Robert Heatley Stand / Bolton's Bolter?
Whenever you get a change of coach, you often get a player or two who steps it up under the new regime.

I'm going with Buckley to take it to the next level and flourish under Bolton's more positive approach.

Other suggestions?

The Sports Desk / IOC Updates Transgender Recommendations
Athletes are now categorised by hormone levels (over time) rather than their bits.

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/jan/25/ioc-rules-transgender-athletes-can-take-part-in-olympics-without-surgery

Quote
Under the previous IOC guidelines, approved in 2003, athletes who transitioned from male to female or vice versa were required to have reassignment surgery followed by at least two years of hormone therapy in order to be eligible to compete.

Now, surgery will no longer be required, with female-to-male transgender athletes eligible to take part in men’s competitions “without restriction”.

Meanwhile, male-to-female transgender athletes will need to demonstrate that their testosterone level has been below a certain cutoff point for at least one year before their first competition.

Blah-Blah Bar / RIP Lemmy
No idea how this guy managed to survive this long but sadly the raspy, grating tones  of Motorhead's front man are no longer with us.

RIP Lemmy

The Sports Desk / RIP Bart Cummings
This slipped by quietly. Most successful person in one of our biggest sporting events.

I'll remember his famous reply to the question "How much will it cost to train my horse?"
"$250 per day, $500 if you want to talk to me about it"

Robert Heatley Stand / R23 Hawthorn v Carlton: Pregame Chatter
Saturday, 5 September
16:40@MCG (away)

Last game of the year. Hawks have nothing to gain as their percentage is far superior to Sydney.

If Brisbane beat the bulldogs we're last anyway.

So nothing game but hawks would like to get a good run into finals

Robert Heatley Stand / Carlton's 10 year players
inspired by a pessimist :P But a good question to see whether we have a base of quality to form the nucleus of the next flag shot - which will determine how long we will need to spend at the wrong end of the ladder  :-\

I cut the age off at 24 (okay, I let Tom Bell slip in)

Try keep it to genuine 200 game players rather than guys who aren't total rubbish (you can vote for as many as you like, ordered by age to help ruthlessness)

Robert Heatley Stand / R20 Brisbane v Carlton - Battle for the Spoon
Friday, 14 August
19:20@Gabba (away)

With Gold Coast coming away with the points against Brisbane last night, the loser will most likely be awarded the spoon at the end of the year.

Brisbane wins and we are then in a race for the lowest percentage (there has been an incredible amount of percentage lost by Carlton already)

Brisbane lose and they'll have locked away last place you'd imagine.

Expect some selection shenanigans.

Robert Heatley Stand / Round 19 Collingwood vs Carlton Pre Game
Saturday 8 August
13:45@MCG (away)

:o Am I blind or is there no pregame discussion? Against Collingwood of all teams!

This will be the lowest attended game since the suburban days if interest reflects what I'm hearing around the place.

Robert Heatley Stand / The Awful Truth - 2015 Edition
This is the run home for all contenders (for pick 1 that is)

Carlton
Collingwood
Brisbane (away)
Melbourne
GWS (away)
Hawthorn

Brisbane
Gold Coast
Carlton
Adelaide (away)
Hawthorn (away)
Western Bulldogs

Gold Coast
Brisbane (away)
Richmond (away)
Essendon
Port
Sydney (away)

Gold Coast did us an enormous "favour" with their upset draw and will probably put themselves out of the running next week. Though a loss is likely to give them that last spot.

If it goes to plan though, then we'll most likely find ourselves on the same number of games as Brisbane the following week (don't be surprised by any omissions - expecting us to "manage" Cripps' young body and MK's fragile one myself) with a race to the lowest percentage from there - we'd need to out lose them by about 15-20 points per game probably less if they beat us by 5 or 6 goals.

I reckon Barker is in on this and is happy enough as long as there is effort. Not sure what the club has promised in return.

Robert Heatley Stand / 2015... Now what?
Mick's gone and that must change the equation. I'm interested in what folks think will be a good result for 2015 from here on in.

I'm thinking game time for the younger brigade, reduce the floggings and back to basics footy (tackles, pressure).

I doubt we'll win too many games.
