Title: Jim Park Voting 2023 AFL Rd 14 Carlton vs Gold Coast
Post by: crashlander on June 16, 2023, 09:40:42 pm
Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos:
[1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Sam Walsh or Patrick Cripps)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.

Hopefully we'll have guys to vote for.  :))

Hopefully we have some people who want to vote! We know what we have to do for that to be the case.

It is going to easier to identify guys guys who deserve votes this week, but not everyone is going to get a mention. I'd much rather than this problem than the struggle to find performances fit for a mention that has been our lot in recent weeks.

AFL Rd 14:   Carlton vs Gold Coast
Team:   A
Considering how we’ve been playing; I can’t score this effort any lower. Seriously, we played as good as any team this entire year. That second quarter was brilliant!

Votes:
It is going to be hard to give votes this week because so many players deserved a mention. I prefer it this way!
[2]   Adam Cerra
[1.5]   Matthew Kennedy
[1.5]   Jacob Weitering
[1.5]   Patrick Cripps
[1.5]   Sam Docherty
[1.5]   Sam Walsh
[1]   Brodie Kemp
[1]   Nic Newman
[0.5]   Adam Saad
[0.5]   Matthew Cottrell
[0.5]   Harry McKay
[0.5]   Tom de Koning
[0.5]   Jordan Boyd
[0.5]   Mitch McGovern
[0.5]   Paddy Dow

Explanations:
[2]   Adam Cerra:      An excellent game from Cerra; 27 disposals, 6 tackles and 8 clearances. A Cripps-like effort in the middle against a good midfield.
[1.5]   Matthew Kennedy:   An excellent game from Kennedy as well: 27 disposals, 9 clearances and 2 tackles. 9 clearances is more than the team managed last week!
[1.5]   Jacob Weitering:   Totally dominated one of the better forwards in the competition and produced real drive from defence.
[1.5]   Patrick Cripps:      27 possessions, 4 tackles and 7 clearances to go with 3 goals. A big effort after being down for weeks.
[1.5]   Sam Docherty:   32 possessions from Doc and not so many clangers. A strong game from Doc.
[1.5]   Sam Walsh:      Walsh’s best game for the year by some margin. 19 possessions, 3 tackles and 5 clearances.
[1]   Brodie Kemp:      Kemp had a really good game in defence, with his intercept marks and run. 20 possessions and 9 marks.
[1]   Nic Newman:      Nic Newman continues to play great games. We’ve missed him when he was injured.
[0.5]   Adam Saad:      Didn’t have to do as much but did what he did very well.
[0.5]   Matthew Cottrell:   A good game after a few quiet weeks. His goal kicking was a big positive.
[0.5]   Harry McKay:      Not a huge game, but he kicked 3 and di some great work in the forward line.
[0.5]   Tom de Koning:   2 goals and a good effort in the ruck against one of the game’s best ruckmen.
[0.5]   Jordan Boyd:      Loved his run from defence.
[0.5]   Mitch McGovern:   Intercept marking was excellent, but a few bad kicks in the second half, or he’d deserve more votes.
[0.5]   Paddy Dow:      8 possessions in less than a quarter and hit targets, the thing he has found most difficult. Very positive.

Honourable Mentions:
Jack Martin:      Might still be struggling for fitness, but he really provided a option in the forward line. Not getting enough ball, but each possession was excellent.
David Cuningham:   Not as many possessions as I hoped, but still a very positive return after such a long time. He showed plenty.
Lachie Fogarty:   Didn’t have the number of possessions but did a good job and made a real contribution.
Charlie Curnow:   If he’d kicked straight … Nichevo. Charlie played a very selfless game this week.
Blake Acres:      Solid on the wing and didn’t turn the ball over as much as he can do.
Alex Cincotta:      Provided some nice run and carry from defence.
