Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Congratulation Sam Walsh - B+F winner 2021
Its all a clear indication of how poor we've been and how few of our highly paid (& arguably talented) players fired a short in 2021. If Plowman & E Curnow are in our top 10 next year I'd say we're in deep trouble.

I'm hoping that we see a good representation of Williams, McGovern, Martin, TDK, Dow, Cerra, Hewett, C Curnow, Cunningham, Honey, Kemp etc in the top 10 next season. Hoping and praying.

That's the point. We had so many injuries this year there was zero chance of success. Jack Martin was too 10 in the 2020 B&F but never fired a shot this year. He's one I hope has a brilliant preseason.

Yes, all these coaches being happy enough with his performances that they can’t help themselves but pick him each week, if only they’d be more open to your advice…
By the way, I don’t know if any other team would give him a game, as he plays for us, but he did play 20 games for GWS, but they’re fools as well…

He is slow, a poor kick and a poor decision maker. He wouldn't get a game at GC right now let alone GWS.

Deservedly so !
And the sackings will continue until Plowman doesn’t get a vote…!

It's more a mark of how far we've fallen. Would Plowman get a list spot at any other club right now? Not in a million years.

Yet he's not just getting a game but getting pats on the back from our coaches despite the numerous obvious deficiencies in his game and never dropped no matter how poorly he performs. Think back to the Dean, Sexton, SOS, McKay, Christou, etc. or the Bruce Doull / Geoff Southby days.... our standards are woeful by comparison.

Intercepting in the back half is more important now than it ever was back in those days so having poor decision makers / turnoverers down there is a problem I'm hoping the new coaching staff come with a level of intolerance for. I've had enough of hearing Carlton supporters making excuses and accepting mediocrity.

If you already have Cripps, Walsh, Cerra and perhaps even Hewett in the grunt midfield mix rotations, you need complimentary pace in there. Starting with too many slows in the mid at once dooms you to losing momentum. So we need to find a way to keep some pace in their along side players like Cripps and Walsh.

Kennedy and Ed might be better as rotations with Cripps and Walsh, not in rotations with the running types that surround them.

How you then do that, off the bench or out of the FP or BP is up to the coaches to manage, but at least commit to being competitive or holding ground in all rotations so the momentum doesn't swing violently.

While I was all for Teague's game style, one of my big criticisms of his setup last year was that too often we ended up with all slows or all skinnies in the midfield. It can't happen, it makes it too easy for opponents to counter our tactics.

Some examples, Nic Nat or Blicavs ruck against De Koning, both are heavier and stronger than De Koning. We have Cripps, Walsh and Ed at ground level around De Koning. Nic Nat or Blicavs can win the ruck and still beat Cripps, Walsh and Ed to the footy over 10m!

The midfield will be rotated no doubt. But we have a LOT of slow midfielders. They will all need to be given time in there. I just hope Stocker is given plenty of time in the midfield.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: A message from SOS
^^

Its not solely about Plow.  SOS has been ultra negative about Carlton since he copped it in the neck, and actively denigrates anything Carlton associated.

He's been breathing fire ever since he was laid off, and I would have thought that Lo Giudice out, and Liddle gone would have been the majority of his detractors at the place off line.

A statement based on what exactly? He'll say 20 good things about Carlton and 1 slight negative - which is the bit the "journos" choose to put in a headline the next day?

Re. Samo:
He said many good things about him he's a good user of the ball, good player, etc. but been played out of position. but asked a loaded question about his preparation. What is the headline?
'I wouldn't say he's elite in terms of his preparation': SOS on SPS

If all you heard from SOS was via the headlines that are written you could form your view. But it's just not reality.

So SOS states the blindingly obvious that Plowman has room to improve and the pro-Plowman crew who can't hear a bad word said about the guy (who most impartial observers would rate as in the running for the worst player in the AFL) swing in to batter SOS and relate it to JSOS somehow?

Good to know.

Our mental application across the board is terrible. And I believe it is rooted in certain individuals who aren't pushed out when they demonstrate that mental fragility. If you can't handle the slightest bit of pressure - and let's be honest Plowman is a good example of one who definitely can't - why pursue it any longer. How are they going to stand up in a GF when the opposition gets a run on when they can't stand up in a regular season game against a bottom 2 team in front of no crowd?

I'm not interested in changing your opinion.

I'm interested in hearing why people like you who share that opinion do. What are the reasons.

So far all i've gathered is.....I like Cripps because Cripps is good.
Is that all there is?

To me Cripps seems a little like Ollie Wines when he couldn't get his body right for a few years there. Once he got off the waterskis he's gotten his body right and will be an excellent player for Port for many years yet. AA this year.

We want more players capable of AA / Brownlow level of performance - not less. You think he's over the hill or whatever - who cares? He's just signed a contract and is here for 5 years so I'm confused what the point of this is.

Not entirely correct.

Only Jeanne Pratt was on the board when Ratten was sacked and Malthouse appointed.  Sayers and Mathieson were appointed after those deeds were done and attended their first board meeting in October 2012.  All current board members, with the exception of Chris Townshend, were there when Bolton was sacked.  Townshend took his place on the board shortly before Teague was appointed.

It's probably drawing a long bow to say that the board sacked Barker; that was Liddle's work.

The board appoints and holds the reigns on Liddle so the line of responsibility for his decisions is 100% attributable to the board especially for hiring/firing key personnel.

So, hang-on, we all go on, on here, about the poor development of players, the questionable recruiting, the poor drafting (in some years), the lack of ability of the assitant coaches.  But, when the Board launches a review into these things, then they have gone early and sabotaged the season??

Yes, 100% agree that they should have kept it quiet (but, i guess this issue is, if it got out), but i dont agree that they should not have done it.

Review was needed, they did it.  Maybe they have failed in the communication

I think the review was an effort by the board to make it about someone other than themselves. That drove the timing and explains why they publicised it like they did. They aren't very bright and obsessed with protecting their own ar5es.
