Interesting that Newnes named second best for us, but barely a mention on twitter feed

I was banging on about trying to recruit him for most of last year. I got my wish.

My take on him and what he could do for the side was relatively simple. He is a 'set and forget' type player. Turns up, does whats expected and moves on to next week. Albeit in a different role, its something like what Nick Newman or Ed Curnow offers us. You might not notice him much but at the end of the day he has his 20 touches and was not beaten. Get 22 of them and you win more games than you lose. With the amount of kids we have, we could use a few more 'set and forget' types.

I agree with that, with a slight twist.  20 good solid players (with some stars sprinkled in of course), and a couple of spots for the kids to fight over.  Then it's up to the developing players in the 2's to force out the experienced heads. It only took a couple of good inclusions to round out the list.  It will be nice to have some good developing kids in the 2's playing together, where they belong until they're ready.  Fingers crossed we just get a fair run with injuries.

GTC, he let loose with a few of them with pin point accuracy... we BlueBaggers watching him from only a few metres away, well, we drooled... the first qtr had loads of highlights (for us) but chief among them was Willo and Eddie. Easily the best first up hit out I've seen from us for years... BUT, it is February, BUT it was fkn great spanking Rottingwood for the first three 'serious' qtrs.
Willo has been my favourite since we drafted him. I saw his first training session and there was just something about the way he moved that struck a cord with me. He is a footballer WITH athleticism. He is beautifully balanced, has great vision and does not panic in traffic or when the heat is on. Doesnt take crap either. Love him.

Ben SOS, Goddard & Cotrell all played in the 5th & 6th qtrs.
Willo is all class, a little rusty, but that will soon disappear.... a huge future ahead of him.
Great to see Doc and Eddie back and both doing what they do best, both showed good form.
Philp in the 1st & 2nd qtr looked lost and gassed the times i noticed him, his 3rd qtr was quite impressive though. Definitely something to work with.
DeKoning also impressed me, reads the ball well in the air, and took several good marks, very promising signs.
Overall, i was very impressed with the team defense, and scoring 4 goals in each of the 1st 3 (serious) qtrs showed promising signs for our offense as well.
For a 1st hit out for the season it was quite pleasing,  and always good to beat the Pies!

Thanks for the reports guys.

I know it's only a practice match, but we won.

Sounds like Doc, Willo, Newnes, and Eddy could make a huge difference if they stay fit.
I spent most of my money on Women and grog.
The rest I just wasted.

Note the difference in our backline this year when we have a genuine distributor (Willo) and a genuine general (a la Hodge) in Doc. Keep them on the park, Mr Russell!!

We're not gonna be the easybeats other teams might have assumed.  Practice match or not, there's more than a few signs of revival.  Great review of the game by the way.

Betts will create some chaos.  Other perennial wastes of time (Lang for one) will not

Glimmers of hope here and there, but caution needs to be taken when viewing anything that is labelled as pre-season!

Only concern for me is Weiters.

If he plays again before the real deal I'll be happy, if we do not see him again in the pre-season I'll be very concerned as I won't know what to make of his not serious injury.

We were ahead by 9 goals at one point....some great signs from the younger crop.
Finals, then 4 in a row!

Couldnt agree more on TW, vital player given how timid we are and that left leg is a weapon, going to put some real heat on our other regular defenders too. They cant all play and its going to make competition tight for places which is how you build a decent team. Good to see Kruddlers man Newnes start well too, reckon he is another who should lift standards and be a lock for round 1.
Collingwood might have a indifferent year IMO due to a variety of reasons including off the field issues.

Very good signs from the younger blokes.
There will be improvement from players like SPS, Jack. Fisher, Dow, Cottrell, Gibbins, O'Brien , and others as they get a few more games under the belt.

Did Martin get a gig?

Our rookies impress me more than some of the fringe players on our list like Lang,  ODwyer etc.   Sturgess isn't doing his case any harm.
DrE is no more... you ok with that harmonica man?

Not sure exactly why. Watching Dale Amos he didn't really elaborate too much. Maybe just a fatigue / fitness issue.
