Title: 2017 Rd 1 Ingame Adrenaline: Carlton vs Richmond
Post by: crashlander on March 21, 2017, 08:45:52 pm
I'll be at Thursday night's game, and I hope to see as much of the VFL as I can.
Therefore I thought I would set this up for the occasion.

Thursday at 1920 at the MCG!

crapting ourselves in defence. March bank and plowman very por early.

On the positive some very nice movement forward of centre and sps looks fantastic

Wish we could stop them kicking goals. How often do they go forward to lots of space in their F50. Our's is always clogged up.

They are too fast and have too much space. Their delivery into the forward line is way better than ours.

Tiggies getting goals over the back to easy, bit worried about Charlie. Seems to be spectating a lot and not impacting the contests at all, SPS looks the goods, 3 goals at qtr time, I can live with that.

Both sides playing an open game, yes we were out scored, but we did add 4 for the qtr , a positive there

Was going to ask if he was on the ground then I saw him mark it. His spot is safe while we have no other ruckman.

We have too much height in defence. No run out of there.

When Martin has the ball our blokes just stop and stare at him...its like watching Barry Hall when we played against him....next player who refuses to tackle Martin or contest with him I would drag off the ground....

Title: Re: 2017 Rd 1 Ingame Adrenaline: Carlton vs Richmond
Post by: laj on March 23, 2017, 08:36:12 pm
We need one less tall in defence at least. If we're going to be more offensive this year then we need more run. That way we can carry it through the guts quickly into our forward 50. Right now we still get stuck out on the boundary.

To true Laj , if you go tall in defence you need to mark the ball more , no point bring the ball to ground if no clean up agents there

2 birds, 1 stone.

Drop Casboult and let Rowe move into forward/ruck duties.

Rowe seems to like to punch the ball, let him do that from ruck contests.

For years we have never found the balance between attack and defence.

We have quite a few good players individually but we can't structure up and use the ball as a team.

Same old story really, just too many B graders.
We need to cut our losses with some of these blokes, if we're going to finish bottom couple anyway we might as well see if some kids want to take their chance.

Marchbank looks the goods... Daisy + Kreuzer looking good too.

Casboult...... not up to it time to go.

Dustin Martin..... get on him for the brownlow. but then again other opposition teams might actually man him up and tackle him.

I don't think we can this now.. but lets stop the bleeding....... please.

Our debutants don't look overwhelmed. Hope they feel settled now and have a good crack 2nd half.
Sam Rowe, despite the stats is so solid. Such influence without getting hold of it. Daisy is going OK, as is Smedts. Marchbank will be a star.
Really pleasing to see Gibbs crack in and take control on occasion.
Simmo gave away a really dumb 50....

Go young Blues.

has anyone been given a job on Martin?!!

Seriously, curb him and we can still win....

our mids just aren't working hard enough. defence getting pummelled - not their fault.

can't give up 80 points in a half - against a so so side and expect to win....

how many cheap goals given away from poor play - 8?

Levi's having a dirty night. Normally goes alright in the ruck where he often nails a few grabs. Tonight absolute SFA. He can't SFA too often otherwise he won't be playing. Problem is when goes leaves defence he struggles alot too. He'll kick straight at least though

Apparently young Harry had a good one with the NB's tonight with 4 goals. He's probably happy playing in the NB's though as who would ever volunteer to be a key forward at Carlton...lol!!! Have to be an absolute gun to do any good at all.

Our blokes won tackle Martin..they wont go near him when he has the ball, he has so much time and its always trouble when he gets the footy...
Defense is trying but both Simpson and Docherty are kick chasing rather than defending...their small forwards are all over us...Riewoldt being well held...

Gibbs is one lazy pr1ck.

Watched him ball watch 10 meters behind Martin on the 50. Obviously Martin gets the ball he turns around and slots a long goal.

Man bun calmly jogs off to the bench for a well earned rest  with his bun swinging from side to side.

The guy doesn't give a toss. Hope he f***s off to Adelaide at years end.

Forwards were better. Weitering doing well, Cas better that qtr after a stinking first half, Krezuer playing great, SOJ started the qtr off well. We got the ball into the F50 much easier.

Can't agree more.  Weak as p!ss...  Our mids have looked slow, weak and undersized all night versus this mob, and I'm afraid to say it, scared around Martin.  Curnow has played close to his worst ever game for the CFC tonight, utterly stank tonight.

Feeling I get is that none of our senior players are "in form" as evidence by our JLT series  - we haven't hit the season cherry ripe.

if we had made an effort to stop MaRtin we would have won tonight.

poor coaching br Bolton.

We couldn't stop one of the best players in the game.....and its the coaches fault.

Perhaps we don't have the players to do so?

Surely someone can grab the arm on a fend off and rip it out of his shoulder socket.

Fck. How do about 6 Richmond players sit around near goals like that.

Why couldn't people tackle Kouta and Judd?
Same reason.

Like him or (most likely) hate him, Martin is a gun player.

Just stand next to him and try to block his run at the screwing pill... but out mids are too weak to do even the basics.

We'll be quicker when we give Curnow Snr and Thomas both the ar$e.

Charlie C isn't impressing either.  Just isn't doing enough... of anything.

If E Curnow or White can't tag then I'm not really sure why we persist. One of them had to hold up against Martin.

White, Rowe, Armfield, Thomas, E Curnow are all limited, so we've done well to get this close.

Charlie looked slow, like he isnt fully fit or lacking some condition...Ed tries hard but the good taggers work both ways and having no left foot makes him less effective.

And I still don't like having weeters up forward. It's only the first game, and he looks like he's played up to the bye.

The kids look ok, but our senior players stink... Docherty, Cripps, Gibbs, Curnow, Murphy, Casboult et al.  Awful.

Ha.  You named 3 of our best tonight.

the transition of

e curnow, armfeild, thomas, white and maybe 1 or 2 more , out and new in will be painful and long.

The younger curnow worries me. one dimensional and slow

crap performance, but 19yo Jacob Weitering... Injured in the opening moments but plays first full game up forward against the best defender in the comp and managers 7 marks and 3 goals. Young champ will only get better and deserves to stay up forward.
