dozen times, for no call - fair enough that's how it is being called.  But then we get a couple in a row paid against us????

And don't get me started on Charlie's hand brushing Henney in that marking contest - in comparison to what cas and sos are copping at the other end

We really need a few blokes with some crap in them, we did well enough today to get the Dees worried enough to start sniping but seriously, Lewis should have been decked.  Off the ball, intentional, three weeks minimum if the MRP are half serious.

Still carry too much dead wood and passengers.  Too many can't tackle, are fumbly and use the ball very poorly.

Can someone answer me this?  Why wasnt it a free kick???

Noticed this today - Has there ever been a list with less under 26 year old talent then us?

Reckon we have about 6 in this bracket tops, with 5-6 in the over 27 bracket.

We have a handful of promising kids (like every team had) but once Simmo and co hang up the boots there's very little sitting behind them.

Cripps Doc Weitering Plowman and Bryne then there's daylight.

It's the lack of young mids that worries me. After murph, Cripps and Gibbs, who is coming through??? Cunningham? Boekurst?  I had hopes for summer, with a full preseason, but he is kicking dew at the moment.  Where are our gun kids who can get 20 posses on a wing and look classy, every other team seems to have them. Hopefully Sam ps is as good as advertised!!!   Those few poor drafts have really hurt us!!

The rising star award is useful for one thing... punting.

Apart from that it is meaningless. Lewis Taylor won it FFS.

The fact that it is voted for by "experts" at the end of the season, makes it meaningless.  It is like AA selection.  Just based on gut feeling, and not on any hard facts, or an analysis of game by game.  Easily influenced by who is talked up in the media....  I wouldnt be surprised if Nic Nat and Cyril get a few votes, just out of habit from the "experts"

As others have said - Daniel is a certainty - not only is he feel good factor (Doggies), but he will make a good story (little guy who was passed over!!)

Weiters should get a look in as he is a tall, who, while he may have fallen off a bit, is still a huge factor in holding together a pretty good back 6

BUT he wont

Young Jack wishing he was anywhere else but discussing with Dylan. ;D

Favourite player Fev ;)

"Shout out to Jo, if she's watching"

"She wont be"

This is potentially the worst 5mins of content going around.  BUT I CANT STOP WATCHING IT, each week!!!! Not sure why, but I always laugh pretty hard, no matter how bad it is.........

Cripps was a little quieter in the first half and wasn't able to get his usual clearances because Blicavs did a reasonable job of tagging him.  Cripps flogged Blicavs in the second half but played more as an outside mid.  I thought that he showed his versatility and was just outside my best five players.  Keeping Blicavs to no possessions in the second half is an exceptional effort.
He was a touch fumbly, though - which is very unlike him.  Might have just been that the heat at the contest was up another notch from any other game this year

Simon Whites last quarter... Wow! I've been a fan but we will be better when he moves on... But his last quarter was so amazing. Take a bow mate...

Gibbs running up to him both spent shows the spirit in this side.

Bolton is a genius.

Absolutely loved that - it was the sort of thing you see Hodge or Jonno Brown do - real Captains effort to get over to him and let him know how much his extra effort meant

How well did Rowe play when Casboult's role was entrusted upon him. Back in the role we originally recruited him for.

At one stage in the last, I thought we had Wayne Carey at CHF....... Rowe was clunking marks, crashing packs, kicking straight, marshalling the forward line........ then 20 secs later he was in the ruck, doing the same thing!!!!.........   There is NO way I saw that coming!!   At the start of the 3rd Q, we looked flat and I thought we were cooked - then Rowe and Jones start their  Dermie and Dunstall impersonations, for 25 minutes, and we had a fully functioning forward line for the first time since Fev left.

Turned to a mate, with about 5 mins to go, to ask him to check online, how much Rowe was paying for the Coleman!!!!

The 5 GWS guys - all potential 150 game players:

Plowman - 21 going 22. Will be a gun. Can play small and tall. #3 in his draft year. Looks shorter than 193cm but who cares!
Sumner - 22 going 23. injury riddled career thus far. Will get fitter and faster as he plays more. Has footy smarts and a good finisher. #10 in his draft (a Sandy lad)
Lamb - 23 going 24 - taken by Swans back when. Goal sneak, who finds the pill - could have kicked 4 yesterday.
Phillips - 24 going 25 - injured but as they say, the big guys take longer. Can take a contested grab and mobile around the ground.
Jaksch - 21 (only) going on 22. 196cm KPP swingman. Everyone seems frustrated with this lad. not sure why, still very young and needs to bulk up a bit (but then a guy like Dustin Fletcher was never 'bulky'). Hopefully will play seniors this weekend with the Bolt and Weitering sidelined.

Plowman and Sumner didnt have pre-seasons, either.  With a pre-season under their belt, they can step it up another notch, next year

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 7: Post Game Pleasure: Carlton vs Collingwood
I have posted before, if we can come away with a solid back half after year 1 of a rebuild we're doing very well.

Docherty, Weitering, Plowman and Byrne. That's a 10 year backline, we need to add a lockdown small defender and another big and we have a group that will grow together.

With the forward line, they are mostly speculative - Curnow, McKay and Silvagni could be anything or nothing, add in Boekhurst as a HFF/Wing and we have building blocks. Again need another big and two small forwards, and this draft seems to be full of small forwards with pace who can pinch hit in the midfield.

Mids is where we need the most help, quality ball users with speed and grunt x 4, cause they're soooo easy to get   ::)

Hogg  Silvagni  Mckay
Sexton  Dean   Christou

XXX       XXXX       Byrne
Docherty Weitering  Plowman

That '95 back 6 played together for seemingly forever, never got hurt and were the major strength of that team.   if we could just add a couple more (or manufacture one, in the case of a good BP), then the back 6 is starting to look verry similar...........  great signs!!!
