Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL 2024 Elimination Final 1 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Brisbane
https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-finals-2024-carlton-blues-player-ratings-vs-brisbane-lions-from-first-elimination-final-patrick-cripps-sam-docherty-highlights-stats-best-and-worst-players/news-story/466ffeed2df7cb0d0b307fcfb86edf3f

Worst players...
Williams - 2
Durdin - 2
Motlop - 3
O. Hollands - 3
Kennedy - 3
Fantasia - 4
Cowan - 4
Cerra - 4
Kemp - 4
Saad - 4

4 small forwards and cerra was who I had an issue with pre-game.

5 of our worst 10 players were from that group including the worst 2.

I also had an issue with tdk starting as sub and said he shouldve started.
Tdk - 6
Pittonet - 6
Walsh - 6
Newman - 6
Weitering - 6
Acres - 7
Cripps - 8
Hewett - 8

'Post game experts' they say.

The loss is hard enough to take.
But when you can highlight the issues before the game (and I'm not alone in this) it makes it all that harder to take.

Not sure who Jack Jovanovski is - but that read as though a Pies or Dons supporter wrote it.   Managed to stick the boots into EVERY player and seemed to enjoy it.  I know we were woeful, but FOX probably shouldnt have a work experieince kid, with a skinful, writing the player reviews

Just back from the game. Very disappointed.
[1] The Umpires were terrible. The things they missed and ignored when watching less than 15 m from the ball. They have no idea how long 15 m actually is. They simply weren't watching what happened or waiting for the other guy to make a decision. Most unprofessional performance I can remember, and I have a long memory.

the 15m thing was a joke, esp early.  aints were hitting 4m kicks out of d50....

the aints have a horrible knack of beating us when it matters, in recent time (ie 20-odd years)

i have visions of a quick kick out of a pack, from some bloke i have never heard of, at the 25min mark of the last quarter (all while crippa is being held by both arms and both legs, by steele), sending us on our way out of the finals

For weeks people have been observing that 'Charlie had turned lazy.' Charlie has been playing injured for weeks. Brad Lloyd said 'a number of weeks' which translated into 'Carlton speak' means at least  6! Walsh is definitely hampered, I'd suspect with a back problem, I can't use his best weapon.... pace and quick reaction therefore he gets caught a lot and is restricted in his delivery. To win premierships you need a consistent list, a high degree of talent, no injuries and a fair bit of luck. What chance did we have.

Yep - we lack run.   But, when you consider Walsh and Saad are definitely carrying injuries (either that or the mon-stars from spacejam have stolen their talent).  TDK and Cerra out.  Cottrell out.  you can excuse the lack of spark and run.  Add to that our coleman medalist isnt right.   Its no wonder we have fallen in a hole

We need to persist with youngsters that can stay on the park.
Play Moir and persist with him in Jack Martin\s role he has talent to burn
Give Billy Wilson a run in Saad's role
Give Jaxon Binns a run in Cottrell's role

People forget - Binns didnt get a kick in the 1 AFL match he played.  Moir has been (up unitl this week) strggling to get a kick in the 2s.  Wilson seems to have tapered off a bit.    We play these blokes, they dont get near it, and then the Footy Dept will get smashed for playing blokes that arent ready

Multiple time as the weekend Harry takes the footy from overhead to waist high more than once at the weekend, gets tunnelled or pummelled, and the pill gets dislodged usually by body contact with another player, the umpires call play on.

A player takes an arms up overhead mark that is punched clear before even a second ticks by, and the umpires pay the mark.

Harry holds the footy 2x longer and isn't rewarded, we need to be asking the questions now in advance of next season.

The AFL would never admit it, but the "free-kick-Curnow" uproar late last year has effected the way the umpires look at Charlie and H.  They are both still getting the odd free, but never 2 in a row, and really never 2 in a quarter.  the oppo know they can tunnel/chop/block them and only 10% of them will be called

Another game we ‘should’ comfortably win yet they seem to have leap frogged us which is a mystery in itself as we should be years ahead of this mob.

not sure they have gone past us.  they are playing well, but they are also playing breakneck, surge forward at all costs, attack-attack-attack footy.  not sure its a recipe for long term success

The Sports Desk / Re: Opals and Boomers at the Paris Olympics
It was a good effort to take it to extra time but we lack the depth of talent and rely too much on a 21 year old baby Boomer. I don’t think swapping a few players in the squad would change that.

The refs could have been a little kinder to us 🤔

Hard to beat Euro refs on a Euro court.......

Jokic the difference.  Turnovers (some the result of a 21 year old who played out of his mind, but still lost a bit of control) and controlling the defensive boards were the other big differences

really great effort against a seasoned class team

Some people will give Saad votes, but he had a Barry Crocker, I wouldn't guess but I suspect a significant percentage of Saad's own possessions were fixing his feck ups. He'll get credit for that and he'll get votes, but it burns opportunities, by the time he's fixed things the opposition are set and we can't score.

In recent weeks he has defended well, but his ball use has become Boweresque, the fans need to lay off the Whoosh as it's gone to his head.

Players 5m away from the nearest opponent(or anybody) dropping chest marks, sure they clean it up but the wasted seconds are terminal.

Blokes in unhindered clear space tripping over the footy, nobody in the vicinity, pick the fecking thing up before anything else!

was thinking, during the game, that saad doesnt get off the chain like he used to.  isnt taking on defenders and isnt trying to pierce the oppo with his kicks.   on the other side, yes, he was uncharacteristically sloppy

the number of fumbles and dropped easy marks, esp in defense, really stood out.  maybe just one of those nights.  it is catching once it starts.  it both cost goals to them,  as well as putting a halt to a scoring chain for us

Bad kicking is bad football.   We outplayed them in the first Q, but had nothing to show for it.  Outplayed them in the last Q, and capitalsied on it.   They outplayed us in Q2 and 3 and hit the scoreboard

It is still a big worry how easily we get openned up, when the oppo slingshot against us.  Just waltze thru the middle, with 3 or 4 players running, against 1 of ours.  Esp (as someone earlier said), when its someone dynamic like Degoey.  None of our mids have that explosion like him.    Although the Hawks lost, they did a lot of this v GWS, and we need to somehow stop it, or we could get scored against heavily.   commentators kept menitoning pies scoring 3 or 4 goals from kick ins.  this should NOT happen. they made us work so hard to get it out from a kick in, and we let them run it thru the corridor

We dont look dangerous entering f50 - even when we have a break, and a numbers advantage.  we just dont score easily, its always tough work.

other teams have worked out that centre clearances are our strenght, and they are stopping it (sometimes borderline illegally with cameron just grabbing pitto at each bounce, and crippa and walsh being faceguarded),  but it is working.  even allowing the pies to walk away with easy possessions, when the clearance didnt go our way

still like to lay some blame on umpiring (cox with 4 touches, 2 being bsht frees and one being that "mark"....   charlie didnt play well, but wasnt helped by being blocked and held off the ball, every time a chance to fly occurred.....)  and some lucky (for them) and unlucky (for us) bounces...........
