A few things.

We seem to fall over a lot.

Setters was annoying to watch - no hard attack - but turned it up in the last.

Weiters is so solid, I just love this bloke. He is a a true leader.

Very happy for Cripps when he got that goal, great kick.

When Charlie and Jack are back where does McGovern the decoy fit in..?
Kennedy deserves a game ahead of McGovern, his forward work is under rated. The Gov is surplus and when you look at McAdam who we gave up from the Crows in terms of talent I know who  I would rather have.

Before we think about giving Gov the flick, we gotta try him in defence.

I just got an email from Crippa and Doc.  Among other things, they wrote;

“We’ve been in every game, we now expect to win every game and know our best is good enough to mix it with anyone in the competition.”

I think they are right, provided we don’t give opposition teams a start, sort out our kicks inside 50 and improve our goal kicking accuracy.

It was a good win but it would have been a travesty if we had lost.  It goes a little way towards making up for the last two losses.

Plowman was outstanding but it was our defensive pressure all over the ground that enabled him to play as he did.  Good signs indeed  :)
“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”  Oddball

A few interesting things about McGovern
His stats aren't dramatically different from his Adelaide time...he's down a bit on averages (especially this year)
At 191cm he's a player that 'plays tall' for that height. He has a good leap.
The surprising thing for me was that he's only played the 74 games.

Yep.

We have to remember the age of the likes of Casboult and Jones, McGovern is only 25, just 3 years older than McKay!

Fans talk about McGovern like he is a 28 year old, he is 3 years away from being prime age for a KPP!

His Adelaide time included playing in the best forward setup in the comp with Walker, Jenkins , Lynch and Eddie....IMo he didnt have to work too hard and was given Rolls Royce delivery with a very decent midfield....kicking straight was his only job.
He has come here and its a whole new ball game having to work harder with young kids as company down forward and a worn out Eddie and he cant handle it.  One kick vs a no name Swans defense...lucky his name is McGovern and he can milk his brother Jeremy's reputation because if it was Callum Moore he would be in front of a firing squad of angry Blues supporters. Sadly Moore would give you more effort.
Excuse..he is a decoy,....Solution lets hide him down in the backline...maybe he can play down back this week on Shane McAdam who we gave away for this overpaid decoy, not only has McGovern failed to deliver but McAdam looks a real talent just to rub salt into the whole deal.
I'd try and include McGovern in a deal to get Papley, Cerra or something that  resembles a footballer rather than a decoy.

We had two shots for a goal in the first quarter that we essentially touched on the line - Fish and Murph - bad kicking in that they needed to be kicked higher, but not as bad as Cas' miss.  If one of those is a goal, the whole game is different.

The worst bit was when Syd went from 3 goals to 7 very quickly.

TDK - does amazing things to our system!

McGovern is in horrible form as we all know.  One thing he can do is stop whinging.  Two missed tackles - whinges to umpire for free kicks that would have been there had he held the tackle.  In a scrum, whinges because he thinks he got an arm to the throat - there were several others.  Stop it and concentrate on getting the footy and then using it well.

The commentators' focus on Blakely's shoulder was interesting.  He did the first one himself when he ran into Setters - it was good to see some solid tackles on Blakely after that.  Also good to see that last free to Syd be called out, particularly by Dunstall as one that shouldn't have been paid.  Loved Cripps' 'Fckn bsht' comment to the umps.

If Plowman is such a dud and smashed Papley, why would we want Papley? ;D  Did Owies show enough?

teague and coaches should be really concerned / 7 goals start to a young side missing 4 stars . If he kicks straight from that free we lose .
True enough. There was plenty of reason to be concerned, but do not we have multiple top end players out and have effectively for the year?
Matthew Kreuzer - our #1 ruckman
Nick Newman - last year's best small defender
Charlie Curnow - the man touted as our next superstar.
Brodie Kemp - our top draft choice
Caleb Marchbank - also highly rated
and that doesn't include a number who have missed a lot of the season.

We were expected to be ordinary this year when Kreuzer went down in the 1st quarter of the first game. Yet, somehow, we've managed to be competitive. There isn't a side in the competition who can claim to have been more effected by injury than we have, although some get close.
And look at Crippa and you see a guy who hasn't been 100% at any time this year and has still played.

Truly, we have much to learn from that first quarter and a half, especially when it comes to hitting targets. Last week we kept kicking the ball to GWs defenders instead of our forwards. We did it again for much of this round. But Sydney have no more injury concerns than we have.
Live Long and Prosper!

Don't mind that Iaj.   I was looking for someone to blame last night.   Barker (Stoppages), Bruce (Forwards) or Stanton (Midfield and Transition) or a combination of all.

We need to get the ball in the hands of better users.     Need O'Brien to come on.

Martin is going to be a massive lose.   He is so important to our structure.  For his size he has a great set of hands.   8 marks from 49% game time.   He links up so well between defense and attack.    We really have no one else who can do what he can do.
And can lay a tackle.

I think he's very capable of being a very good/elite 3rd tall.

But for whatever reason his time at CFC has been close to embarrassing.
I think I have mentioned this before but I think at times he tries too hard and comes a guts (no pun intended). And by that I mean things like he may run too hard at a lead or to a contest and run under the ball. Or try too hard to spoil and gives away a free.  But yes, his performance is embarrassing (or hard to watch at least). Im sure the talent is in there somewhere, its just not happening.
