Very ordinary for 3 quarters, but the last was almost good enough. We may have had almost 100 less possessions, but a lot of theirs were not dangerous. In the end, if McGovern hadn’t grazed the post, Melbourne would be bawling in their beer!

Votes:
Very hard, as there were so few 4 quarter players. So many players do nothing for 3 quarters, but made an impression late.
[3]   Jack Silvagni
[2.5]   Ed Curnow
[2.5]   Marc Murphy
[1.5]   Sam Walsh
[1.5]   Levi Casboult
[1]   Dale Thomas
[1]   Nick Newman
[1]   Will Setterfield
[0.5]   Matthew Kreuzer
[0.5]   Sam Petrevski-Seton

Explanations:
[3]   Jack Silvagni:   Jack did a great job in the middle in the first half and then kicked 3 goals after half time. He was a guy who was nearest to a 4-quarter player.
[2.5]   Ed Curnow:   Ed started terribly, but lifted well. He was very good in the clinches.
[2.5]   Marc Murphy:   Murphy had to deal with some very ordinary and illegal tactics, but when he made a centre break, things happened.
[1.5]   Sam Walsh:   Sam worked very well and tried to do a more Cripps-like role this week. It meant his disposal efficiency was down somewhat, but he still managed to produce some pin-point kicks when they were necessary. They really worked him over, but he still got the ball.
[1.5]   Levi Casboult:   Marking and kicking were pretty good today. I think he is more valuable in defence, but we actually have tall defenders at the moment.
[1]   Dale Thomas:   Started really well but faded in the 2nd and 3rd. Really good again in the last.
[1]   Nick Newman:   For 3 quarters Newman’s disposal wasn’t that bad, but as we came home in the last, his disposal became terrible. Still, he was very good at smothering the Melbourne small forwards.
[1]   Will Setterfield:   Will was terrible early; his opponents got kick after kick because he didn’t respect them. Move forward late and Will produced 3 good goals. Had he tried just that bit harder, he would have had a 4th in those last few minutes.
[0.5]   Matthew Kreuzer:   Beaten in the by Preuss, but he kept going. His clearances were excellent and he real lift in the last quarter almost got us over the line.
[0.5]   Sam Petrevski-Seton:   Not enough until the last quarter. Absolutely robbed of a great mark early through poor umpiring. Needs to do more for longer.

Honourable Mentions:
Kade Simpson:   Not Simmo’s best game, especially that last kick that killed us, but he held his opponents well.
Lochie Plowman:   Plow was terrible early, giving away goals with intercepted possessions. However, he lifted and was solid.
Liam Jones:   When your opponent kicks 5 goals, it usually means that you are well beaten. But that wasn’t the case at all. Most of McDonald’s goals were not his fault: dubious frees, 50 m penalties and Carlton kicks that landed on McDonald’s chest made Liam look a lot worse than he was.
Matthew Kennedy:   Like a lot of our guys, he didn’t do enough for long enough, but he had 6 scoring shots, a couple of goals and actually looked dangerous late in the game. Could easily have managed three or four more frees within goal kicking range. Early in the game he was getting cold because the ball didn’t get near him!
Fisher: Not enough, but when he was hot, he was as bright as the sun! Maybe deserved the last half vote more that SPS: I flipped a coin.

I've only just watched the last quarter (was travelling yesterday).

Thought it was a great kick by Kennedy and Setters should have completed the mark - that said, there was clear head high contact from the defender....

A game we should have one being ahead with 3.00 on the clock - major blunder by Simmo.
Finals, then 4 in a row!

I though Levi was very important this week - kicked three, and he had actually marked the ball when Setterfield got a free on the edge of the goalsquare, so would have had 4.

And now, when Silvagni's in a one-on-one, you get the feeling he will win most of them.

Finally, how long since we rated the team a C or D and been in front with 2 mins to go.....?
This is now the longest premiership drought in the history of the Carlton Football Club - more evidence of climate change?

Setters didn't read the ball at all well, but that is another tale for another thread.
As for Simmo's kick, it only needed to be a couple of metres higher and the job would have been done. There was only one Melbourne player in the area and it landed right on top of him. :(
Anyway, that is for another thread.
