Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Best 22 of 2024 - Part 3 - After Round 6
I find it's getting difficult to narrow it down to 22, because I think the best team probably comes from 24 or 25 players subject to the opposition. In that regard I find a best 22 a bit redundant, in much the same way handing out medals on GF day to the "22" is also redundant.

Fantasia might be ready for a spell in the 2's.
Hardly had any footy but ironically it was probably his best game, even so 6 disposals isn't going to cut it, he needs to find a way to get involved in more chains of play.

Of course it might be his job to otherwise get in the way of opponents or drag them away from the footy.

Just makes me feel a bit sorry for Fogarty, kid did nothing wrong and fractured his wrist, can't take a break.

Not sure Greene should get a week for that.

Hogan absolutely
Probably a week is about correct, if Toby had soften the impact by pushing Boyd in the chest then it wouldn't be a penalty. But the moment he turned his shoulder into Boyd's head it's only luck that stops it becoming a nasty incident.

btw., Shows just how poor the AFL was on the Maynard, who ended a players career and got away with it!

Hogan's a goose, deserves a week for a pissweak slap.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL 2024 Rd 4 Carlton vs Port Melbourne at Carlton
Moir's first goal was like he was a natural left footer, and the next goal, like he was a natural right footer. His defensive game is coming along well, also. Obviously a focus. Reckon we might see him a little sooner than some may expect.
Possible, but he's still pretty patchy over four quarters, a bit like Motlop has been.

I think while the team is strong there is absolutely no reason to rush guys in, I don't think we did Motlop or the team many favours playing him so early.

We need to be more like the Handbaggers, and have them cherry ripe for when they get the opportunity and having an impact rather than clinging to a spot by the bare minimums.

You'll notice in the Voss post match that even the media is still trying to beat up the two rucks bullsh1zen, it even felt like some were barracking for us to be run over to win points in the two rucks debate.

But Voss is the genuine article, he told the media when prompted there isn't such a thing as being "Locked In" to one configuration, at least we know the coach isn't letting the bullsh1zen burn his mindset. It always was and always will be horses for courses, it's the only sane option.

Run is very important.....but no player in the history of the game has ever run faster than the ball.
So fix up the precision and accuracy of the disposal ;)
We are getting clear possession from the centre, forcing turnovers across half back, and kicking it with nothing but our own perceived pressure straight to the opposition.

Horrible, horrible ball use into F50, our blokes BigH and Charlie are in getting in front on the lead and we sit it on their head.

From half back, it's like there is soap on the footy, even when we aren't under all that much relative pressure.

We can get the ball out of the ruck because we have 2 rucks.
We can't get the ball back once we turn the ball over because we have 2 rucks.
Our rucks aren't the problem here, in fact they are probably keeping us in the game.

The silly thing is this, you get it right a few sentences later as we are using it by foot like we are wearing clown boots.
We either.....
a) can't hit a leading target,
b) are not even trying to hit a leading target
c) or there is no leading target to kick to.
Then you make silly conclusion.
Either way, its a knock on for the extra ruck and consequently lack of run/pressure.
You're obsession with the two rucks makes you come across like a goose. We've run down opponents and forced turn overs almost at will, then we kick it back to them from clear space and all our blokes are caught out of position pressing forward.

If we have a tall problem up until now it's Young who has been a virtual non-attendance, but if Weiters is out he'll be needed critically to lift.

Young looks good against the Filth VFL types, like he's the obvious choice but it's pretty bruise free.

Moir and Binns are running machines, Moir surprises me how well he gets around the ground but not getting much footy.

Even in VFL we look a bit slow, but some of it is hesitation, smaller bodies not be committed.

Playing Pittonet left us a runner short vs a very pacy and youthful Crows team.....Berry really burnt us when he came on and I think there is merit in suggestring TDK probably operates better alone vs some opponents with part time help rather than combining with Pittonet. As I said I found it strange we went with two rucks vs a one ruck Adelaide.....vs the Bombers with Draper and Goldstein it makes sense but the Crows?
It all looked fine to me while Saad was still out there, we looked pretty good when Pitto came into the ruck and gave us some momentum, even if Cerra is in the loss of Saad isn't covered by Carroll, and Carroll in the Mid doesn't free us a running HBF. When Pitto came in we needed Cowans or Cincotta as a sub.

The last few games he has played, Kemp looks better when he can get up the ground but he was bogged in D50, is that our own doing of a opposition tactic?

Early on we used the ball horribly and it kept the Crows in the game.

Finally, let's not blame the MC for the poor ball use on the day, at times our uncontested possessions looked like an episode of the Keystone Cops.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 5 2024 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Adelaide
Crows had more one percenters and more uncontested possession which probably indicates they worked a bit harder for each other.
We won the clearances which probably shows you thats a tad overrated as a stat but no doubt their accuracy up forward kept them in the game and we frittered away a few chances.
Watched the replay today, Crows were clean with the footy, we looked liked we'd greased up before going out on the ground.

It made the difference, they were clean, they had time and space, we wasted a lot of effort and found ourselves under pressure all the time due to an attack of the fumbles.

Another thing, we disposed of the footy far too often to stationary targets, Crows moved as a group, relentless. Some of that may be because injuries are forcing us into using players outside of their normal roles.

Finally, Marvel doesn't suit us, the surface is too fast and it's maximises the pace deficiency between our on ball crew and the opposition. Play the Crows at The G and we probably win by 6 goals.

Fans like to gloss over that in the last few weeks we've also been using Kennedy alongside Cripps in the ruck, but that's a shock tactic, you get away with it once or twice but not more often, it ends once the opposition are alerted to it.

Of course it's only an option against select opponents and midfields.

The ruck had nothing to do with our loss yesterday, it's just fans clinging to something to blame, and a bit of opportunistic rock throwing.

Subjectively we seemed worse when TDK was on the ball, for reasons I've already outlined, and he is the more mobile option for those of you purely focussed on chains of play. But O'Brien is in his head now, and it's likely TDK will never truly better him, all we can do is find ways for TDK to break even or become useful in other areas when we oppose O'Brien. We have to make O'Brien chase TDK, at the moment O'Brien basically ignores TDK.
