Woops... forgot Graham - good, again, but looked a little tired at times. Tried up forward as a 'small forward' and looked likely, though on one occasion, running into an open goal tried to do the team thing with a cute pass to a team mate that went astray.
...and Robbo - was really disciplined and focussed. Took a terrific attitude into the game - good to see. Encouraging to team mates.
You'd look hard at, for a call up: Robbo Meat ROK Dinger (interesting that all 4 have a dash of mongrel and are hard at it).
Many thanks, Baggers. Nice to read something positive after yesterday's disaster. At least a few guys put up their hands to replace Judd next week.
It is really nice to see the Baby Blues winning because it does suggest we are not just a spiritless group of individuals.

I don't see a lot of the Northern Blues game but I check results. This Lambert bloke is always mentioned in the best. What's his history? Chance to get drafted?
I think he is a monty to be picked up. Just hope we are smart enough to do it.

A must win game this one: lose this and the finals are going to be very hard to get to.
Nice to see Ellard, McInnes and Collins back from injury. I am a little surprised that Graham didn't get a gig, but he is emergency.
Panesar, who had been part of the Sussex team defeated by Derbyshire in three days in a match that ended on Sunday, then walked up to the promenade above the club and urinated on the bouncers.
I would be very tempted to drop Eddie Betts: his form since he was out has been very poor. We can't afford to have so many non contributors.
I have questions over the fitness of Carrots, Murphy and Yarran. I'd like to have enough players in the VFL to come up to cover them, to give them time to get over their niggles, but I doubt that will happen. I'd like to have Warnock in. Kreuzer got toweled up last week. Minson is in almost career best form, so I'd like to have more than 1 option in the ruck. Just having 1 in a situation like this is a point source error. We had enough of that last week when Kreuzer couldn't handle Sandilands. No need for repeats. The Dogs don't have much in the way of tall forwards - I don't see any match ups for Watson, unless the MC want him to play forward again.
I'd like to give Buckley, Menzel or Graham a go. Buckley is producing more often (although not often enough), Menzel needs a senior workout (I'd rather have him find real form for the Baby Blues, but...) and Graham deserves a go with his form. I doubt we'll pick all 3.
Sorry, in my opinion, Murphy is not fit, and shouldnt be playing. I decided this whilst watching him "run" against Freo.
There is more than one reason why he had such a bad game, and Crowley is only part of the equation. When a player like Murphy is limping around the field for more than half the game, there is a problem. I suspect it has been one for him since before we played Port Adelaide too.
Murphy hasn't been right for some time now. he had that injury high up on his hamstring a few weeks back. Instead of having a proper rehab, he rushed himself back. Personally, I think it would have done him good to rehab it properly and get fit. he has struggled since then, clearly not being 100%: he hasn't really got over the cheekbone yet either. However, he is the Captain and he has gone out of his way to play.

See I saw Yarran in the change rooms after the game, he could hardly walk and his lower leg was iced to the max. Does he qualify for some leeway as well? Pretty sure everyone just wrote it off and said stiff sht, you take the field it's bad luck.
With regards to murphy's supposed ankle problem from the Saints game, he had 4 weeks off I'm sure that would've healed it.
To be honest, Yazz hasn't been 100% for some time either. The way he has been walking and sometimes 'trotting' for the last month suggests he isn't close to full pace. He has done a few sprints in recent weeks but has struggled to put distance between himself and his opponents. It has also seemed to be a lot more work, from his facial expressions. I don't think he is going to be 100% until next season; it looks to me that he is carrying something. I may be wrong, but....
Unfortunately there are probably more guys who need rest to get over niggles, but they don't want to rest. They are aiming to play finals and pushing themselves with that in mind.
Personally, I don't think they should bother. I don't think we are good enough to make an impact on the finals series this year. I would be getting ready for next year. With a new fitness regime, some new blood and a better understanding of what Malthouse wants, we should be better.
Team: D I was going to give the effort an 'E', but, but in the end, I relented. We weren't TOO bad for 3 quarters, but our last quarter was faecal in the extreme. Unfortunately it looked like we weren't going to have a good day from very early in the game, but that is another issue altogether. That Freo, the most defensive team in the comp, kicked a lot of goals to beat us was very damning.
Explanations: I found this game very difficult to assign votes in. Basically, we didn't 'win' a single position, and although we had a few players who did well (Tuohy, Scotland, Simpson, Armfield, to mention most) and got a lot of the ball, they were also the guys (if you include Walker) who haemorrhaged goals. The small forwards for Freo kicked the goals and did a lot of damage. (Walters 4, Ballantyne 3, Hill 2, Neale 2, Suban 2) Malthouse mentioned that at least 10 players had shockers: unfortunately he isn't far off the mark. [3] Judd: Was one of our closest to winning his spot. Everything he did was class. 6 tackles and a some tough inside work shows just how important the guy still is to us. [2.5] Tuohy: His 3 goals were rippers and the work he did in defence was great. [2.5] Scotland: Probably his best game for the year, with 12 marks and a lot of effort. [2.5] Simpson: Played well and gave some run from defence. [2] Robinson: tried his guts out in the clinches and managed to get some good clearances. 7 tackles. [1] Henderson: Had his man beaten if the ball got down there 1 on 1. Since that didn't happen.... [0.5] Armfield: Tried hard and gave some run. [0.5] Gibbs: A fair bit of the ball, but he didn't have the touch today. Too many errors and was beaten when he shouldn't have been. [0.5] Watson: Did better than most and lead much better than I've seen him do since the U18's.
Honourable Mentions: Kreuzer: tried hard, but he couldn't handle Sandilands at all and struggled to take a mark. Garlett: 2 good goals and some run, but not enough. Walker: 26 possessions, but got too carried away by Ballantyne and haemorrhaged goals. Cachia: 9 tackles
"All over at Frankston. The Blues kicked 8 goals to 2 in the final quarter, but it was too little too late. Frankston win by 13" from Matt Lodge. Sounds like the last quarter was worth the effort. The first 3 couldn't have been much good.
Some statistics: Lambert 29, Marcon 23, Graham 23, Buckley 21, Gianfagna 21, O'Keeffe 21, Dale 20 As LP noted, it would have been much better of the better players were Carlton listed, but... Nick Graham and Dylan Buckley can hold up their heads. O'Keefe can also feel pretty good, especially as it is only his 2nd game for the year.
Goal scorers: Buckley 2, Temay 2, Graham 2, Lambert 2, Wilson 2, Bell, Bransgrove, Mitchell
Frankston 16. 8. (104) defeated Northern Blues 13. 13. (91). Bad kicking is bad football and we have ourselves to blame.
