I thought after the weekend it was a good time to resurrect this thread.

Enjoy. ;D

I'm glad this is still allowed to be a part of the game, I love it !!!!
And the 50m penalty Robbo got when Ablett pushed him back was the icing on the cake !!! >:D ;D
So lucky the bump didn't slip up to his chin and break his jaw though. He would've been crucified by the media and opposition fans for life! It was as about as good and as legit as bumps get nowadays.
It was as about as good and as legit as bumps get nowadays.
Summed it up perfectly Carrots. It was centimetre perfect and I'm sure Gazza hasn't been cleaned up like that too many times in his career.
Great team play... cut a path and made space for the Great Man to get a possession.
He knocked him over again a little later. 8)

Thanks krudds
That above green stubble shot suits him just fine. Makes him look part Alien because the way he plays, he definitely isn't human. ;)

Yes, I enjoyed!

Have to admit I did enjoy the minute or so late in the game when Judd and Ablett found themselves playing against each other. There wasn't any fireworks but it was just a good image to see two greats shoulder to shoulder.
Nice work Robbo!
From the title of this thread, I thought it was a good analogy of when you run around exhausting yourself, but not actually getting anything done
2014 - R12 vs Geelong - George Horlin Smith
He'll be watching his back after that hit

Both Hodge and I think it was Suckling got the treatment this week.

Most of Robbo's victims stay hit but Hodge is one tough Hombre and Robbo didnt look to flash either after the pair contacted each other......

Not only that, as Robbo was licking his wounds on the way to the next contest, Hodgey came up to him with a wide smile and started giving him a bit of lip service.
Something akin to this...
Betcha Robbo hasn't seen many like that before.
It's probably not a big deal in the scheme of things but in an advertisement for the "Sunday footy show" there's a picture of Robbo pushing Lappin in the Geelong game above the heading
"Player shoves 'Referee' in anger."
Obviously written by someone with NFI
I'd be Robboing the MSN site if I was Robbo.
What's a referee? ;)

Not a runner >:(
In keeping with Shadesy's terrific early post match pre-game summary from Perth, sorry but I'm going early on this one!

You just know it's going to happen!
Which begs the question, should a bloke that's not a leader be making leadership decisions at the club?
If you think one person ousted Robbo I reckon you might just have lost it.
Robbo is gone because of Robbo.
Not anyone else's reaction.
Leadership group wanted him gone. Murphy is the captain. He publicly endorsed the decision. How hard is it to comprehend? It seems your selective memory is in full swing again.
Irrespective of the reasons, I doubt Robbo is a deep thinker!
It might be a race to see who gets in first, Robbo or Bell!

Sure, Im with you that the leadership group endorsed the decision, and whether or not private or public, the reason he is gone, is because of the actions or inaction he took on that fateful night out.
Robinson is 100% responsible for WHY he is not there.
Responsibility lies with Robinson.
Murphy and the leadership group will own the decision. It was something that they chose to do in order to achieve a specific team goal that we would not be privy to. A difficult decision I might add and one I don't necessarily agree with either, but my opinion isnt important here, and neither is that of any of our fans, given our club ticked it off, the team ticked it off, and they are the ones who have all the information required to make a tough call.
We need to accept it and move on. Hell, its possible that members of our playing group are likewise split about this decision, and hence why we see so much disunity at the club, and even so, I still blame Robinson for his actions, and not the decision to move him on. We talk about holding people accountable for their actions, but we are not the first team to decide about removing certain charachters from their team for the greater good, its just that it doesnt seem to have helped us a great deal at the moment, which is why its annoying.

Or who's first to understand the question!
@Thry
Refer to my original post, the question is, considering Marc Murphy isn't leadership material, should he be influencing decisions at the club?
Wo, wo, wo... Murph may not be Skipper material (though is growing into the role) but to suggest he is a poor leader is unfair and going too far.

One of these days the club will learn that we have appointed a person into a role, and that person will do the role to the best of their ability, and not allowing them to do it will simply result in setting people up to fail, rather than succeeding under their own steam or failing on the back of whatever poor decision they make.
We also prevent Murphy from learning from an error he may have made, and therefore stunt his developement as a leader.
Making mistakes in order to learn a lesson is okay. Repeatedly making the same mistakes and failing to learn your lesson is not.
Our club is guilty of this, and I fear is doomed to continue making mistakes until it learns that replacing people is not the only way to improve.
I think we should employ Dank and take the above approach ;)

Kruddler said we should learn off the better clubs..ok ...ie .Hawks replaced Mitchell with Hodge and went from good to great, I think Murphy should step down with some grace and we appoint a new captain and let Murphy concentrate on his football and get back to being an A grade player....its hasnt worked and no one will think anything less of Murphy if he abdicates the role.

No offense EB1, but the Dawks success was gifted by the AFL.
Outside of GWS no other club in AFL history has had such a run of charitable assistance from the AFL. When Fitzroy hit the skids the AFL gave them the bum rush, the Demons got nada, Sth Melbourne had to become Sydney to scrape out a living. The Dawks got a stadium, it's surrounding suburbs and a whole state gifted to them!
Further, they gave the Dawks priority picks in the same seasons we were banned form the draft, effectively they got an extra 2 or 3 equivalent first round picks in that period!
We won't ever get that sort of assistance, and nobody should! The Dawks are the monster the AFL created, the next one is GWS!

Our problem is, that if we had Mitchell, he would be head and shoulders a better leader than Murphy.
Our next issue is, that there may very well be daylight between Murphy and our next best option.
I have no qualms with replacing Murphy, but sometimes a Captain has to create a legacy, rather than simply get in, and do the job, and unfortunately our lack of developement of people has left us with few options aside from Murphy. Few that can get on the park and do a job week in and week out anyway.
If Dylan plays I hope he stays clear of Robbo!

Can't argue too much with that, no one younger than Murph stands out as captain material ATM.

He was growing into the role last year, it seems to have stopped IMO.

Hopefully Cripps is the one.
Seems like a good young lad, who took the initiative to learn off his own bat.
Im dissapointed that Gibbs hasnt asserted himself as a leader.

x2 Cripps...and watch out for Rookie Brad Walsh if he can make it through to the senior list as he was captain of the WA U18 team
but both are long term options and there isnt much in the short term.
Kruezer if he could ever get fit and stay on the park might be one.....
The other option s I have discussed before is the Nick Maxwell/Tom Harley scenario where a average player but respected team man in Simon White
gets given the job....

This is a great post.
Crippa is the obvious option,
I don't mind the idea of White. Works his %!%! off and we have missed him.
Heard a good deal about Fields and it does sound like he is going pretty well in the 2's??
So apparently Rory Sloane got a facial fracture today against the lions, yup....robbo got him.
Went looking for this thread and a Rory Sloane photo to go with it....found this and thought it would be apt. ;)

So now that MM has gone can we get back Robbo ala Justin Murphy style? :o

Won't happen and as much as I loved the bloke when he was playing for us, until he does comes back this thread should be closed.
Would love Robbo and Garlett back in the Navy Blue.
We are crying out for a small forward. Imagine we had have kept Betts and not picked up Daisy.
Imagine if we kept Fevola, Kennedy and Jacobs.
Would love to see Robbo back in Blue. Make it happen Blues. :D
Imagine if we'd kept Simon Minton-Connell. ;D
... or Steve DaRui...
Man when Da Rui hit them they stayed hit. I remember him ironing out Greg Healy at Princess park in his 50th game. Was brilliant!
I have two words for you.............Darren Tarczon
Guy McKenna must have nightmares about Carlton >:D
That game was a ripper as i think it was the same game Minton-Connell kicked the winner against WC and broker their 13 game streak in 1991.
I miss Princes Park
Yea, what a hit.... Simply awesome game of footy that one.

Good call LP.
Murphy is the softest target in the AFL, it's embarrassing that he's our captain and he can't stand up for himself.

;D
Been our best performed player for two months in a side
Roundly congratulated by people who know a bit .
MBB you've struggled to get a call right all year and still haven't sunk a putt.
Hawkers looking good though champ! ;D

I'm happy with his performance I just don't think he should be captain. How inspiring is it for young lads seeing their captain get bashed around every week?

Don't know.
I reckon they'd just prefer we were not crap.
Murphy will be targeted every week regardless because he is , whether you like it or not, a leader and one of our best.
Who's going to be skipper ? Simpson? He's just about cooked.
Thank God MM got rid of that spud Robinson, imagine how bad we would be if he was still around!

I know huh? Would have lost by more with him in the side last night! Oh wait.....

Robbo always beat up on opposition who liked to play 'bruise free footy'.
Just so happens that we are the ones playing bruise free footy nowadays.
Robbo was like Betts in that they both feasted on the crap sides.
Thank God MM got rid of that spud Robinson, imagine how bad we would be if he was still around!
Don't remind me. MM didn't like Robbo so he was on a hiding to nothing and as soon as an excuse came along... well, the rest is history. There are those of us on this forum who, despite sometimes wayward disposal, valued and rated Robbos attack on the aggot and man, it was just great and lifted team mates from time to time.

i tend to agree with this...

Was in our best players in every final he played for us. The players that like the hard stuff tend to step up in the finals. Brad Sewell was the same.

One of the things I really loved about Robbo, when the going got tough he'd get more desperate - just about the opposite of some of our present crop. Yes, the hypocrisy of MM re Robbo is breath-taking... he likes blokes who stand up under pressure and he made excuses for 'bad boys' at Rottingwood and then managed them into good contributors. How long is Robbo's contract at BrisVegas? ;)
Robbo was sacked for lying to the club and the people who did the sacking were higher up than Mick.

Bang on the money, not perfect but a footballer , he was part of a team, not all are the pretty outside runners , you need someone to stand up for your mates, as we have seen lately they are few and far between in our current line up. Remember the days when The Duke was around, players stood a bit taller. Seems we are more about image at times , and forget it's still football.
Robbo was sacked for lying to the club and the people who did the sacking were higher up than Mick.
thats the reason from my understanding..
if true, the club had no choice
Has any player left Carlton AND won a flag in the last 10 years? I can't think of any. As much as we hate that we lost Robbo, Garlett, Betts, Sauce, Grigg, etc., none of them have won, or are likely to snag a flag. All of them go missing against the best teams like the Hawks, Swans and Freo.
I've left off Kennedy because he was traded for Judd and really didn't want to leave. I actually hope he grabs a premiership before he finishes.
Premiership sides never rated our players. That is why they have gone to the clubs they are at. Geelong might be the first hope of a flag with Henderson in their side. If the Eagles don't get one with Kennedy.
It's no good complaining about a list without depth when we dump anyone who is half-capable of scoring 165 ranking points in the single game because we don't like them!
Carlton is not living in the real world.
Nasty people win flags! Hodge, Lewis, Franklin, Johnson, Kelly, Enright, Hunt, etc., etc, are outright mongrels that their clubs managed to success!
Carlton is way too focussed at having a nice bunch of blokes at the next team barbecue. Some dud in our Admin thinks if we have a happy team anything is possible, but in reality it's the blokes who walk the line that get you across it!

Amen to that. Let's be the most hated and feared club once again! Draft some mongrels, please.

Noice, is this the first time he has Robbo'd a whole season for a team?
I think we should we add Mihocek for an, "In the spirit of Robbo'd"! ;D
