Title: 2015 Jim Park Voting
Post by: crashlander on April 10, 2015, 11:45:26 am
Thanks you to all of you who have voted for the Jim Park Medal. our B & F Award. Without your thoughts this award would not be possible. It was gratifying to see so many willing to put their thoughts to cyberspace after last week's disappointment.
I hope to see this (relative) enthusiasm continue. Compared to Round #1 last year, the number of voters increased by 71 %.

So, here are the tallies, as completed this morning.

Round #1: Carlton vs. Richmond   :(
315 - Docherty, Sam
249 - White, Simon
176 - Judd, Chris
58 - Bell, Tom
57 - Wood, Cameron
43 - Simpson, Kade
41 - Carrazzo, Andrew
27 - Gibbs, Bryce
8 - Henderson, Lachie
7 - Yarran, Chris
6 - Menzel, Troy
3 - Curnow, Edward
3 - Jones, Liam

Clearly Simon White and the Doc were rated our best players. From memory, I don't think either has had this honour until now: a positive sign for a our future.
Juddy was clear 3rd, and this his game was good, it was clear that it was nothing like the efforts that have won him awards in the past.
Voting drops away significantly after that.
Liam Jones managed to garner his first votes for his new club: hopefully the sign of better things to come.

Out effort was not highly rated: 6.59.
This represents a rating between an E+ and  D-, also a reasonably accurate assessment of our night's results. Hopefully we can see a significant improvement in this value in coming weeks.

Thanks for taking this on Crash.  It is a feature of CSC that I really value, even after a loss.

It's interesting that there is such a consensus on the best three but some left field results at the bottom of the list.  Well, that's football and football supporters  :)

Seconded. Even in frustration of a loss, this is something I enjoy. Gives me a chance to analyse my thoughts on the game and players impacts, but also I love seeing how other people viewed individual output.

No problem.
Hopefully we still feel the same enthusiasm after Round #23. :)

Our effort rating was 5.96, just under and E. Call it an E-. Quite justified and not as good as in Round #1.
We had 17 voters this week, only 1 different to this time last year. Somehow I think that shows we started pretty poorly then as well. :(

So, to the nitty gritty:

Round #2: Carlton vs. West Coast in Perth.
Docherty, Sam 226
Judd, Chris 170
Simpson, Kade 156
Everitt, Andrejs 156
Gibbs, Bryce 72
Tuohy, Zach 42
Casboult, Levi 30
Yarran, Chris 23
Bell, Tom 12
Wood, Cameron 4
Ellard, David 2
Murphy, Marc 2

This is a very small spread of votes, which suggest, correctly, that we had relatively few contributors. That Judd could vote so well when he only did well in 1 quarter also reflects poorly on his team mates (although it does say something about that one quarter of total brilliance).
It is good to see Docherty making an impression and Everitt's vastly improved performance was appreciated by the voters.
I am a little surprised to see such little appreciation for Ellard, who did his job much better than his team mates. My only explanation is that while he did a good negative job, he just didn't get enough of the ball himself to make an impression. I think we are all agreed that he may not be on the list next year, with a major rebuild underway.

Progressive Votes:
541 - Docherty, Sam (0)
346 - Judd, Chris (0)
249 - White, Simon (0)
199 - Simpson, Kade (0)
157 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
99 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
71 - Bell, Tom (0)
61 - Wood, Cameron (0)
43 - Tuohy, Zach (0)
41 - Carrazzo, Andrew (0)
30 - Casboult, Levi (0)
30 - Yarran, Chris (0)
8 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
6 - Menzel, Troy (0)
3 - Curnow, Edward (0)
3 - Jones, Liam (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)
2 - Murphy, Marc (0)

Docherty is a comfortable leader at this point, in front of Judd. This suggests that we really are going to miss Judd when he retires, something that will happen sooner rather than later. :(

I am hoping for an improved performance this week against the Drug Cheats. But my expectations are not high.

Our 3rd loss on the trot was an improvement, but a loss is a loss is a loss, especially against the Drug Cheats.  :-[ :-[ :-[
Our match rating this week was 7.52, a considerable improvement in C+ territory. That may be a little inflated for where it should be, simply due to the fact that our first 2 losses were relatively poor. There were side effects though. This week's side is looking like the Diggers after the Gallipoli landing: shot to bit and the walking wounded.

The spread of votes was considerably higher this round, as people generally considered that more players made a useful contribution.
One of the side effects of our 3rd loss and poor outlook was that the number of voter dropped off. We had 25 voters in Round #1, while only 14 of us voted this time around. However, this was better than last year. After our 3rd loss last year only 12 people bothered to vote.
Hopefully a good showing today will bring the voting population back in force.  8) 8)

The Votes: Round #3 Carlton vs. Essendon
Cripps, Patrick 210
Murphy, Marc 150
Everitt, Andrejs 145
Wood, Cameron 137
Armfield, Dennis 116
Docherty, Sam 73
Walker, Andrew 64
Yarran, Chris 59
Judd, Chris 54
Simpson, Kade 54
Carrazzo, Andrew 21
Gibbs, Bryce 16
Tuohy, Zach 16
Byrne, Ciaran 13

I am assuming Yarran got his votes for his well aimed punch at Chapman. The full details of that tale I think we will never know.
Ciaran Byrne had an excellent impression in his first game. Unfortunately a minor hamstring prevented him from repeating the effort in Windy Wellington.
Another sign for the future was our response to Patrick Cripps. We rated him our best player for his excellent 4 quarter effort in the middle of the ground.

Progressive Votes:
614 - Docherty, Sam (0)
399 - Judd, Chris (0)
302 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
252 - Simpson, Kade (0)
249 - White, Simon (0)
210 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
198 - Wood, Cameron (0)
153 - Murphy, Marc (0)
116 - Armfield, Dennis (0)
115 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
89 - Yarran, Chris (0)
71 - Bell, Tom (0)
65 - Walker, Andrew (0)
63 - Carrazzo, Andrew (0)
59 - Tuohy, Zach (0)
30 - Casboult, Levi (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
8 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
6 - Menzel, Troy (0)
3 - Curnow, Edward (0)
3 - Jones, Liam (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

Docherty still has a comfortable lead, with Everitt catching up to Judd. The relatively poor showing by some of our better players (Gibbs, Murphy, etc) shows that we still have a long way to go before we reach the standard we all expect to show.

It was rather nice to have a win. Pity I didn't see it.
A win was good for voter numbers. This time last year we lost to Melbourne and only 8 people voted. I can understand why. This year we had 18, an improvement of over 100 %. Hopefully we can repeat the effort so we get a few more voters coming out of the woodwork. :)

We actually didn't have a huge spread of vote getter this week. Most people were impressed by the same people. Well, fair enough. the rating was considerably higher this week: 8.59. That was between a C+ and a B-, a fair indication of our performance.

The Votes: Round #4 Carlton vs. St. Kilda
Cripps, Patrick 370
Murphy, Marc 258
Henderson, Lachie 258
Bell, Tom 167
Everitt, Andrejs 64
Simpson, Kade 62
Tuohy, Zach 55
Armfield, Dennis 19
Walker, Andrew 19
Wood, Cameron 12
Carrazzo, Andrew 5

Patrick Cripps managed his 2nd BOG for us, for the 2nd week in a row, followed again by Murphy. However, the votes were much greater this time. Everitt, Wood, Armfield and Bell continued to make positive impressions. Bryce Gibbs, on the other hand, has not lived up to his great form of last year to date. Hopefully this week can be his week.

Progressives:
614 - Docherty, Sam (0)
580 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
410 - Murphy, Marc (0)
399 - Judd, Chris (0)
366 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
314 - Simpson, Kade (0)
266 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
249 - White, Simon (0)
238 - Bell, Tom (0)
210 - Wood, Cameron (0)
135 - Armfield, Dennis (0)
115 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
114 - Tuohy, Zach (0)
89 - Yarran, Chris (0)
84 - Walker, Andrew (0)
68 - Carrazzo, Andrew (0)
30 - Casboult, Levi (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
6 - Menzel, Troy (0)
3 - Curnow, Edward (0)
3 - Jones, Liam (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

Docherty retains his overall lead, but it has been cut considerably. The big movers have been Cripps and Murphy. It is, in fact, getting pretty close in the top group.

This was one of the ugliest losses we have experienced in recent times, maybe the worst since the Pagan Days.
Nichevo. Hopefully this week we can turn that around.

This time last year only 12 people voted. I guess we were pretty ordinary early last year. Even out first win was not thrilling football. Well this year 16 people voted.
There were 12 different vote getters, but overall votes were not high as the rating was poor. The rating, 5.31, was approximately an F+. That is poor in anyone's language. Hopefully we can redeem ourselves this weekend.

The Votes: Round #5 Carlton vs. Collingwood
Docherty, Sam 209
Rowe, Sam 141
Cripps, Patrick 106
Judd, Chris 105
Murphy, Marc 63
Bell, Tom 53
Armfield, Dennis 32
Wood, Cameron 27
Tuohy, Zach 27
Simpson, Kade 23
Jaksch, Kristian 5
Jones, Liam 3
Boekhorst, Blaine 3

Boekhorst, Jones and Jaksch opened their accounts this round. Docherty was our pick for BOG, followed by Sam Rowe. It is good to see Rowe hit some form, as he had been very ordinary. However, he stood up very well.

Progressives:
823 - Docherty, Sam (0)
686 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
504 - Judd, Chris (0)
474 - Murphy, Marc (0)
366 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
338 - Simpson, Kade (0)
291 - Bell, Tom (0)
266 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
249 - White, Simon (0)
236 - Wood, Cameron (0)
167 - Armfield, Dennis (0)
142 - Rowe, Sam (0)
140 - Tuohy, Zach (0)
115 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
89 - Yarran, Chris (0)
84 - Walker, Andrew (0)
68 - Carrazzo, Andrew (0)
30 - Casboult, Levi (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
6 - Jones, Liam (0)
6 - Menzel, Troy (0)
5 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
4 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
3 - Curnow, Edward (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

Docherty increased his lead, although things are still bunched up behind him. A couple of good games by someone will bust things open.

Another ugly day, especially as we lost to a team who hadn't won a game until then. 6 guys ended up dropped as a consequence. That says a lot in itself.
That said, we did have Curnow and Gibbs playing significantly better, although nowhere near their best. And this week we have the return of a bit of talent. So hopefully this improve on the field.

Votes were very concentrated this round, with very little spread at all. There were only 9 different players to get a mention. However, we did have more voters this year than we did at the same time last year, and we won this time last year! That is a positive.
The rating was ordinary, but considerably improved on the previous round: 6.27, which is an E+. We can do better.

The Votes: Round #6 Carlton vs. Brisbane
Bell, Tom 302
Casboult, Levi 245
Docherty, Sam 141
Curnow, Edward 82
Cripps, Patrick 69
Judd, Chris 65
Armfield, Dennis 13
Gibbs, Bryce 13
Murphy, Marc 10
Tuohy, Zach 10

Tom Bell produced one of his better performances and was a clear BOG, from Casboult and Docherty. Armfield managed votes (and probably deserved some) with less than 10 possessions. It was that sort of game.

Progressives:
964 - Docherty, Sam (0)
755 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
593 - Bell, Tom (0)
569 - Judd, Chris (0)
484 - Murphy, Marc (0)
366 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
338 - Simpson, Kade (0)
266 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
265 - Casboult, Levi (0)
249 - White, Simon (0)
236 - Wood, Cameron (0)
179 - Armfield, Dennis (0)
151 - Tuohy, Zach (0)
142 - Rowe, Sam (0)
127 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
89 - Yarran, Chris (0)
85 - Curnow, Edward (0)
84 - Walker, Andrew (0)
68 - Carrazzo, Andrew (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
6 - Jones, Liam (0)
6 - Menzel, Troy (0)
5 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
4 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

Docherty increased his lead slightly, while Bell rocketed up into 3rd place, in front of Judd.

I cannot say  have enjoyed many games of footy this year. Alas, this was another one that was no pleasure at all.
The only thing that made me feel better was that GWS really were superior to us, with pace, skill and a brilliant, fast moving game plan. I can't say that about any of our other opponents this season. But then, we have lost to these other zeroes.  >:( >:( :-[ :-[ :-[

Votes were more spread out this week: it appears we think we had a few more contributors, even if their contribution wasn't huge. 15 guys got a mention, compared to 9 last round.  :-\ :'(
The rating was poor: 5.74. That would be nearest to an E-. We lack even a modicum of intensity at the moment.

The Votes: Round #7 Carlton vs. GWS
Judd, Chris 302
Curnow, Edward 178
Docherty, Sam 100
Bell, Tom 88
Tutt, Jason 49
Everitt, Andrejs 37
Gibbs, Bryce 31
Wood, Cameron 27
Tuohy, Zach 14
Murphy, Marc 8
Casboult, Levi 8
Dick, Matthew 8
White, Simon 4
Armfield, Dennis 2
Yarran, Chris 2

Not a lot of votes, but there weren't a lot of voters and the rating said it all. There won't be an improvement until we start playing some better football.
Tutt got his first votes, although he ran out of steam. Judd dominated proceedings.

Progressives:
1064 - Docherty, Sam (0)
872 - Judd, Chris (0)
755 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
681 - Bell, Tom (0)
492 - Murphy, Marc (0)
403 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
338 - Simpson, Kade (0)
273 - Casboult, Levi (0)
266 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
263 - Curnow, Edward (0)
263 - Wood, Cameron (0)
254 - White, Simon (0)
181 - Armfield, Dennis (0)
165 - Tuohy, Zach (0)
158 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
142 - Rowe, Sam (0)
91 - Yarran, Chris (0)
84 - Walker, Andrew (0)
68 - Carrazzo, Andrew (0)
50 - Tutt, Jason (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
9 - Dick, Matthew (0)
6 - Jones, Liam (0)
6 - Menzel, Troy (0)
5 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
4 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

Judd moved up from 4th to 2nd, while Docherty retained his lead. Bell and Cripps also remain well placed.
Title: Re: 2015 Jim Park Voting

Not a big week in the voting department, but with efforts like those of recent weeks, that is not a surprise. However, we did get 1 more voter this year than this time last year.
The result was poor, so the rating wasn't anything special: 5.70 being very close to last week's result (5.74).  :-[ :-[ That again would be closest to an E-, again a reasonable result considering how we played.
With a new coach this week I can hope for a more spirited performance.

The Votes: Round #8 Carlton vs. Geelong
Simpson, Kade 238
Curnow, Edward 212
Menzel, Troy 83
Tutt, Jason 72
Armfield, Dennis 60
Docherty, Sam 49
Murphy, Marc 47
White, Simon 31
Yarran, Chris 31
Wood, Cameron 21
Jones, Liam 5
Cripps, Patrick 3
Warnock, Robert 3

Simmo made a welcome return to the BOG list with his best effort of the year (for 3 quarters, anyway), following by Curnow for his excellent effort against Selwood. After that it dropped off pretty quickly. Liam Jones did manage some votes, but not as many as Cameron Wood and he got his for a few moment of unthinking aggression.

Progressives:
1113 - Docherty, Sam (0)
872 - Judd, Chris (0)
758 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
681 - Bell, Tom (0)
576 - Simpson, Kade (0)
539 - Murphy, Marc (0)
476 - Curnow, Edward (0)
403 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
285 - White, Simon (0)
284 - Wood, Cameron (0)
273 - Casboult, Levi (0)
266 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
241 - Armfield, Dennis (0)
165 - Tuohy, Zach (0)
158 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
142 - Rowe, Sam (0)
122 - Tutt, Jason (0)
122 - Yarran, Chris (0)
89 - Menzel, Troy (0)
84 - Walker, Andrew (0)
68 - Carrazzo, Andrew (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
12 - Jones, Liam (0)
9 - Dick, Matthew (0)
5 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
4 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
3 - Warnock, Robert (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)
Docherty crept forward a little this week, maintaining his lead over Judd, who, as he is injured, won't be getting any votes this week..
We have played 32 players so far, only 8 weeks into the season. It looks like almost everyone on the list will get a go this season.
Cripps and Bell being so near the top of the list is a promising sign.
Title: Re: 2015 Jim Park Voting

Well, we lost our coach and looked all the world like a basket case, and what happens? Well, we still lost, but we did play like there was just a little bit of heart there.
It was a welcome change.
It will be interesting to see how we go this week against a team definitely not as good as Sydney. Pity Eddie Betts is such a star!

This year we managed more voters than we did this time last year, and that was for a win! So, it seems like we do care and we did respond in the only way we can. Now for the players to notice.  ;D ;D

The rating was also improved: at 6.98 it is our 2nd best rating for the year and corresponds to about a D (I think that in itself says volumes about how poor we have been this year, but that is another tale).

The Votes: Round 9: Carlton vs. Sydney in Sydney:
Cripps, Patrick 279
Bell, Tom 255
Simpson, Kade 155
Rowe, Sam 81
Everitt, Andrejs 74
Wood, Cameron 74
Docherty, Sam 57
Carrazzo, Andrew 35
Curnow, Edward 26
White, Simon 20
Armfield, Dennis 15
Casboult, Levi 4
Tuohy, Zach 2

Simmo continues his renaissance with a strong 2nd spot, but Patrick Cripps again score the lollies as BOG. We like what we see when we look at Cripps, and with so few recruits making an impression in recent years, so we should! Docherty also shows we made a good score wen we got him from Brisbane. Now if they could send us some more talent, we would be appreciative.

Progressive Voting:
1170 - Docherty, Sam (0)
1037 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
906 - Bell, Tom (0)
872 - Judd, Chris (0)
731 - Simpson, Kade (0)
539 - Murphy, Marc (0)
502 - Curnow, Edward (0)
477 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
358 - Wood, Cameron (0)
304 - White, Simon (0)
278 - Casboult, Levi (0)
266 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
256 - Armfield, Dennis (0)
222 - Rowe, Sam (0)
167 - Tuohy, Zach (0)
158 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
122 - Tutt, Jason (0)
122 - Yarran, Chris (0)
102 - Carrazzo, Andrew (0)
89 - Menzel, Troy (0)
84 - Walker, Andrew (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
12 - Jones, Liam (0)
9 - Dick, Matthew (0)
5 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
4 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
3 - Warnock, Robert (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

Docherty maintains a lead, but has had it cut back. Cripps flies into 2nd place, displacing Judd (who could not play). Bell moves into a solid 3rd, moving Judd back to 4th, while Curnow, who started the year in career worst form, has moved up to 7th.
Dennis Armfield can also hold his hand out for his pay with a decent 256 votes.

At the other end, Yarran is barely holding onto 18th place. It is not a strong showing from a guy who should be in the top few. Walker is 20th, and while his early injuries do offer him some excuse, we really need more from a guy who should be a leader.
Not that Gibbs is setting the world on fire: at 16th he is a LONG way from his great year in 2014.
Robert Warnock is not doing his chances of even playing next year any good: he has managed 3 votes to be 2nd last on the table.
But even worse is that Dale Thomas and Jamo have yet to score a single vote, and hence do not fit on the scale at all. Again, both have had injuries, but these guys are supposed to be leaders of our club.

Of the recruits, none of the 2014 has made a decent mark as yet, although some of 2013's are coming through. Of the 2014 players, Tutt is the clear leader (122 votes), and he has played 2 decent games. Liam Jones is next highest with 12 votes.

These stats are pretty ugly. Hopefully we can do something about them in the weeks to come. At this point I would doubt that any Carlton player has picked so much as a single Brownlow vote outside of the St. Kilda game. There are a few guys who would be unlucky if that was the case, but we have not attract votes much in recent years, even when we win.

Well, we may have lost the match and Chris Judd, but we did manage to salvage a fit bit of other stuff. Maybe even some pride.

Our rating this week was 8.29. We've had a lot of wins that didn't rate this well. This corresponds to a C+, more or less. I guess it does tell 2 things:
(a) how starved of success we have been since 1995.
(b) how we respond to our boys showing a bit for a change.
Hopefully we can see more of this type of effort.

The votes: Round 10: Carlton vs. Adelaide at the MCG
Murphy, Marc 387
Cripps, Patrick 240
Simpson, Kade 204
Henderson, Lachie 111
Tuohy, Zach 88
Bell, Tom 58
Curnow, Edward 55
Carrazzo, Andrew 39
Docherty, Sam 28
Buckley, Dylan 14
Kreuzer, Matthew 11
White, Simon 6
Walker, Andrew 3

Actually there was a surprisingly small spread in this votes this week. Most voters identified the same guys. Does that suggest our effort lacked depth? It must have lacked something: we still lost.
For the 2nd time this year Marc Murphy has had a real stand out game. Hopefully he can produced more of them, as 2 is not enough. Simmo and Cripps continued their good run of vote getting.

We have a new leader: Cripps did enough to overtake Docherty at the top of the table. Tommy Bell remained in 3rd spot, but Juddy's voting has finished, much to our dissatisfaction.

This week was a fine win, a great surprise and hopefully a sign of things to come. It was very nice to replay Port for the flogging we got last year. I was even nicer to see the attack on the ball and the pressure we managed to put on.

The rating for this week's game was the highest for the year, in fact the highest for quite a long time. The value was 9.26, which is a B+.

The votes: Round 12: Carlton vs. Port Adelaide
Cripps, Patrick 441
Murphy, Marc 302
Bell, Tom 212
Rowe, Sam 115
Graham, Nick 85
Docherty, Sam 44
Curnow, Edward 44
Simpson, Kade 32
Carrazzo, Andrew 29
Armfield, Dennis 22
Buckley, Dylan 22
Everitt, Andrejs 15
Henderson, Lachie 15
White, Simon 5
Gibbs, Bryce 5
Yarran, Chris 2

This was the biggest spread in vote getters for ages, probably for the season. However, Bryce Gibbs didn't get a lot of kudos for his efforts. Cripps again had an outstanding game and managed a Judd - like score. Murphy's score was also significant.

Progressives Voting:
1719 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
1242 - Docherty, Sam (0)
1228 - Murphy, Marc (0)
1176 - Bell, Tom (0)

Cripps skipped away to a significant lead, but behind him things are pretty close .

To get 2 wins in a row after the start we had was very pleasing. However, the rating was down just a little compared to last week (9.00 compared to 9.26). It still represented an overall B, which was a pretty good result.
It also got the voters out in large numbers. Thank you to everyone who voted. This was one of the biggest turnouts since I took over the reins. A fantastic effort!

The votes: Round 13: Carlton vs. Gold Coast
Murphy, Marc 303
Bell, Tom 234
Docherty, Sam 128
Kreuzer, Matthew 125

Wood, Cameron 88
Armfield, Dennis 62

Graham, Nick 43
Cripps, Patrick  24
Simpson, Kade 24
Buckley, Dylan 21
Henderson, Lachie 9
Curnow, Edward 7
Holman, Nick 5

This was the biggest spread of votes we've also had for a long time.

Cripps maintained his lead, but Murphy is catching up.

Last round was ordinary in a lot of ways, but we were very brave and could have won the game with better kicking and some good luck. I was afraid we would have few voters, but that does not seem to be the case at all. This time last year only 7 people voted and they were not happy. This time, we had 16 voters.
The rating was lower: after all, we lost. However, the rating (7.77) represented a C-, which compares well to our efforts earlier in the season.
Thank you to everyone who spent the time to vote.

The Votes: Round 14: Carlton vs. Western Bulldogs
Tuohy, Zach 357
Murphy, Marc 233
Armfield, Dennis 129
Graham, Nick 121
Jamison, Michael 119
Buckley, Dylan 61
Cripps, Patrick 51
Bell, Tom 41
White, Simon 22
Simpson, Kade 19
Curnow, Edward 5
Holman, Nick 5
Everitt, Andrejs 2

There wasn't a big spread of votes this time. Almost everyone had Tuohy as our best. 3rd, 4th and 5th ratings were very close. It is the first time this season, and I think the 1st time ever, that Zac Tuohy was our BOG. An impressive effort.

The Progressive Votes:
1793 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
1764 - Murphy, Marc (0)
1451 - Bell, Tom (0)
1369 - Docherty, Sam (0)

9 - Dick, Matthew (0)
5 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
4 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
3 - Warnock, Robert (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

It is very close at the top at the moment between Cripps and Murphy, with only a handful of votes separating them out. Bell and Docherty remain in 3rd and 4th spots.
We still have a lot of very good players who are well down the leader board. Hopefully that can change as the season progresses.

So, what is Yarran's problem this year? Someone said they knew what 'ails' him....?

I wish I knew. His form has been reasonable, but not outstanding. He has been brought close to goal as often as the opposition can manage it: it reduces his effectiveness.

This was probably our most ordinary game under Johnny Barker, and  pretty uninspiring games all up. We lost Gibbs for the rest of the year and Armfield for at least 4 weeks (probably more - breaks don't heal overnight). The umpiring was diabolical and cost us far too much. Our skills were ordinary at best in some freezing conditions.
I am happy that so few games are played under those conditions.

We managed 12 voters this week, still an improvement over this time last year, even though we lost. Voting this week will be interesting. I do not have pay TV so I won't be seeing any of the game. I doubt I will be voting, as my only way to work things out will come from following the statistics and they can be misleading. Hopefully those with pay TV or those lucky enough to be at the game can give us an idea of who really deserved a vote.

This round's rating was 7.08, just over a D. This is a reasonable representation of our effort.

The Votes: Round 15: Carlton vs. Richmond
Kreuzer, Matthew 204
Murphy, Marc 201
Gibbs, Bryce 177
Tuohy, Zach 156
Buckley, Dylan 109
Simpson, Kade 89
Carrazzo, Andrew 86
Cripps, Patrick 12
Curnow, Edward 12
Bell, Tom 9
Tutt, Jason 6
Holman, Nick 3

I think the results say something about our night where our best player (Kreuzer, in his 1st BOG in years) was actually beaten in the ruck by former Blue Hampson. That may have you scratching your heads, but it is a good measure of how we went.
Murphy managed 2nd place, a few votes ahead of Gibbs (a good effort on his return from suspension, especially when he was crippled in the last quarter with injury). Zac Tuohy and Dylan Buckley continued their good recent form.
Cripps had a quiet game for him.

Murphy snuck ahead of Cripps, but things are close at the top. Nor is there much space between Bell and Docherty in 3rd and 4th places.
Judd remains in 5th spot almost half a season since his demise.
We have played 9 debutants this season, with a 10th, Brad Walsh, getting his go tonight. Of those 9 players 7 of them have managed votes so far. Tutt leads them with 128 votes, even with his significant problems (being unable to hold a tackle against anyone older than 10 years of age, for example).

Sorry this has taken so long: I have been sick for the past week and I was not able to touch the family desk top, which had this (and other important files). I wasn't allowed to contaminate the computer.  ::) (On the other hand, I could contaminate my laptop as much as I liked...  ;D ;D)
As I didn't see any of the game I found it difficult to tell anything about it; which is why I didn't vote.

Voting was down a bit, but that is no real surprised with the game in WA and not everyone having access to pay TV.

A Rating of 7.59 was not too bad in the circumstances. representing a bit more than a D+, almost a C-. Much better than how we fared against Hawthorn.  :-[ :-[

The Votes: Round 16: Carlton vs. Fremantle
White, Simon 280
Buckley, Dylan 257
Docherty, Sam 210
Murphy, Marc 123
Curnow, Edward 99
Bell, Tom 76
Kreuzer, Matthew 70
Tutt, Jason 12
Cripps, Patrick 6
Simpson, Kade 6

A very small spread of votes suggested:
(a) I was not voting (as I spread the votes around).
(b) Not a large number of significant contributors. Very few players received minor votes.
I guess that makes sense when we do so little scoring.
Simon White lead the votes with an excellent game against Brownlow favourite Fyffe. Other defenders Buckley and Docherty also shone through. Tom Bell and Ed Curnow appear to have been our better mids (with Murphy).

With another quieter game, Cripps has fallen back a little in 2nd place behind Murphy, whose form lately has been much improved. 3rd and 4th place holders Docherty and Bell are now within one good game of overtaking Cripps. Their form this year has been really positive.
Juddy is still in 6th place, nearly half a season after he had to retire. That says a lot about the lack on contributions from our 'better players'. But, as Gibbs was finally finding form his year was terminated by injury and he has not been alone.

I was glad to miss this game. It was hard enough to tolerate on the TV. Our worst ever defeat. Says it all.

The rating of 6.08 was actually not close to our worst for the year. It represents an E. In some ways it shows how far behind we are at the moment, and we are a long way behind the best in the competition at this point. However, it also shows how under manned we are. We have a lot of players unavailable due to injury. So much so that we really sent out the Northern Blues. It isn't going to get better either.

The Votes: Round 17: Carlton vs. Hawthorn

Murphy, Marc 322
Kreuzer, Matthew 259
Bell, Tom 94
Cripps, Patrick 76

Curnow, Edward 28
Buckley, Dylan 25
Simpson, Kade 18
Henderson, Lachie 15
Tuohy, Zach 10
Holman, Nick 10
Boekhorst, Blaine 10

A very small spread with only 2 guys getting significant votes. Nor were there many people who wanted to vote. It was a very negative reaction to a remarkably poor effort.

Not a great result, not a great crowd and not a great voter turnout. However, we did play half a game, instead of no part of the game. So this was an improvement.

There were 12 voters this week who rated the performance a reasonable 7.29, close to a D+. A reasonable effort for a team that looks more like the Northern Blues each week.

It may have been the smallest Carlton vs. Collingwood crowd for ages, but the game was actually pretty close for most of the day. We were a little unlucky to lose, but with what we could put on the field, we were pretty good.
Still, we are a LONG way from where we would like to be.

It appeared that the voting public thought we were somewhat better: 19 people voted, which was better than last year (where we actually won). The overall rating was 7.72, which is almost a C-, our best rating for quite a while.

The Votes: Round 19: Carlton vs. Collingwood
Murphy, Marc 380
Cripps, Patrick 311
Everitt, Andrejs 142
Kreuzer, Matthew 130
Simpson, Kade 126
Bell, Tom 24
Carrazzo, Andrew 24
Jamison, Michael 8
Buckley, Dylan 4
Henderson, Lachie 4
Curnow, Edward 2
Boekhorst, Blaine 2

Cripps and Murphy were the standouts, with excellent displays which attracted a lot of votes. Everitt had his best game for ages, which Simpson and Kreuzer were also good contributors. Still not a huge spread of contributors, but we did lose.

Progressive voting:
3148 - Murphy, Marc (0)
2428 - Cripps, Patrick (0)

Kreuzer has made some progress since his return.   :)
Considerable progress indeed.
However, it is still a real worry that Chris Judd is 7th presently. Remember, he played relatively little of the season.
It is an even bigger worry that Walker and Menzel both have less than 100 votes. That Jamo and Yarran have just cleared the 100 mark also describes how little they have been able to effect our play this season.

Cripps, Docherty and Bell have been the improvers this season. They have all made big strides and sit comfortably in our top 5. They will probably sit in the top 5 for the John Nicholls' Medal.

After another appalling effort, the effort to vote must be extremely difficult. Thank you to all those who bothered.
I could not vote: I did not see anything of the game at all, not a single highlight (or lowlight). I am unwilling to vote when I do not know what I am voting about. I am sure I am not alone.
We had 5 less voters this round compared to last round, and there were plenty of reasons why the voters would rather not have participated.

The rating: 6.17. That is poor by any standards, representing little over an E. We did have 1 good quarter, I guess.

The Votes: Round 20: Carlton vs. Brisbane
Cripps, Patrick 329

Buckley, Dylan 108
Walker, Andrew 100
Bell, Tom 21
Carrazzo, Andrew 15
Jaksch, Kristian 10

This was the smallest spread of vote getters for the year, which also says a lot. Other than Cripps, Murphy and Kreuzer, none of the totals was significant.

134 - Jamison, Michael (0)
125 - Yarran, Chris (0)
89 - Menzel, Troy (0)
36 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
23 - Holman, Nick (0)
16 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
12 - Jones, Liam (0)
9 - Dick, Matthew (0)
6 - Smith, Clem (0)
3 - Warnock, Robert (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

With 3 games to go and the likelihood of good performances pretty low, Murphy looks to have a winning lead, from Cripps, a margin of about 600. Still, that can change, especially if Murphy gets injured (why not? Everyone else is getting injured).
Cripps is a 1000 ahead of 3rd placed Docherty, who leads Bell by 49. Placed 3 to 5 are still up for grabs.

Judd is still in 6th place and he hasn't played for half a season.
Hendo has ended at 423, well below the leaders. He is presently at 15th spot.

Carrots is presently in 13th spot. He could move up a little in his final 3 games.

Of the new players this season Tutt leads with 120. he is followed by Boekhorst (36) and Jaksch (16). It was not a great year for new chums. Considering how may players we have tried this year, that is a remarkably poor sign.

This was a most unexpected and joyous result that shows that Melbourne are still a long way behind us. Incredible!
The rating, 8.81, was the 2nd highest for the year, presenting a C+. It shows how poor we have been this year, because we didn't really play that well against the Demons.

The Votes: Round 21: Carlton vs. Melbourne
Cripps, Patrick 392
Kreuzer, Matthew 362
Walker, Andrew 159
Murphy, Marc 127
Curnow, Edward 76
Docherty, Sam 49
Buckley, Dylan 27
Simpson, Kade 24
Jamison, Michael 24
Tuohy, Zach 22
Rowe, Sam 17
Tutt, Jason 17
Boekhorst, Blaine 10
Whiley, Mark 10
Bell, Tom 5

This was Walker's 1st top 4 finish for the year. Whiley got his first votes. Kreuzer again got a lot of votes and played well even though he lost the ruck duels by a long way.

The progressives:
3476 - Murphy, Marc (0)
3149 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
1773 - Docherty, Sam (0)
1680 - Bell, Tom (0)
1422 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0)
1395 - Simpson, Kade (0)
872 - Judd, Chris (0)
860 - Tuohy, Zach (0)
856 - Curnow, Edward (0)
717 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
685 - Buckley, Dylan (0)
617 - White, Simon (0)
468 - Armfield, Dennis (0)
445 - Carrazzo, Andrew (0)
445 - Wood, Cameron (0)
423 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
354 - Rowe, Sam (0)
346 - Walker, Andrew (0)
340 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
325 - Casboult, Levi (0)
250 - Graham, Nick (0)
159 - Jamison, Michael (0)
157 - Tutt, Jason (0)
125 - Yarran, Chris (0)
89 - Menzel, Troy (0)
46 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
23 - Holman, Nick (0)
16 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
12 - Jones, Liam (0)
10 - Whiley, Mark (0)
9 - Dick, Matthew (0)
6 - Smith, Clem (0)
3 - Warnock, Robert (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

Cripps might just overtake Murphy, as Murphy won't score again this season. Whiley got his first votes. Juddy was moved down to 7th, but that he is still in the top 10 having played so little really tells a lot about our year. If we do lose Tom Bell, then we can claim a decent swap or a 1st rounder for him. For his faults, he is well entrenched in the top 5 and still getting votes. he could end up 3rd yet, depending on how we play in the next 2 weeks. The other possible exiting players have shown absolutely nothing.
Of those in their 1st year with us, Tutt has come out on top so far: a big surprise to some because his issues are many and obvious. However, he has got votes on a number of occasions, while Whiley. et al, have struggled to get a mention more than once. According to Malthouse, Jones was going to really make a mark this year. He has a dozen votes and would not have that many more for the NBs.

Not much action on the voting front for Round 22. Granted that the game and the effort were quite forgettable, but a large number of our usual voters didn't bother. In fact, only 10 bothered. I'm worrying for next Round, as I won't be among the voters: I won't see or hear the game at all.
The rating was not high: 6.5. Not quite a D-. Describes our effort reasonably well.

As the penultimate round, the votes of this week will have a large bearing on the result of the Jim park Medal.

Votes: Round 22: Carlton vs. GWS
Cripps, Patrick 410
Curnow, Edward 196
Bell, Tom 143
Buckley, Dylan 91
Simpson, Kade 72
Dick, Matthew 46
Boekhorst, Blaine 20
Docherty, Sam 13
Tuohy, Zach 13

Quite remarkable, the small number of guys acknowledged this week: only 9 players. And Cripps' 410 votes dominated. He got more than double the next placed vote getter (Curnow). Tommy Bell was a clear 3rd with 143.

Progressive Results:
3558 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
3476 - Murphy, Marc (0)
1823 - Bell, Tom (0)
1786 - Docherty, Sam (0)
1467 - Simpson, Kade (0)
1422 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0)
1025 - Curnow, Edward (0)
873 - Tuohy, Zach (0)
872 - Judd, Chris (0)
776 - Buckley, Dylan (0)
717 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
617 - White, Simon (0)
468 - Armfield, Dennis (0)
445 - Carrazzo, Andrew (0)
445 - Wood, Cameron (0)
423 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
354 - Rowe, Sam (0)
346 - Walker, Andrew (0)
340 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
325 - Casboult, Levi (0)
250 - Graham, Nick (0)
159 - Jamison, Michael (0)
157 - Tutt, Jason (0)
125 - Yarran, Chris (0)
89 - Menzel, Troy (0)
65 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
54 - Dick, Matthew (0)
23 - Holman, Nick (0)
16 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
12 - Jones, Liam (0)
10 - Whiley, Mark (0)
6 - Smith, Clem (0)
3 - Warnock, Robert (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

With one round to go, the result is a forgone conclusion. Murphy didn't play, so he cannot catch Cripps. Tom Bell has 3rd place sown up, as Docherty went off for an operation. Carrots should move up significantly in the last round.
So, congratulations, Patrick Cripps, winner of the 2015 Jim Park Medal.
Final results will be determined in a few days when the few people who bother voting this week put in their 2 cents worth.

Again, thank you to everyone who spent the time to vote. Without you, this award would be meaningless.

PS: Purple names were unavailable this round. More were unavailable for the final round.

Not a huge amount of interest in this game, as success was a very low probability event. However, we improved quite a lot from last time, with a much weaker side. Still, we need to beat the Hawthorn and Sydneys and Geelongs if we are to make an impression. We haven't been able to beat these sides for years.

I was a little surprised at the rating: 6.36. It was lower than last week and I thought we were worse against GWS. However, that is the way it was voted. 6.36 represents approximately an E+.

There were 12 voters this week, down 5 from this time last year. Considering how we have been, I am happy to see 12 people vote. Hopefully we can attract more voters next year.

My thanks to everybody who voted this year. Without your contributions, and the time you spend making them, this award would not be possible. Hopefully our performances in 2016 will attract more people to record their opinions. We do have a lot of strength in our diversity of opinions.

The Votes: Rd 23: Carlton vs. Hawthorn
Carrazzo, Andrew 307
Curnow, Edward 217
Cripps, Patrick 148
Everitt, Andrejs 74
Tutt, Jason 74
Tuohy, Zach 48
Kreuzer, Matthew 42
Bell, Tom 34
Rowe, Sam 8

Again, the votes were quite concentrated this week. Only 9 players garnered any votes from the voting public. That suggests that a lot of our boys didn't do a lot. Alas, statistics appear to verify that result.
Andrew Carrazzo bowed out with a BOG performance. Congratulations. Carrots hasn't managed these numbers for quite a while with his injury concerns. Ed Curnow was a very clear 2nd with 217 votes, while Patrick Cripps managed a respectable 148 votes.

The final standings for the Jim Park Medal for 2015:
3707 - Cripps, Patrick (149)
3476 - Murphy, Marc (0)
1857 - Bell, Tom (35)
1786 - Docherty, Sam (0)
1467 - Simpson, Kade (0)
1464 - Kreuzer, Matthew (43)
1242 - Curnow, Edward (218)
921 - Tuohy, Zach (48)
872 - Judd, Chris (0)
791 - Everitt, Andrejs (75)
776 - Buckley, Dylan (0)
752 - Carrazzo, Andrew (308)
617 - White, Simon (0)
468 - Armfield, Dennis (0)
445 - Wood, Cameron (0)
423 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
362 - Rowe, Sam (8)
346 - Walker, Andrew (0)
340 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
325 - Casboult, Levi (0)
250 - Graham, Nick (0)
231 - Tutt, Jason (75)
159 - Jamison, Michael (0)
125 - Yarran, Chris (0)
89 - Menzel, Troy (0)
65 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
54 - Dick, Matthew (0)
23 - Holman, Nick (0)
16 - Jaksch, Kristian (0)
14 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
12 - Jones, Liam (0)
10 - Whiley, Mark (0)
6 - Smith, Clem (0)
3 - Warnock, Robert (0)
2 - Ellard, David (0)

Congratulations to Patrick Cripps in winning his 1st Jim Park medal. Hopefully the first of many. Cripps managed 3707 to comfortably pass Marc Murphy with 3476.
These 2 guys were the standouts in a poor season, where injury robbed of class from the very first minute, way back in April.

In 3rd spot was Tom Bell, over 1600 votes behind Murphy, and 1900 votes behind Cripps. Still, Bell's was an excellent effort. Bell managed to lead Docherty by less than 100 votes. Docherty's 4th placing, like Bell's 3rd placing, was a huge improvement over anything previous.

Next were Simpson and Kreuzer, separated by only 3 votes. They were over 200 votes ahead of Ed Curnow.

Some huge disappointments in 2015 were (in no particular order)
Robert Warnock (3 votes for the year)
David Ellard (2 votes for the year)
Troy Menzel (89 votes)
Chris Yarran (125 votes included 0 since Round 8)
Michael Jamison (159 votes including 0 for the first 12 rounds)

35 players managed votes in 2015, compared to 33 last year. Last year only 1 player got under 10 votes. This year there were 3 players.
40 players played senior football for us in 2015, with Dillon Viojo-Rainbow and Cat B rookie Fraser Russell being the only 2 players who could have played but didn't.

Last year we had 4 players get more than 2000 votes. This year there were just 2.

Cripps managed our top votes in 7 different games for the year, while finishing 2nd on 3 occasions . Murphy Managed 5 BOGs and 6 2nd places.

Yes, great work Crash!  It's one of the features of CSC that makes it so hard to stay away from.

While I think that we may have pumped up Cripps' tyres just a tad, I'm sure that he will win more than his share of awards over the next 10 years or so.
