Agree re Lewis Young....looking more comfortable every week and shaping as an excellent long term prospect. Made sweeter by the fact it was the draft pick from West Coast for SPS that got him and SPS not exactly setting the world on fire with a dozen or so cheap possessions each week and barely kicks the ball more than 20m every time he gets it.

Pity to lose Martin again and again. He rarely plays 4 quarters but offers something to us in terms of X-Factor that not many of our other mid-sized players can do. His ideal replacement is Silvagni so it's just a pity that JSOS has to ruck at the moment....not that it seems to be hindering his game as he just keeps on going.

But we're getting goals out of blokes like Cripps and Kennedy and Fisher on a regular basis, and Silvagni....so Martin out this week won't be a massive hole to fill IMO.

Like most, was hoping for something akin to an 80 point+ win, especially after that third quarter. The lead at 3/4 time should've been even more with a few missed shots and a couple of posters.

But they looked genuinely out of puff in that last quarter so maybe that style of game is something that is very hard to maintain over 4 quarters?

So many highlights:

1. The usual stuff from the usual suspects...Cripps, Cerra, Kennedy, Walsh, Docherty. And to think we have to squeeze Hewett back in there.
2. Another good game IMO from Fisher. His last 3 weeks have been much better and his disposal is a real weapon.
3. Charlie Curnow was magnificent and opposition coaches would be scratching their heads now about how best to match up on him. The fact that him and Harry are so much different in their games is probably what sets them apart from other key forward combinations.
4. Some solid defensive stuff again from Young this week, albeit not really A-Grade opposition.
5. Silvagni just keeps on going and is such a key player for us. Glad to see him hit the scoreboard.

Not so good?:

1. He salvaged his game late but thought Newman was pretty untidy again early.
2. O'Brien did some good things but was pretty weak in the contest on more than one occasion.
3. I was surprised that Carroll appeared to spend the whole first 1/4 on the bench? I had to check the teams to make sure he wasn't a late withdrawal. Followed it up with 13 possessions in the 2nd/3rd quarters and looks comfortable at this level.
4. Martin injured again. His soft tissue injuries over a long period of time are a worry and we just might never really get to see what he can produce consistently.

Fingers crossed Hewett gets up....probably him in for Stocker and that'd probably be it. I think Newnes and O'Brien did enough to hold their spots, along with Jack Carroll. Maybe Dow is medical sub again unless he replaced one of Fisher, Durdin or Owies....but I like with the Owies/Durdin combination brings up forward and Fisher has that speed that we don't have a whole lot of.

What's the next step then if they're going to basically ban the bump because of the potential to cause injury? Stop blokes from flying for a hanger and using the knee to get up...regularly see blokes cop a knee in the back or side of the head when someone leaps over them for a mark....time we stopped that too then. If the potential to cause injury is the benchmark, then why wasn't Darcy reported last week for jumping into Pittonet with the raised knee?

Mav....my question is that does it say anywhere that you can't bump? My understanding was that if you choose to bump and make head high contact, then that is a reportable offence..... I get that bit. But just delivering a fair hip and shoulder? Is that now outside the laws of the game? Or are you now only allowed to deliver a fair hip and shoulder bump that's not considered "high impact"?

I feel sorry for the players having to continually change their approach to the ball for the ever changing interpretations. A classic example was in the Geelong v Dockers game. All pre-season they were talking about players who drop the knee or shrug a tackle to force high contact will now be taken to have prior opportunity and will be penalised for holding the ball. Late in the game when scores were very close, Selwood did his usual thing...dropped the knees, shrugged the tackler's arm up to force high contact and the umpire awarded him a free kick. You could see the frustration on the Docker's faces....

Club is appealing the Young ban. I just watched it again and surely that can't be a week? Got him on the shoulder and winded him....that's all it was.

A few weeks back Mason Cox jumped in the air and kneed a guy fair in the back/kidneys while making no attempt to mark or spoil....and that didn't even warrant a week.

Late to the party as usual.

Didn't get to watch the game because of family commitments but watched the highlights....and loved the Young bump on Zurhaar....especially after some of the discussion on here during the week before the game about the likes of him. And was then staggered to see that Young gets a week? Brad Scott needs to come out this week and basically say that the hip and shoulder bump is basically outlawed from here on it even when there's no head high contact....because that's basically what this suspension is saying. If "care for the player" is what it's about then Larkey should get 3-4 weeks because that act (after the whistle too) has the potential to cause serious injury.

On a side not, was so rapt to see Jack Carroll get a debut and play so well....showed lots of compsure. I posted on here a few weeks back that he will surprise a few people this year. He's an automatic upgrade on Setterfield and should hold his spot this week even if Hewett comes back in. I think him and O'Brien could be a handy pair on the wings as they're different sorts of players but can both use the ball really well.

I'm not so much worried about the physical stuff that Ziebell and Zurhaar can dish out but the danger they present up forward as medium/marking types who can hit the scoreboard. Weitering took care of Taberner last week but blokes like Walters, Schultz and Switkowski kicked multiple goals and we didn't seem to have anyone capable of locking down on them. Stephenson is another one that will present a danger this week too.

Tend to agree with you EB....if neither McGovern or McDonald are available, Young has to play back....and we can't afford TDK to get monstered and knocked around again...or Silvagni in the ruck for that matter either. I'd be playing Mirkov and then resting TDK forward at times.

Our midfield should dominate but we did that against Freo too....5 of the leading possession getters were Carlton players. Without McKay they haven't got a lot of talls down back apart from Walker who's not that big anyway. Silvagni playing forward will make it even harder for them.

But Ziebell and Zurhaar forward worries me. Not sure we have players to match up too well on them as both of them are strong in the air. Parks may well get a reprieve for that reason alone.
