Jim Park Voting 2023 AFL Rd 24 Carlton vs GWS

Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos:
[1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Sam Walsh or Patrick Cripps)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.

5. TDK - comprehensively beat Briggs and scored a goal on him. Looks messy in the contest with legs and arms going everywhere but its effective

4. Cerra - not his best game but in terms of output he was okay. five tackles - six clearances and tried all game - blew out those cobwebs

3. Walsh - good balanced game with contested and uncontested possessions... tackling numbers were down but good to have Walshy back will be good for the run

2. Harry - why am I putting Harry here? Because he had more contested possession than Hewett, Fisher, Martin and Cotrell combined.

1. McGovern - had a good game on this return

We need to turn up the heat in tackling and pressure as it was way down and almost non existent yesterday

I must admit to be disappointed that we lost.
Team:   C+
We were not that bad, just not good enough on the day.

Votes:
I found this week very difficult to give votes for.
[2]   Jacob Weitering:
[2]   Blake Acres
[1.5]   Sam Walsh
[1.5]   Charlie Curnow
[1.5]   Paddy Dow
[1.5]   Nic Newman
[1]   Tom de Koning
[1]   Adam Saad
[1]   George Hewett
[0.5]   David Cuningham
[0.5]   Matthew Owies
[0.5]   Mitch McGovern
[0.5]   Zac Fisher

Explanations:
[2]   Jacob Weitering:   Dominated his position on the ground and kept his man to 1 goal.
[2]   Blake Acres:      Close to BOG when he was injured. He was dynamic; we lost a lot of momentum when he went off.
[1.5]   Sam Walsh:      Got a fair bit of the ball. Probably our most effective mid on the day. 4 tackles and 6 clearances.
[1.5]   Charlie Curnow:   When we got the ball near him, Charlie beat his man comfortably. Kicking it to a pack didn’t work.
[1.5]   Paddy Dow:      8 clearances and 3 tackles to go with 21 possessions. Showing why he deserved a game.
[1.5]   Nic Newman:      Didn’t lose a contest and played good football.
[1]   Tom de Koning:   Tom tried hard in the ruck, and managed to get his hands on a fair bit of ball, but he couldn’t remotely direct his taps, few of which led to our centre clearances. Some nice clearances and a goal were good.
[1]   Adam Saad:      A pretty solid job in defence. Provided some nice run.
[1]   George Hewett:   A solid effort in the middle, but not as effective as he has been recently.
[0.5]   David Cuningham:   Probably the most possessions David has had all year, but his disposal was nowhere near as effective as they can be. Reasonable, but always under pressure.
[0.5]   Matthew Owies:   Not huge numbers, but he scored and provided a target.
[0.5]   Mitch McGovern:   A solid game back in defence.
[0.5]   Zac Fisher:      24 possessions, but not as damaging as he has been.

Honourable Mentions:
Lachie Fogarty:      Like David Cuningham, Fog had close to his best numbers for the year. However, his possessions didn’t hurt as much as they have for much of this year.
Adam Cerra:         The quietest 23 possession game Adam has ever had.
Brodie Kemp:         Reasonable in defence and provided a target late in the game.
Caleb Marchbank:      9 possessions for a quarter and a bit wasn’t bad. Some good intercept marks, too.
