Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 18 : Blues Scorch Suns (Post-Siren Sunburn)
I only saw the first quarter and a bit but Rowe got his hands to about 10 potential marks and didn't take one.

How does that happen with a guy who has sticky hands?

If you look closely, many of those potential marks he intentionally (obvioulsy following instructions) knocked down in front... for the smalls to gather. But your point is good... he should be allowed to back his judgment more often and take the mark. Plus, I reckon he's very early in learning how to be a 2nd ruckman and 2nd tall forward... he came from being the no. 1 in both. He'll learn. Because he wants to. His recent signing suggests the club thinks much the same... he will have 2014 to prove himself.

Rowe was very unconvincing today.
He has no second effort, and if not on his terms, sometimes even no first effort.
Can take a mark when he wants, but he is a bit too stand offish for mine.

Bottom line....

If Warnock's fit and available Rowe doesn't play.

Not for me...I'm still sticking with Rowe, we need a second ruckman but one who can take a mark and give us some options....Warnock is still a lampost who can only play ruck.
Rowe wasnt great today, didnt take enough marks or get involved enough but i think we have to get away from rotating our KP/rucks when they have a ordinary game or two.
You have to build confidence to build a structure and I think Rowe has to be educated and given a chance to settle.......if you did drop Rowe then I reckon it has to be Casboult who comes in...at least he can play more than one position. I dont see Warnock as an option unless Kruezer gets hurt.

re: Waite...happy to have him back in the team but he isnt a ruckman and you still need a backup for Kruezer wether it be Rowe or Casboult.

Totally agree. You'd reckon if Meat puts in a good one tomorrow for the NBs, he'll come in for Rowe. I would also persist with Rowe. Sheesh, his body would still be recovering after that few months of chemo last year - that stuff devastates the human body. But after today's game he might need a rest/learn more in the Magoos.

Curnow is blossoming under MM. Disciplined games from Walker and Yazz.

Hendo is rapidly cementing himself as not only a very good tall forward but also as a leader.

Good effort considering neither Juddy or Murph was 'dominant'... both were good and did their job but we didn't rely on both or either to be the difference.

Cachia did more in one quarter of footy than Lucas in three. Question marks over Lucas' hardness rise again - one hit from Brown and he went to water and became the invisible man.

The old bloke shone (Scotto).

Was it my imagination  or did Carrots look a little slow/off/not quite right?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 18 Pre game ponderings: Holiday on the Gold Coast or Disaster at Carrarra?
Watson certainly has to stake his claim today to his spot in the team. With a good performance he could begin to convince the powers that be that he is one serious solution to our key defender needs. Convincing people on here will be a lot harder for him of course.  ;D Go Watto!

True. Today will be a huge test for him as this mob is quick. He'll no doubt take the slowest tall (which is sensible) but GC will try to expose his lack of speed over the track.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 18 Pre game ponderings: Holiday on the Gold Coast or Disaster at Carrarra?
Mick's message to members this week mentions playing on a larger ground and 'five or six players from [the NBs] who can come into our side, if need be, and freshen it up'.

While I take that with a grain of salt, it wouldn't surprise me to see a couple of runners come into the side.

Yep, taking any slow blokes into next week's game would be ill-advised.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 18 Pre game ponderings: Holiday on the Gold Coast or Disaster at Carrarra?
Did anyone hear Malthouse say that Garlett almost missed Friday's game.  Robbo was warming up and was a chance to play until just before the game.  Perhaps Garlett may miss against Gold Coast.

Carrazzo is cleared to play.

Going on what I saw at Box Hill, Robbo should be back this week and Graham and Casboult could be close.

Yep, agree. And I've a feeling from what MM said in his Media Conference that the side might need a 'freshen-up' with a few changes. He mentioned a good few blokes were in line for a call-up. I wonder if only one of McLean / Cachia will be in for our next game... making way for Robbo?. Maybe a rest for Andy Mac (in White or Bootsma)? Maybe even rest Kreuz (in Casboult/Warnock)? And rest Murph giving his bruised bum a chance to heal (Graham debut)?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 17 : Blues Defeat Kangaroos (After-Match Defibrillators)
In context of the season - best win of the season.

The Kangabies threw absolutely everything at us... and in previous seasons, regardless of form, they've won 'their' Friday night against top sides. They steel themsevles for this Friday night game.

Considering the blokes we had 'down'... it was a seriously good win (gotta address the fade).  ;D

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Baby Blues vs Box Hill on TV next Sat
Mitchell kicking off the dew... deserved.

Although, as you mention CRASH, not expecting much from ROK, I will also be watching with interest. I am a wrap for this bloke and hope he shows something (and doesn't get injured) in the few remaining weeks.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Reshape & Remodel Watson = The Spine Is Stronger Overall
I myself would have to of been Watson's biggest fan. Being a CHB myself I have a soft spot for them and setting his highlight reel when we drafted him I went out and got a baby blue gursney with the number 10 on the back. Haven't been able to wear it much, but watched the game with a port supporter who had never heard of Watson. After the game I he said he doubts her ever will again and unfortunately I have to agree.

The kid has the skills, has the body but his head must bee hollow. He's not slow, he just has no desire to get that ball more than anyone else. He jogs to contests and then pulls up instead of sprinting and throwing his body on the line and over the ball. Watson needs to get some c*nt about him, use his body to intimidate, get front position, if he can't at least use his body to apply pressure instead of waiting to meet the ball with a punch from behind at the last second.

This kid should be smashing packs and running off for an easy kick cause most chfs won't chase but he is lazy and uninterested. Like a lot of our boys he doesn't bleed blue, he doesn't want to do win that ball and I'm 95% sure he doesn't want that ball anywhere near him

There's more than enough can't about him already.

;D ;D Arrr, the dry wit of the Rat in the River...  :)) :))

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Jamo declares Hendo a Star
Time to bite the 'one ounce piece of lead' and keep Hendo up forward PROVIDED he has the kind of tall/hard support as offered by Rowey (last Saturday night). On his (Hendo) patmalone he won't cut it, yet. But with strong and dangerous 'tall' support... job done. A resting Kreuz is also a big headache for opposition coaches and defenders.

No point holding the opposition to 11 goals if you can only kick 9. Never underestimate the impact measured offensive pressure/scoreboard pressure can do to unnerve the opposition.

McInnes has given more to our backline than his understated demeanour might suggest.

If the Kangabies (or is that the Wallaroos?) have a slow tall this Friday night, then Watson is the dude.

Still like to trial Hammer as a tall/mobile defender.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2013 - the year our best players went AWOL
Apparently we can't win a flag in the next three years so no point going for experience, we need to develop our own and hopefully have them right before blokes like Murphy, Gibbs, Hendo etc are past their prime. Murphy will be 30 in 4 years time will he not? Scary stuff.

Rubbish. Of course we can be a serious contender within 3 years... even next year. And the injection of an experienced player or 3 would be highly beneficial (1 being a tall defender, 1 being a tall forward & 1 a hard mid... plan assuming Waite will not front up next year, making him a bonus), provided they meet our immediate needs. And we got rid of a few 'non-hackers'. Non-hackers in terms of being able to execute our needs... these blokes might serve another club well, but not us.
