Ladies Lounge / Re: Women's League
I am not sure about the merits of womens football. It appears to be a growing sport and as more play the standard should improve.

I don't think it will be a stand alone crowd or TV success however I think they could be great curtain raisers or played in conjunction with the mens game.

Having said that I would rather be involved from the beginning and its a failure, than not be involved and its a success!

The league wont let it fail!

Carlton is in reset mode where every aspect of the club is being reviewed and improved where possible.
As a result murphy's captaincy is being looked at, I'm sure this is just a bit of a ploy and he will continue in that capacity and we will read "after careful consideration it has been determined that mark murphy is indeed the best man to lead the cfc during this exciting time in its history,  mark enjoys the full support of all sections of the club!"

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 17 Carlton vs Hawthorn-Post Match
Obviously a very disappointing result, we did not expect to win and the team was probably the worst we have fielded all year

BUT

Barker has had success in backing the players and getting them to go for it, take the game on and run.
Now I think he thinks he can coach.

What is it with numbers behind the ball.

We had the whole team in their half for most of the night, it did not work it didn't work for Malthouse it doesn't work for us, we don't have anyone who can play the role of the loose, +1 or whatever it is.

The other thing I don't get is why is Yarram constantly isolated in the back pocket playing a negating man on man role?

It is not his go, he is the only person we have who can run and carry and they are trying to turm him into a Johnny O'Connell for the older folk or a Wayne Harmes.

We should have gone out and played man on man Football, beat your opponent, be accountable, attack if you can, not this tempo hold on to it crap that the supposed thinkers of the game talk about.

Barker said we were going to learn from the best and whilst we know the team aren't good enough I think we found out that going forward, nether is he.........................sadly I had some hope.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 15 Post Game Thread - Blues v Tigers
I agree Yarram has his limitations, however as basically the only outside runner we have I am constantly amazed to see him isolated in the back pocket minding someone bigger and stronger, this is clearly not his go and he gets frustrated.
I can only surmise that they are trying to teach him a lesson on how to be a better backman or our defensive coach is being constantly outcoached.
He should never have been on Chapman nor minding Cotchin, he should have been up the ground providing run through the middle and passing to leading forwards.
I am slightly concerned that Barker now thinks he is a chance to get the gig and is thinking more about that than his original philosophy. We were back to numbers behind the ball bomb it long into the forward line and watch it rebound out.
Dropping Rowe, as it turned out was a massive mistake and whilst no-one could forsee the injury to Jamison it left us with few big forward or defence options.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Need to Stick fat.
The pres blinked in RD two and admitted we were rebuilding!
The press were all over it with talk of who's up for trade and what they are worth.
It comes out over the weekend that the "powers" spoke with Gibbs and Murphy to tell them they were "required".
So everyone else on the list KNOWS they are tradeable, If I was Henderson, Yarram, Casboult or any of the other 40 odd I would be telling my manager to get the best deal for me before Carlton tries to do the best deal for them, as the club does not rate them going forward.

This is a complete fiasco from the remnants of an appalling board that has presided over this club for nearly 20 years (pratts time excluded)

I've said it before and I say it again, time for a coup!!!!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Back to Forward
I think they have tried that in principal, except the backline keeps forgetting to go forward.

The forward line is certainly very comfortable in the back half and seem to spend most of their time there.

Maybe thats why we can't score.........there is noone in the forwardline, I wonder if ther coaches have noticed!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: What We Learnt From Round 1 - The Other AFL Matches
Is it only me or was it like watching a replay of several of last years games.

: We fly out of the blocks, miss several easy shots, and go in 2-3 goals up instead of 4-6.

:opposition starts running, we throw numbers behind the ball and dont score.

:through weight of numbers the dam wall breaks and we get flogged

;Last quarter go man-on-man, make a comeback and we are a bit stiff.

MM said you set your game plan to the players you have, if that is true who is capable of playing the Josh Gibson, Nick Maxwell role at Carlton of being the Third,/loose/plus one or whatever you want to call them, we do not have one, but he keeps having one who has a sore neck from watching the ball go over his head!

The whole football world , with the exception of MM, now understands that you have to kick a winning score.

Every successful team has 2,3, or 4 runners, we played one, Yarram (simpson doesn't run much anymore) who is very good but shut him down and we have no-one.

What happened to the defensive half forward role, that seems to have gone, Houli had a field day.

The supposed problem for Jones at the doggies was he is not a key target player but at the blues with Casboult and Henderson around him he would be OK, SO we dont play Levi, we put Jones at CHF and he is exactly the same flop he was at the doggies.

We have been badly beaten and whilst MM made excuses, "we new Jacksh wasnt big enough (then why play him), we only expected smith to play a 1/4 (thats why they are called subs in case of injury), we have lost 3 out of 4 of our major goal kickers of the past 4 years" ( we for various reasons let them all go) then decided that the greatest concern was HIS contract, not for him of course, but for the players and the other coaches.

Please spare me, MM would be very luck to get another coaching gig when he is finished at Carlton and whilst I would not neccessarily know, I cannot think of one of the assistants who gets enough praise that other clubs would be targeting them.

Armfield has faults, but he is quick and has a go, they recruited Tutt for his speed play him, dont think about Ellard (I bet they do), Toohey has had no impact on a game now for over a year, drop him or put him in a spot to make a difference, no numbers behind the ball beat your opponent.

We have a good record in Perth and West Coast aren't much, we can win!

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Radio Memories
That exact thing happened to me.
Carlton were playing Essendon I think, I was in euroa at a function, the only station covering it was the greater on relay through some local station.
It was the game when Kernahan kicked the goal after the siren.
"kernahan has the ball, sirem has gone, this is to win the game, he lines up,walks in, Theyve Jumped at Kempsey!"
Numerous people staring at this poor fellow sitting in his car banging the steering wheel and swearing at the radio. that was the one he kicked and we won.
Allan Lappan "its lap lap, saying bye bye, for now now.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2015 - Is This It For Matthew Watson ??

Agree with nearly all however, he has absolutely no desperation in his game, he has no real attack on the ball.

Its like when he was a kid because he was bigger and stronger than most he could get away with doing little work and be successful, and has carried this through to AFL level which is clearly not good enough.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 6 MCG Home Games 2015
This year we played Port, WCE, Saints, North, GWS, and Cats at Ethiad as home games.
Ethiad holds 40 odd thousand, with the exception of Geelong and the Saints maybe none of those games are going to draw much more than 40,000. Whilst the romance of more games at the MCG is good, playing the interstate and less well supported teams at Ethiad makes sense, if the deal is right.!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 19: Carlton vs Freo: Post Match Pain Again
The mark that Levi dropped was terrible which led to Woods unfortunat kick I do not blame him.

Can anyone tell me why Ellard gets a game other thasn the photo's, the video, the recording and U Tube clips of Mick, a sheep and an underage midget playing nude twister that he obviously has.

He is short, slow, can't mark over his head and from last night can't kick. He lays a few tackles, that is only because he isn't first to the ball. He has been subbed a couple of times but they keep picking him, missing goals (lucky to kick a point from) 30 metres out is inexcusable and then later to try and dribble it from the outside of his boot for I think out of bounds is a disgrace.

Poor Poor football kept teh Freos in the game>

I cannot be convinced that Armfield is not a better bet, tries to break lines can kick goals and could have gone down on to Ballantyne.

I support Mick but not on this one

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: R8 - WORST on ground vs Saints
I voted for Ellard, and I don't understand why he keeps getting a game. He is short and slow. He is meant to be a defensive forward who can kick goals however his opponent constantly runs off him and creates a loose link man which puts enormous pressure on the backs. I acknowledge he is brave, a good kick for goal and good for his size overhead however I would have Armfield all day before him.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: R3 - WORST on ground vs Bombers
garlett, 4 posessions one tackle, Simon White, one posession in 2.5 quarters, was second to his man all night.
Gibbs, cheap posessions no influence and a bomber ran away from him in the last quarter.

Was there last night and if effort equates to $ then Daisy is worth twice Gibbs
