VFL Rd 12: Northern Blues vs Port Melbourne July 05, 2017, 02:14:11 pm One of our worst failures of the year was Round 1 against Port. Our team may be a lot weaker on paper, but I am hopeful of a positive response. Last week was a real step forward, but one we could no sustain, nor were we able to take advantage of our periods of dominance. Early in the year we could.Gorringe will probably be back and will probably take on the 1st ruck job. Not sure that is going to help our work at the tap outs, but it will provide a player who has more idea about that game. In his senior appearances, Gorringe has actually played quite well around the ground, below his knees he is excellent. The question is his capability as a ruckman, which we all know is his weakness.Still, it also means that we can play Korchek in smaller lumps, which helps him.Silvagni does not look like he will quite be right. However, next week there will be an interesting dilemma: whether to play Alex Silvagni in the 1sts or in the VFL.SPS will be available as will Williamson. That will also make for some interesting selection decisions.

Gleeson, C. Kelso Remove the 4 bench players and probably 1 emergency and we still look better than last week. I guess the issues is simple: can they perform? We still look pretty dubious in the ruck, and the key defence spot is not looking that strong. Last time Lisle was the difference between the teams. We have to find someone to take him out of the game..Getting a bit more from guys like Armfield would be good too, as we had a number of Carlton listed players who were pretty ordinary last week (and for some time before that).I'd still like to see Jesse Glass-McCasker have a go in the forward line, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. Since the game against the Aussie U18's he hasn't had a go in the forward line: it appears that the MC is not interested in trying him there.Maybe his papers are already stamped? But he has not been doing enough as a key defender and doesn't appear to have developed much. A disappointment, but...
Re: VFL Rd 12: Northern Blues vs Port Melbourne Reply #7 – July 08, 2017, 02:45:59 pm Nothing to get excited about so far, Armfield probably our best and Korchek is a much better ruckman than Gorringe, Smedts and Boekhorst ok although Boekhorst has butchered it a bit.
Re: VFL Rd 12: Northern Blues vs Port Melbourne Reply #8 – July 08, 2017, 03:30:09 pm Nobody standing out in this game, hard to imagine McKay got that emergency listing. Must have been a bit of a bit of a spirit lifter for the kid.Byrne looks a class above again, but we don't have the skills on the park to get him involved. We look small and meek, seeing DVR intimidate our kids is not all that encouraging! Jaksch is done I reckon, not much more to say!Smedts thinks in slow motion then crucifies team-mates, seems to have an innate ability to use all the available time then make the exact wrong decision. For an experienced AFL player, very, very poor! He's a taller, slower version of Tutt! Last Edit: July 08, 2017, 04:03:40 pm by LP
Re: VFL Rd 12: Northern Blues vs Port Melbourne Reply #10 – July 08, 2017, 04:51:19 pm McKay looks devoid of confidence. When he is in a good position they kick it over his head and when it is kicked to him he drops it. Pickett showed glimpses but not much else.

He's a taller, slower version of Tutt!McKay got a gig in the emergency list as we need a couple different 'types' to choose from should we get a late injury. Bolton said this himself. No point having 3 mids on the emergencies list and you lose a ruckman pre-game.If it wasn't McKay as the 'tall' on the EMG list, who would it have been? We don't have too many left that are not playing or are injured.re Smedts....He was showing some good signs early. Made some very good runs and spotted up a teammate perfectly on a couple of occasions. Looked the goods in spurts.Boekhorst too.But...the cupboard is pretty bare.
